After reading this thread for a bit I decided to check my flights. Delta changed nonstop flight that would take me 3 hrs to get home to a flight that is connecting that will take almost 7 hrs. I am cancelling that flight for a refund and hope I can get a good price on airtran. I am glad I read on this site that people were not receiving e-mails about changing flights or I never would have checked.

You can also changed your flight on DL at no charge if they have any other flights you like.
I check my flights everyday because all the airlines make schedule changes, and I don't want to depend on them notifying me.

... as long as they have seats still available in your fare class.

Though if you've already canceled, you're out of luck: They won't reinstate a canceled reservation to let you take advantage of this benefit. Hopefully you get this note in time to go that way, if you wish.

I did check to see the other flights they had before I cancelled. They were both very early flights. We had the pm flight. Jet blue had the pm nonstop and it was $20 cheaper. This will be our first time using Jet Blue

I suspect you'll be very happy with JetBlue.

Have a great time.

Really? Northwest will allow you to switch to any flight that is not yet oversold. Or, at least they did last time I checked.

Then again, soon enough Northwest will be Delta... ;)

DL changed our flights and our new flight info had us with an EIGHT HOUR LAYOVER IN Cincinnati! :confused3 . So I looked up my options then called them back. We couldn't find anything better that day - nor the day prior - so we're going 2 days prior at a better departure time for the same price! Let's see - getting to WDW 2 days early... yep, I'll "take it!" :cool1: :cool1:

I'm a DL Medallion member (which means I fly a lot), and I check my flights routinely (1-2 x a week; more often the closer in the flight gets).

Good luck!

Delta changed our nonstop direct flight out of Dayton to a layover in Cincy. It was a much earlier flight and just would not work for us. I called and was able to change it to a direct flight out of a different airport. The CSR was wonderful to work with.

I have been checking my times on a daily basis now. So far the times have been tweaked by 5 mins, so nothing major. And our seats have remained the same.

If the airline instigated the change then this is not "reasonable".

However if we change "... fare class ..." to "... cabin class ..." then it would be reasonable.

What is up with Delta ??

They had 3 Non stop flights available for us... then they CANCELLED both of our flights... since then they have been changing the flight times. In fact they changed one of our flights for 3 weeks straight. Wake up on Sunday.. and find a new time.
We had never had an issure with them... but we sure have this time.

Delta management has said that there are going to have to make signficant changes in order to overcome the fuel costs. They want a 20% increase in fares and they are cutting capacity to push that through. In other words.... if your 3 flights weren't selling at a profit then they will cut you back to one or none. That they think will create more demand for what's left and allow them to raise rates. It's a win win for them.

I think other airlines are making the same changes but DL is more noticed on this board because of their numerous flights to MCO.

I also heard on a radio show in Atlanta that MCO is taking a lot of cuts because it is not a profitable market for DL due to a lot of "low cost" competetion.

Was figuring it was something like that.. odd thing is though... our flight was the fuller of the 3 .. Just holding on for a bumpy ride.

Well, technically, it is just a win for them, not a win-win. They don't care about demand or raising rates: They care only about profitability. And beyond that, going from a set of flights where they're losing money to one where they're breaking even isn't a win... it is just no longer a lose. They really need to get the set of flights into the realm of profitability before they can turn the lose into a win.

That's what they are working on..

IT's a win when they can RAISE the fares due to increased demand.

It's a win when they can cut costs due to fewer flights.

Hopefully those two wins will lead to profits!

We obviously don't see eye to eye on this, Carol.

Yep, it's not going to be pretty, flying with Delta for the forseeable future. I'm flying from Logan to MCO in early Sept with them..have a nonstop, midafternoon flight right now. It's already been changed from a 6:30 flight, back to a 3:30 flight. Can't wait to see how it all shakes out in the next few months. No way am I taking a huge layover. My dd is already missing a day of school and we only have 2 full days in the parks...so I am not going to be happy with some possible changes. But, I'll wait and see what happens before I panic.

Absolutely. I posted about this in the "Delta is evil for not honoring seating request" thread, but from DTW/FNT to MCO:

* SW went from two daily direct to one.
* AT went from five to three.
* NW eliminated it's 5PM departure, and might have cut one more.

Fares were published higher for my 2009 flights vs. 2008, and they've spent more time in higher fare buckets earlier than last year, spread across fewer flights. Things might settle if fuel costs come back down, but the sense I get is that airlines are cutting capacity along their least profitable routes (read: leisure destinations) as fast as labor contracts allow.
