Well it seems that Delta is now charging 25.00 for use of their frequent flyer files within the continental US and are charging 50.00 for abroad frequent flyer miles.

Oh well, who didn't see this coming?

Actually, I didn't see this coming at all. You would think that the absolute last group of people that they would want to anger would be their high-mileage frequent flyers. I don't get it.

Per what I received from Delta, there is no charge within the US - just to Canada and Europe. Is the Delta text mis-leading as they really mean between each of the 50 states or is it as I read it as between the US and Canada?

Actual Delta Text:

Escalating fuel prices continue to impact our world economy, everyday life and the airline industry. Due to continued, unprecedented fuel costs, we will add the following fuel surcharge to Award Tickets originating from the U.S. and Canada, effective August 15, 2008:

$25 for Award Travel between the 50 states and Canada
$50 for Award Travel between the 50 states/Canada and all international destinations

I hate Delta. I have miles with them and can never use them. They never have any non stops avaialble for miles. SW is so easy to use and never have a problem with them. And no fees.

I have to admit that I was a little taken back when I received my e-mail about the new fees for FF miles but I just thought that maybe this will keep the airline viable.

Now I wonder which airline will be next or if all of them will start to follow suit.

I'm sorry you hate Delta and have not been unable to use your FF miles with them.

I have been flying Delta for years and knock on wood I have not had a problem using our FF miles.

I think that the 25 dollar charge is for flights within the states, not just between the states and canada.

In the past six months I have done the following wth my DL miles.

1. Roundtrip ATL to Paris business class skysaver with one month notice.
2. Roundtrip from ATL to Savannah GA with two weeks notice. Skysaver.
2. Just put TWO roundtrips to Paris on hold for next May. One from Knoxville and one from Atlanta. Both are skysaver.

Since SW can't fly me to Paris I find DL's miles more useful!

CarolA, you must be Platinum Medallion:worship:

I booked 4 First Class tickets from Hartford to Honolulu, returning Maui to Hartford with Skysaver awards. We leave in just 32 days!

I also anticipated with all the bad news about airline financials and rising oil prices that the FF award programs would change, either with increasing the number of miles needed for a "free" flight or with new charges to redeem miles. So, I booked 4 Skysavers from Hartford to Tampa for next April's School Vacation Week (and I don't have Medallion status anymore:sad1: ) Now if we could just get a room for that week at the Polynesian for less than $500/night!

I am, but ONE of the tickets I put on hold was on my mother's account. And she has no status.

Granted I am doing it 330 days in advance of our return.....

I made Silver this year and that may be the end.....I am changing jobs and at least one of my options will have a "no travel" future...
