My daughter is in charge of a Childrens' technology and Science Camp...they bought all new PC's and laptops for it. At the end of the Camp they sell them...the PC's ..model# 2005 Dell-Dimension 3000.. plus 15" monitor and keyboard for $599 CAD..is this reasonable? I know NOTHING about Dell at all! There is no CD burner or DVD drive.

Thanks!!

I wouldn't from my experiance I had nothing but headaches with my Dell laptop and it was very expensive. We paid over 5K for it and it was a pain in the butt from the day we got it so I sent it back.

Hi Minnie56,

It wasn't too long ago that Dell were selling the same packages on their website for $299 and then it went up to $399. In the quiet period after christmas, January to March, you can always find good prices. $599 is not such a good deal for a used PC.

Stay away. You can find a new Dell for that price (if you must go through Dell!). No one can touch Dell's prices. People either have a good or bad experience with Dell. I'm of the mind you get what you pay for. ;).. but if that's within your budget then go for a new $599 Dell special that will be out there, and never-ever pay any shipping!

You would have to know more about what is in them, i.e. video cards etc. But I agree with the consensus, buy new and get a warranty!

Latest deal I saw yesterday was for $299 from Dell. We have five (5) Dells at home. Stay away from the camp deal. Buy new!

$299US right? :) Dell did have some $299CDN boxes. Great basic machines, but not very upgradable. No AGP slots, blah blah blah.. but again great basic machine if you're not looking for much!
www.redflagdeals.com always keeps track of good "geek" deals.

You can go to the Dell canadian web site and customize a desktop to match the one you're considering. Here's the closest I could get to your specs. Don't forget you would be saving on taxes and delivery charges. Your model is very basic and not very upgradable. As other posters mentionned it regularly goes on sale for 399 CA. By the time you factor in your tax savings it's just about equal. I have a higher end DELL and am very satisfied with it and their in-home customer service.

Hi.
If you go into the Small Business section on Dell's website you can find the exact specs:
Celeron 2.4, 256Mb RAM, 40Gb HDD (no biggie.. you're new to this! :) ), 48X CD Burner, 17" TFT, FREE shipping and FREE printer for $599.
I'd go with the new one. The 17" TFT is worth it itself.
The Small Business section always has the best deals, plus you don't need to be a small business to buy from there!
