Delta airlines

I am considering booking flights for 5 of us for way into early December through Northwest (under $900 total). The Northwest flights I am considering list "operated by Delta Airlines"...Should I go ahead and book now, since Northwest evidently will not strike? Or will these flights be affected by a Delta strike/problems? Not sure how this works...Anyone? :confused3 Thanks!

These are code-shares. If the "operated by" airline strikes, the flight will not operate. On the positive side, the issuing airline will work to fly you another way, though that could mean a different connection and/or alternate airports.

We fly to Vegas on 4/8 and come back 4/11 on Delta.

If they strike on 4/15, we are ok? They have UNTIL the 15th, correct? Any ideas on if they would likely wait to make a decision until then?

The "stike" date is 4/15. You are safe prior to then. DL is going to ask for an injunction under the "railroad act" which would require a 30 day waiting period, pushing any potential back to May, but who knows if they will get that.

I will say that on the FF board over on www.flyertalk.com there is practically no discussion of this strike. I think that means that lots of frequent flyers, like myself, figure this is not a major threat at this time. Also, the media here in Atlanta hasn't hit full panic stride yet!

CarolA-
Thanks again for repeatedly answering all our worry questions about Delta. It really helps to have some one "in the know" to at least help us to know what to do. I've been checking flyertalk.com too for the past two months and I haven't found any talk about Delta or NWA, which made me wonder also.

:):):):) THANKS!!!!! :):):):)

I'm not worried about Delta at the moment either. As Carol said, My parents are in Atlanta also and they both have over 500,000 miles on Delta (Frequent Flyers they both fly at least 3 times a month for their jobs often more). If there was something going on where Delta going under was a real worry I know I would have heard something from them. My dad just booked me on a flight for Delta to come down to visit. I trust the people that fly Delta a ton and live in Atlanta, since if Delta was likely to go under they would definately be talking about it.

I hope they are still around for our October trip! Expedia told me that have no plan for this situation.

I swear I must have been living under a rock when I booked our airfare last week through Delta for Sept 29-Oct 4... :confused3 I paid for the 4 seats last week and THEN I heard about the Chapter 11 filing last Sept... I rarely fly and was just looking for a non-stop flight that left during the time we wanted and with a good rate... it was Delta... booked it and then saw all these posts and now I'm having a major anxiety attack :sad2: :scared1: :sad1: :scared:   I didn't purchase insurance :( and now I'm worried......

I am glad to see someone else is in the same boat as me, as far as the anxiety part. We purchased our tickets in Nov, we had no idea of anything, but I also hadn't thought to look for anything. We went with Delta because of the rates, it would have cost us another 100.00/person with someone else. I am really hoping that everything works out. We got the insurance through Disney, but it doesn't cover strikes. When I called Disney they said worse case scenrio we should be able to get our money back if they strike, but there would be no way to know if we could get on another flight

Well, the insurance wouldn't have helped. Once an airline goes into chapter 11 the insurance no longer covers bankruptcy.

Now, keep in mind that USAir has been in Chapter 11 TWICE and they are still out there flying so that alone is NOt a major issue. If they don't strike you should be fine However, watch those flights. Figure they will make several time adjustments between now and Sept.

Sorry to say this but I am getting confused. I thought if they striked then Delta was done, how would they still be flying? I really hope all goes well, I just keep looking for encouraging news. I want to thank all of those on this board who keep answering my little questions.

We are using FF tickets to fly down on May 25. Will other airlines honor the FF tickets as well?

Actually, travel insurance will cover bankruptcy of an airline. The problem is that travel insurance companies stop offering travel insurance once an airline announces it is going into bankruptcy. So the trick is to get the insurance long before the airline is in trouble.

Add us to the list who are watching news from Delta closely. We are taking our married daughters, their spouses and 5 small grandchildren to WDW in late June. Bought Delta non-stop from CMH at the 330 day window as we wanted a non-stop flight. Flights are sold out and we'll be up a creek without a paddle if Delta stops flying. This is to be our grandkids first flight and first trip to WDW and I'm praying that all goes smoothly with the air transportation.

Hello neighbor... We are also flying out of CMH .. I bought are nonstop tickets on delta a couple weeks ago... we are flying in at 7am on Sat in Aug and back at 8:45 the following Sun... I just noticed the Airfare for our tickets went up... So glad I already bought them... Did you get a good price?
We paid $295 a ticket (little steep) but we paid for the convience of the nonstop and early arrival and late departure..
Also our TA told us if we really wanted a non stop we could fly out of Dayton on Trans air ... but the time wasnt that great... We live about 2 1/2 hours away... and the flight left around 7am UGH... We would have to leave about 2:30 am.. an Hour after the DH gets home from work.... Needless to says.. He wouldnt be having a Magic Day....

I booked a flight through the the Delta.com website, however my passes say "operated by Freedom Airlines, Inc." Does the possiblity of a strike still affect my flight?

Blondie does pose an interesting question, would a strike by Delta pilots affect flights operated by either Freedom Airlines or Chautaugua Airlines for Delta? Anyone know the answer to that question? Thanks.

As a former Teamster,

WE DID NOT CROSS A PICKET LINE!!!! ANY PICKET LINE!!!

If there is a picket line in front of the Delta Terminal, those pilots aren't going to cross the picket line, so yes it will affect those Airlines.
Good Luck,
Joe

Airline pilots are prohibited by law from honoring picket lines, unless their own union has sanctioned such a job action. They're not teamsters.

Freedom Airlines may continue operating or not, but I wouldn't count on it, since it exists basically to feed Delta. If Delta isn't operating, there isn't much reason for the vast majority of Freedom Airlines' passengers to take their Freedom Airlines flights.

Can I assume if Delta folds that the Delta tickets I booked through Disney for our 12/6 and 12/11 flights, that I could just call Disney and they would rebook our flights for other airlines?
