Dell or Sony PC's

I have purchased 7 Dell PC's over the years (currently use 3). All (except the DirecTV TiVo unit) of my audio visual (home theater stuff) is Sony. My PC stuff has been great, as has my AV stuff.

Have a Dell - as much as I hate to say it, I won't buy another. I've had more problems then I can count and am just thankful I bought an extended warranty. If my computer was the exception it would be one thing but I know too many family/friends that have had the same exp.

I want a Sony Viao or an Apple next time.

I know I heard horror stories from Dell but also heard stories that there great. I would like a PC and not to sure which to go for. Is like buying a car is a MAJOR purchase. :(

We've had very GOOD luck with Dell. The one Sony PC I had was a piece of junk.

Really see I cant get a VIAO Sony for about $400 less then the Dell. I mean is Sony how bad can it be 95% of my electronics are Sony and work great.

Viao's were notorious for overheating CPUs that shut down the system, damanged the chipset and memory in the process and cost almost as much as their original purchase price to fix. I think they have resolved the problems, but it was widespread and there are/were whole websites devoted to the problem.

They're both good brands. Dell's got a longer track record than Sony with regard to desktops, so that would make the difference for me.

I own 2 Dells and will never ever buy anything from them again - problems upon problems with NO customer service.

I would LOVE a Sony Vaio!!!

there costumer service is a NIGHTMARE 99.9% of the time you get someone over in India.

I've used their (Dell) customer service a lot since one of our laptops belongs to my teenage son (read - user created problems). I've never gotten somebody in India.

Sony customer service was not in India - it was non-existent.

Each time I have called or chatted online, they are in India however they have always gotten me help and fixed the problem. It's just having the problems that annoys me! I have been happy with the service, I just don't think I should have to call upon it so often :rotfl:

It basically comes down to "the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know."

I think you answered you own question on your own thread.

Yep. Sony is probably fine now. It's like the whole American car thing. It might be true that GM is every bit a good as Honda now. But I'll never know because I've got no compelling reason to switch back.
