Flying Delta for the first time in years. If I check a bag, is the fee per leg or for the entire trip? I fly from home to ATL, change planes, then land at SFO.

I'm trying to decide if I should just go ahead and check, or do carryon.

So this Is something that always bugged me. I will sit there In the seat as people scrample to try to find a place for there luggage, secretly disguised as carry on:rotfl2:. Now at frist It makes sense, try to save a few bucks, but everyone Is doing It!. There Is not enough space to hold all that so called carry on. back pack size ok, but you will see a whole family come on and try to shove there luggage and what really is there carry on's up above. Then I will see the staff tell them they have to check it or leave it and they gett all bent out of shape?. Now on top of delaying take off so they can find space, now it turn into a match of whos going to budge the employee or custumer.
Now I understand the complaint the airlines are just trying to get a few more dollars at of you,but really you have already spent 100's of dollars for this ticket, why not save your self some headaches and check it ?. My long winded suggeston "check it ". Plus your not hjaveing to try to wrench your luggage out when getting off!.

but what then happens is they check it the same way that people check strollers. now, no fee and get your luggage as soon as you disembark the plane. guess those people arent so stupid after all.

If someone has the regulation amount of carry-on luggage (suitcase within size limits and personal item which will fit under the seat), then they have every right to carry this on the plane and not check it.

If you had ever had your luggage lost (recently my son had a bag go missing for more than a month on a holiday trip to Europe), or get tired of waiting forever at luggage carousels, then you will see why so many people prefer to carry on (not to mention those who have to pay to check baggage).

So when you goto check(at least In Seattle) they have a box that supose to determin if your bag is to big for carry on, if it is you check it in. Now there is no one or polcy(that i know of) that will denie your carry on borad, regardless of size. If it does fit, your takeing up more then say your share of room in the overhead bin. Now If they do check it in is that fare to everyone else thats trying to go by the rules?. I am not saying its fare, but it seems to cause a real problem when the staff is trying to get ready to take off. Now for the lost luggage I totatly there with you,i personaly(knock on wood) have never lost my luggage. I never go anywhere with out my golf clubs!, and just about have a nervous break down untill i see my clubs In our room. A, I always get incurance just because I value the contents of what I am bringing, but thats me i know the cost can add up, so not everyone can also i make a home made sign that I lamadate with my destnation info on top of my home info. I am sorry for anyone loseing personal belongings. Untill the system changes this is what we have to work with.

While airlines don't always enforce the carry-on rules, I have seen gate agents walking around checking luggage size quite often.

I have also witnessed about the last 15+ passengers be told (as they boarded) that there was no overhead room to take any more bags which meant the people had to go back to the front of the plane and check them.

I have even seen a gate agent make a passenger go back to the main check in desk and check a larger bag (which was a very ugly scene as unfortunately that passenger got back to the departure gate as they closed the airplane door and wouldn't let him on the plane and he watched the plane leave with his wife and child).

It seems more GAs are becoming more aggressive with enforcing carry-on luggage size.

People are trying to skirt the baggage fees by bringing oversize carry-ons onto the planes, taking up all the space and making boarding take forever as people try to stuff bags the size of small cars into the bins. And yes, the baggage fees are to blame.

Bonny

If you are on a full size plane, gate checked luggage goes to baggage claim on Delta. RJ's get returned at the door. They should charge a fee if it's oversize, it's only fair.

The gate agents are supposed to enforce the carry on baggage rules. If they don't and let passengers bring more than their allowed items on board or carry on oversized bags, then that is the airline's fault.
