Actually dell has better customer service than HP. Trust me been there done that. I've heard the labtops are more incline to damage if you accidently drop them or something.

I had an HP for a year and I finally gave up and bought a Dell XPS M1210 from the Dell Outlet. I already had a Dell XPS400 desktop that I got from the Outlet last year. The desktop has been great, so I tried their laptop. It can't be worse than the disaster the HP was. I don't even know if I can sell the thing for scrap it was SOOO bad.

If you really want better than Dell, then look to Lenovo. You'll pay a little more, but you'll get better service for the same quality product.

I tend to avoid Dell due to masses of bad luck with them.

Add me in to those that have had bad luck with them. Mine messed up yesterday for the 100th time. I ordered a new computer(not Dell) last week.

I've had dell and hp. I had better service with my dell and it lasted from the time I was 16 till March '05 when I traded it in for a HP laptop and now that's in the shop today getting repaired.

I've bought quite a few Dell laptops. I currently have 3 Latitudes at my house. They've been excellent products, so far (heavy use).

That said, I have to add that last year (for our school district) I bought over a quarter of a million dollars worth of Dell computers (both desktops and laptops plus projectors, etc.). I'm sure I wasn't there largest customer by any means, but that's a pretty substantial amount of orders over the course of one year.

I have NEVER encountered worse customer service anywhere for any reason. As much as I like the products (and I still do), I quit buying from them. I didn't come across anything they couldn't mess up (and constantly did so). The rep that I started the year with was great, but he was promoted a couple of months later, and things were never right again.
