Delivery of groceries to your room question

I have seen some posts where people are having groceries delivered to their hotel room for the day that they arrive. Which grocery stores are you using and did you just order them online? Could you please let me know how this works, we are staying at the DLH in April and we need groceries. If this is not possible due to money restraints, are there any grocery stores nearby?

I use Safeway's grocery delivery service at home so I knew that was what I wanted to do on our trip last year.
I called DLH and asked for the bell desk. I asked them if they would accept a grocery delivery from Vons and they said they would, however I would have to return to my room in order for the bell desk to bring my order up. The Safeway delivery guy is not allowed upstairs.

It worked out great. On our first day we checked in early (10am)at DLH, got to the park around 11am. I scheduled my delivery between 4-6pm. The bellman called me around 5:30 and said our delivery had arrived and was I heading back soon. We planned on heading back to rest and eat dinner around then anyway.
We went back to our room, i called the bellman, he brought the order up and I tipped him. He said it was a great idea and he didn't know why more people didn't use the grocery delivery service.

The fridge was small which I knew ahead of time so I was careful not to order too many perishables. We ordered milk, yogurt, cereal(the small kellogg's boxes), coffee, half and half:coffee: bagels, sandwich bread, lunchmeat, fruit, waters, snacks, sodas, juice boxes, paper plates, napkins, plastic utencils, plastic bowls and Gatorades.
And silly me! What was I thinking? I should have ordered beer and vodka!

Before we left for DL I placed my order on Safeway.com, after I changed my user profile address to DLH's address the screen changed to Vons.com.
It is still the same, just SoCal version of Safeway.
For the comments box I added my cell phone number and put instructions for the bellman to call me when the order arrived.

We will do it again for our trip this year. We are staying at PPH this time. I already called the bell desk there and double checked that they will accept it.

I've heard that albertsons.com also delivers in the area.

But I'll be using Von's (thank you again joeysmommy, for such a good description), probably to get little snacks, water, and whatever else I feel like getting.

I don't know about von's, but my safeway.com deliveries won't, well, deliver if the order is under $50, so you do need more than just a little bit in your order.

Thanks so much Joeysmommy for all of the great info. I think I'll go that route too...only I won't forget the vodka!!! hehe:cool1:

We just stay at a hotel that does the shopping for us and it is free.

My friend always shares her free delivery code on a $50 order with me.
If I can get the September code I will post it for you, when are you going?
She orders safeway.com every week so she always gets a code from them. I only get one once in a while since I only use safeway.com once or twice a month.

For last year's trip we ordered over $150 in groceries so the delivery was free.
We probably will this time too, the booze should help with getting the order up to $150. :upsidedow

bumbershoot- to bump your order up to $50 you could always order things you would have packed anyway, like baby Tylenol, toothpaste, shampoo, soap etc.
My husband loves beef jerky and it's expensive, so whenever I need to get my order up to $50 I usually add a bag or two of jerky.....or vodka helps too:upsidedow

We're aren't going until April so it will be awhile for us, I'm just trying to find out everything I can now so I'm rushing around to do it last minute.

We could probably bump it up to $150 easily since we have 3 kids and gosh,,I guess we could buy the big bottles of vodka!! :rolleyes1

We used Albertsons.com in May and it worked out great! They were right on time and very nice and our order was perfect. I was told that there wasn't any minimum order and I only spent around $50. We stayed at the Carousel Inn and we were in the room to sign for it, so I'm not sure if they would allow a drop off at the hotel desk or not. I guess someone would have to check on this. We plan on using them again for our December trip.:)

Even though I grew up in CA, I moved before I was drinking age, and it continues to surprise me that you can buy liquor at a grocery store. Even though I can clearly remember the liquor section at our P&W, and my brother lives in San Diego and I saw the liquor section just last October! (DH grew up in WA, and he just about fell over when he saw the liquor near the beer)
