I'm going to buy a laptop. I have always owned Dell Desktops, never any problems! So,anyone have an Ispiron 15R? Tell me what you think! Thanks!

I had a basic one (Vostro) from Dell a couple of years ago. The screen went black after about three months. It was still under warranty, so they sent a next day pick up tag and off it went. It came back, and the screen was still black. Repeat the process, still a black screen. They sent a repair guy to my house who got it working but the screen went black within a couple of hours! They ended up sending me a refurbished replacement. The screen on that one is now dying(dead pixels) slowly.

I didn't buy my next computer from Dell.

I have an inspiron 640m. It's been a fine computer, except my wireless card has only worked for about 4 months in the middle of the 3 years I've had it. Dell doesn't know why it doesn't work. I found their hold times to be long, tech support people hard to understand (in India?) and unable to fix my problem.

Also, my battery won't hold a charge anymore and I bought the 8 hr one. For the past year, if it's unplugged, it lasts about 20 minutes.

It's an alright laptop, I guess, but I won't be a repeat customer.

ETA: the only reason I bought a dell in the first place was because Vista had just come out and was preloaded in all the computers and I wanted XP.

We have 4 of them, 2 Latitudes, an Insperion and a Studio and they are all just fine. One latitude did have the screen go out but DS18 replaced it and it has worked just fine ever since. We also have a Dell Desktop that we have had no issues with.

I've been through HPs, Acer, and now a Dell Studio. This Dell is my favorite of them all. It has a wonderful wide screen and is probably the fastest computer I've ever owned. The motherboard recently went bad and needed to be replaced. It was still under warranty, so we went ahead and paid for the in-home repair and they took care of it quickly.

my family has 4 Dell laptops...so far so good. minor problems here and there but we always get the warranty (I think it is a 3 or 4 year thing) and things get taken care of very quickly.

I'm on battery #1 still and adapter #2. I also just replaced my keyboard about 6 months ago..and my computer gets used a lot.

Mine is actually almost 6 years old...it is slowing down big time...but since it still works I can't justify replacing it yet...when I do it will be with another Dell.

Ditto on practically all counts. The HPs and the Acers really sucked. The Dell Studio is extremely nice. (It's my wife's. I use my old XPS M1530, which is still a great machine.)

Spend the extra $$ on the extended warranty. Not because it's a bad computer, but they have great customer service should something go wrong.

We happened to buy a Dell that has a known problem of overheating and blowing out the motherboard. They have sent the same repair guy out to our house to fix it 4 times over the past 2 years. He's watched our kids grow up and our twins born, lol.

Our 2 year extended warranty expires in Oct, and we had to have the motherboard replaced again a few weeks ago. Dell has extended our warranty (FREE) for 6 more months, and they said if it goes out again, they will give us a new computer instead of fixing it again.

We currently have 3 Dells ( a desktop, laptop and notebook) and other than the hard drive going out on the 5 year old desktop, we haven't had any issues with any of them. :)

Our last desktop was a Dell, also, and no issues with that one, either.

I got a Dell 15R a month or so ago and LOVE it. The colors are great, and while the case has a slightly more plasticy feel in some areas than what I was used to, it is really nice. If you want to know anything specific just ask

VERY good point. I've had them replace the screen on my XPS twice, because (somehow!) a cat hair managed to get under the outer layer of the screen. No problem at all; they came to where I worked and replaced it right there in my office, very efficiently.

had Dells all my life... I finally got sick of all the virus's and threats and stuff with PC's... So i spent an extra $200 and got an Apple Macbook.... Best purchase ever.

Good Luck with your Dell though, i have an Inspirion sitting here next to me that is as good as a paperweight after the last virus crippled it (even had that Norton Security suite from comcast on it)

I hear about folks suffering from viruses over and over, but I never had a virus on any PC I've ever owned (but to be fair, I've always used excellent virus protection, very conscientiously, never downloaded things that I didn't know the pedigree of, or tried to get a too-good-to-be-true deal, etc.).

3 Dell desktops, 2 dell laptops, 1 Dell notebook, and 1 Apple Laptop in my household. My daughter is the rebel with the Apple. Works just fine, but she has run into a few issues where she had to jump on my PC because websites she goes to don't work with Apple. Never understood why
Apple hasn't fixed that...well, I do really, they think the WEBSITES should make the adjustment, not Apple.
I had a laptop screen die, but the computer was 7 years old at the time. I'm told by everyone in the family I should have replaced that computer 2 years before, so I guess I got my money's worth.
And I had a hard drive die on a desk top under warranty, they had someone out the next day to replace it, and that was back in 2000.
My last 2 employers were wall to wall Dell, a is my wife's employer.
We lose a few flat screens, and a few sound cards, but we have never had to replace a computer that died. We replace them because they are old.
Dell just does everything right.

I'm on a Dell Studio 1535 right now. I've had it for about 2 years with no problems and it gets used alot.

We all have Dell lap tops - as well as 2 Dell desk tops..

My lap top is 4 years old (almost 5) and I just replaced the keyboard because the keys were sticking like crazy.. Replacement cost less than $20 and took less than 5 minutes to install.. (Still can't believe I managed to do it myself - LOL..)

Other than that, no problems - we love them - and they get a LOT of constant use..:goodvibes

DD's IL's got a Dell desk top around 7 years ago - still using it - no problems..
