Delta - changing flight times

I have a general travel question and thought this might be a good place to ask.

Let's say i have a trip booked for about 4 months from now. At the time i booked, there was a 55 minute layover for the connecting flight to Orlando. Leaving home at 11 AM and getting to Orlando about 7:30 PM. I am now not seeing that flight listed on the Delta Website and it looks like I now might have about a 3 hour layover and get in about 9:30 PM.

Does anyone know if Delta will let me change my flight to a more convenient one (if available) or will I have to pay the change fee? I am traveling alone with a 5 year old and would prefer to not have a long layover.

Thanks in advance!

Check your itinerary on Delta's site. If your flight has been changed, then Delta should work with you at no charge.

But keep mind that the schedule could change again before you leave.

We use Delta all the time and have never had a problem with them working out flight changes (at no charge) when the change was by them. We had non-stop flights and for some reason they changed us to a connection through Detroit (we are in CT). I checked the website and the same non-stop that we were on - both ways was still listed so I just called them and nicely explained the situation and that the change to a stop over was not our doing and they changed us back to the non-stop without a problem. Look to see what flight works best for you so you have that going into a conversation with them and just keep calm and you should be fine. They usually don't charge if its their change and the change is more than an hour.

If there are other reasonable alternatives flights with seats available, then they should be willing to allow you to change without a charge. As PPs have noted, however, you would be well served to look at your options before calling so you can know what you want to do if they are offerig you a change.

My only experience w/ Delta was that they were changing our flights a LOT. When they did change them, they did not notify us of such. I had to keep checking myself. Ultimately, we lost our direct flight, and they amicably changed our departure city at no add'tl cost, since the only reason we flew out of that city was for the direct flight.

We don't fly Delta any more, and pick either Southwest or Airtran now.

Agree with what others have said:

I find out about the change when I check on my itinerary (no notification by Delta)

... and ...

if I don't like the change, I phone them and they work with me to change to something satisfactory

Unfortunately, many airlines will make changes to your itinerary (especially if you book early), so you just need to go out there once in a while to check on things.

I have used Delta for trips to WDW last year and this year. Both were with miles. Both years, the choices I had with the lowest miles were not the greatest (afternoon to WDW, noon return). Both times there were schedule changes and I was then able to move to the flights I really wanted with no charge (morning to WDW, evening return). So you can use those schedule changes to your advantage!

Thanks for all of the advice everyone! i went into my reservation on the Delta website and it still shows the same as when I booked it. However, the flights i am supposedly on do not show up now on their website at all. Too weird! i guess i will just have to wait until a little closer to our travel time and see what I can do. I am just worried about the changes because I live somewhere where we dont have a lot of options to start with.

Thanks!

If it's still showing under itinerary, they are probably OK. My experience is if a flight changes, itinerary immediately changes.

Delta's website is fickle. Did you check under search by schedule? If you search by price and your flight is high, sometimes they don't show it. If it's soldout, they will not show it. You could always call.

I just had to change a flight on Delta 2 weeks ago. The official policy is they will allow you to change the flight with no change fee one time if the flight leaves or arrives over an hour before or after the originally scheduled time.

If I am flying in February and I get them to agree to a change (because they changed my original flight)and then they change the new flight am I out of luck or because they made ANOTHER change will I be able to?

I called Delta and was told my change was a "minor schedule change" therefore he couldn't change it without fees. There was an hour and five minutes difference:mad: I was hoping to get on a flight landing a little earlier!
