Hi
We are stuck in the back of the plane on our Orlando to Mpls flight. Is the back of the plane loaded before the middle/front passengers?
Thanks for your help.

No .............. you'll have to look at your boarding pass to find out when you board. People who need extra time to board -> Premium class -> Sky class -> 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> and 4. It's been my experience flying out of Detroit to Orlando that they do not let parents and young children board with those passengers that need extra time to board since there are so many families with kids. I believe that this holds true coming back to Detroit from Orlando.

Delta boards by zones. You will need to look at your ticket and see which zone you are in.

If you haven't already, you might want to consider having someone in your traveling party get the Delta AmEx card. One free checked bag for everyone in the party, and an automatic boarding zone 2.

For a long time, and possibly still today, Delta used a Hopscotch boarding order. Namely, some in the back, then some in the front, then some in the middle, then more in the back etc.

For example zones (front) 5 3 6 4 2 (back)
(Zone 1 is elite who might sit anywhere)

This did mean that one could assure early boarding by selecting seats in the extreme rear if possible.

The puirpose was to speed things up by have two areas of concentrated stowing compared with just one using the straight back to front method. Like lighting a fireworks sparkler in the middle as well as at the end and it finished sooner. In practice, with back-front boarding the stowing progressed to the front faster than the seating so the frontmost passengers had to gate check their carryons.

I flew Delta on the 13th of this month, and they boarded by zones in order.

It's two free checked bags and Zone 1 boarding :)
Plus double miles on flights if you're a frequent flier. The zones most of the time board in order and they do most of the time ask for passengers needing assistance first and families boarding with small children after priority/first class boards.
