Followup to my Sony problem, Sony agreed to ship me a new system. Part of the agreement was that UPS will do the delivery, but NOT just drop this system off on a doorstep without a signature and especially without someone being home. This is what happened to my other DVD player that was repaired by the company last month.......they had the wrong address and just dropped it off on the doorstep and someone else became 1 DVD player richer (well, it was a piece of crap and has probably already stopped working...lol).

Knowing I will not be Stateside for several more weeks and the fact that they knew only I would sign for acceptance of this package, the box would sit at a warehouse until I could pick it up. Under no circumstance would it be signed by anyone else. Not difficult instructions. My mother arrived home this afternoon to find a HUGE box sitting at her doorstep.

Why would a delivery service just leave something on a doorstep without a signature for proof of delivery....especially when instructions were to get a signature? This was not exactly a small $10 birthday present mailed from grandma. It had a value of $600.

They don't care wether or not you actually get your package; the delivery people only care about beating the clock to finish their deliveries. UPS begin the worst about accounting for every second of the drivers time.

I came home yesterday to find the kids new Disney PC sitting on the front porch, in plain view of the busiest street in town, in the original bright blue "Disney Dream PC" box.

Hey, Fed Ex left a $2000 computer on our doorstep once. Yet, they made me go to their office to sign for some item of clothing I ordered!

We sold some stock this year and our (substantial) check was sent via DHL. I was not home when they attempted delivery, so they left a note and I had to call to reschedule delivery. I stayed home from work because a signature was required. Guy shows up, hands me the envelope and walks away. I just stood there staring at the envelope, which had 5 stickers on it saying "SIGNATURE REQUIRED!" in huge letters.

Your 100% wrong about that comment. UPS is union...they're not clock watchers- TRUST me on that one.

I belong to a wine club that uses fedex for delivery. Not only is a signature required, but it must be from someone over 21 as it is alcohol. It states this in HUGE letters on the box, yet it has been just left on our front doorstep on a number of occassions.

The day our computer was to be delivered, I stayed home all day except for just a few minutes, and yup they tried to deliver it then. It required a signature though so UPS didn't leave it on the porch. I really wanted the computer that day so I called and could pick it up at the UPS warehouse 30 miles away at the end of the day. It took quite a while for them to figure out that it no longer existed on the face of the planet! The driver had written that it was put in the cage but it wasn't there and it wasn't in the truck. I guess it was just too tempting. :(

This past Christmas I sent my 3yr old Niece a bunch of older Disney movies my DS/DD didn't watch anymore-and you can't buy right now-along with a brand new Disney Princess Fleece-Well....FEDEX just left it on the doorstep and -You guessed it-it was stolen(It had x-mas decorations all over the box) These Delivery people are so Fixed on getting all the deliveries done-that they don't think nothing at all about leaving a little girls x-mas present out in the open begging to be stolen-Burns me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sad2:

I sure hope theres no fed ex or ups employee's on the boards, its not up to UPS or FEDEX to require a signature, its up to the shipper.

Also- if the driver knows the house/people more often than not they will leave the stuff, as a benefit to the person getting the package, to keep the person from having to either go to the local office, or stay home and get the package.

My UPS guy use to put stuff in my garage, he'd go in the side door, then he'd leave the sticker on the garage window- with a "i'll be back" checked off, when really- its in my garage.

My brother has worked for UPS for many years, and before that worked for Fed Ex. The way people think they dont are just burns me up. If you will remember my post around christmas time, when people were still waiting packages, and my brother was out until 11pm delievering. He didnt have to, none of the drivers did, however their entire location, every driver was out till 11pm the week of christmas so everyone got their stuff. Christmas Eve he wasnt home until 8pm.

If the case was that they just have to "get X## of delivery's done" they would not mandate the lunch breaks. That is why you'll see a UPS truck on the side of the road for an hour. THey have no choice but to stop for an hour. Yes, thats union that made that happen, but UPS could have negotiated THAT outta the contracts.

If your worried about a package being stolen or whatever, use the USPS, then the person receiving a package will have to go to the local post office, during normal business hours- and pick it up....convenient huh?

We are off to the USPS distribution center this am, for the 2nd time for this package. The first time DH waited 15 mins for someone to answer the bell, and finally gave up. We plan to be there when it opens today - wish us luck!

I prefer getting things left on the porch. The UPS guys know us (I'm a Creative Memories consultant, so he's here a lot!) Having to go pick up something is such an inconvenience for me, since I'm a SAHM with 2 kids. I'd have to get a babysitter just to do that!

However, I do agree that delivery people just aren't paying attention to the requirements for the delivery anymore. I frequently get my new credit cards left on the front porch even tho signature is required. (And don't get me started about the postal carrier bending my photos!!!!!!)

I have NEVER had a problem with a UPS shipment--as a sender or a receiver. My UPS guy is the best. He goes above and beyond and we give him a nice tip at Christmas. FedEx experience hasn't been all that great residentially, but they are still relatively new to that. I think they subcontract residential deliveries in my area. Have not had FedEx problems with business stuff.

As for my previous post about DHL, the SHIPPER did require a signature--it was on stickers all over the envelope.

Sleepy, my friends have told me that UPS in Italy is horrible; do you agree? I sent some stuff back that I didn't want to pack and it's been almost 2 months and I haven't seen it yet. Think I'll ever see it again?

My friend says that wine has been enjoyed by a UPS employee!!!

The advantage of living in a small town..... the drivers know where you work and will deliver it there for you!!

our UPS guy doesn't even ring our doorbell. He just drops it and runs.
I really think this is wrong - pet peeve of mine.

Same with the UPS guy who delivers to our house. What's up with that? Some of the boxes that we get at our house can be pretty big (not huge) but they are noticeable when left in front of our house. I guess they just figure that someone's insurance will cover it if it gets stolen.

We have our packages delivered to DH's office. That way someone will most likely be there to receive it.

When we had a couple of packages delivered to our house they always rang the doorbell. One UPS driver even helped move DD's big kitchen (Christmas) into the house for me. :)

My niece shipped me her Dell computer for me to fix it. After almost a week I called her and asked did she ship it. Yes, she did. I verified that it was indeed delivered a few days prior. Hmm... I asked my niece what address she sent it to. Well it wasn't my address. It was close but even being close it was a non existent address!! FedEx decided to deliver it to my neighbors house. The problem with that is they were on vacation! So for nearly a week the box (plain brown) sat on their front porch until I decided to go looking for it there.
