I've heard that if you use a certain credit card when booking with Delta, that they will waive their bag fees?? Anyone else heard this, and know what card it would be??

Delta skymiles gold American Express will waive the baggage fees. If you have already booked your flights, checking in with this card through the kiosk will waive the fees.

Have a great trip.:cool1:

Checking in online won't waive the fees? Isn't it tracked through your skymiles # also?

You are correct about linking the skymiles account to the ticket.

I was told today you HAVE to check-in at the counter in order to waive the baggage fees.

You normally receive a free companion certificate when you first get the card, and also a $99 companion certificate on each anniversary. Just remember not every flight or airport is available every day with the certificate but it isn't super limited. Today when booking to Disney, we discovered we couldn't use the companion on Sunday. But Monday was available & the ticket prices were actually considerably cheaper Monday also. Even after getting one more night at the hotel we were able to save $400+ for 3 people with cheaper fares & using the certificate. So you have to be a tiny bit flexible. They also don't have a minimum purchase amount to use the companion cert's (AA does - I think $300). So I booked $225 last year with a free 2nd person & $286 today with $99 2nd person.

It can be a good deal with the card - but there is an annual fee after 1st year.

I have the Gold AmEx. It is tied to your skymiles #, you don't need to check-in with the card as long as you skymiles # is on the reservation. You can check-in online or at the kiosk. When you check-in online, it will ask you how many bags in the dropdown and it will show 1 (free).

Debbie - does it also then show all the travel companions? We had to use two bookings as the first was with the companion certificate. However, they were both paid for with my credit card. However, of course only my skymiles number is on my name. My daughter & her b.f. don't have numbers.

I am just going by what she told me today when I booked, however, maybe it is because we had to do two reservations that were then linked?

As far as I know, the Skymiles member who has the Gold or Platinium Amex gets the fees waived for everyone in their party that is on the same record. A separate record for traveling companions does not get the fees waived.

Perhaps the DL agent put notes in your record that you had to book two records due to the companion certificate, and that is why they want you to check in at the counter only to get the fees waived for everyone.

My experience is that all flights booked together with the skymiles amex get the fees waived. If they are not all booked together with the amex, then they won't be free. We got around this when we were flying with my parents by checking some of their bags in our names. We had three tickets booked, so three free bags. We only checked two, so the third bag was one of my parents bags. Worked well.

My only experience was with 1 travel companion on the same reservation. We both got 1 free bag, checked in at the kiosk. On the way home, we checked in at the BW RAC desk, again we each got 1 free bag.

If you have separate reservations, it probably may not work at the kiosk, you may have to see an agent.

They did link them I know & I can bring his ressie up in my log-in (although it won't save it) so hopefully all will be fine. If not, I'll pay for his bags I guess as I am making him pay the rest of his way LOL! And when I booked it, we had to complete the companion reservation, then it prompted 'Do you want to add additional travelers'. So system knows we are all part of one.
