Dell FINALLY does the right thing

I just ordered a brand new Inspiron last night. :guilty:

Makes me wonder why I'm giving up my perfectly good Gateway. Sure it's six years old, but I've never had a problem with it.

OMG My DSIL works for Intel and Dell was trying to blame her for a part that she created for the fires. I am so happy to see that they realized it was them. She has been out of her mind with worry over this whole thing!

My Dell Inspirion is not working right now (this is common in our house - see earlier rants about Dell) but I will check it when I get home.

I believe Sony also makes batteries for Gateway laptops.

Dude, i'm glad i bought an acer.

Don't start jumping for joy just yet. I had one, and during it's three year life I had to replace the screen, the motherboard, and the fan (TWICE!)

I finally GAVE IT AWAY just to be rid of it.

My Inspiron has a recalled battery. Painless to request a new one, although I'm not all that pleased that it won't ship for up to 20 days.

At least I back everything up, except my bosses junk that he needs to back up himself. (This is my PERSONAL laptop that I occasionally use for business rather than having the company have to invest $900 in a software package I use for an hour a week, that's why I feel that way.)

Mine is safe.. Phew! :thumbsup2

Have to call DD tonight and have her check on hers..

I hate to jinx us, but all of the Dell's we have are fine and have been. We are checking the batteries now, but I am glad we have been fine up until now.

I am SOOOOO glad I didn't just order a Dell for DD for college. We bought a Gateway because it was such a good deal.

The batteries may be made by sony but they are made to Dell's specifications. Unless Dell is saying that sony made them wrong I suspect the problem lies in the batteries compatibility with the charging system. The truth is Dell doesn't make anything, almost every part of a Dell, or any of the major brands for that matter, are made by someone else.

Wow! I just bought a lap top for a Marine in Walter Reed Army Medical hospital - he desparetly needed one to communicate with friends and family and to play some games. The one I got for him is: Inspiron B130, Intel Pentium M 735 (1.70GHz/2MB Cache/400MHz FSB) - From what I can tell, I don't think this one was effected. Thank goodness!!!!!!!!!!

I believe the problem is with shorted cells, not an issue with the charging system.

Yep, the article I read said that although the same battery is used in other computers, it should not be a problem with them, it is the interaction with the Dell operating system that is the problem.
It does look like Sony is going to take some of the hit financially - not a surprise.

Apple is investigating whether they have the same problem. HP has already determined that they're unaffected by this problem with the Sony batteries.

When I took my Toshiba Satellite to the fix-it place because it went pop, smelled electrical and died, there was a sign that said, "We can fix your Dell or sell you one that works."

I thought it was funny, but I was in there with a broken laptop...and it wasn't Dell. They said it was a logic board board problem. They could have said it was the ijinwoe for all I know about computers.

My laptop is starting to get hot on the bottom again, just like it did before it broke last time. I don't want to keep going through this.

Anyone know who sells laptops that DON'T break?

False.

Should have asked yourself why Sony would take responsibility if it was Dell's oeprating system.

Experts say the problem is caused by a manufacturing error by Sony, where metallic impurities were introduced into some of the batteries. The metallic parts may then intrude through the insulation that is supposed to keep apart the anode and cathode elements in the battery cells, leading to a spark that can cause a fire.

The batteries covered by the recall were produced by Sony over the past two years. The same batteries are also used by other computer makers, although the Sony spokesman said the problem was restricted to those used by Dell.

I'm so happy that mine is one of the Dells with a bad battery! Happy because my battery hardly keeps a charge, so I was planning on replacing it. Saves me some money. :teeth: Yes, I'm a cheap date...happy to save money any way I can! :cool1:
