Delicate question about the Candlelight Processional Show

Never thought of bringing a crock pot but with the holiday pricing on food it's not a bad idea!!!

HUH...I have never heard this argument...really

the issue at hand is bringing appliances into ones room. toasters, crockpots, microwaves, etc...basically anylthing that can be a fire hazard and/or stink up the joint.

I think the reigious aspect of the Candlelight Processional has been accurately covered here. I have only one thing to add:
Do not attend if you are a true athiest, and will do nothing but smirk or negatively comment during the readings or if you are not Chrisitian, and your kids are too young to understand other religions- as the bible reading will confuse them.

I have actually never seen that discussion...LOL...I guess I am on the side of taking an appliance...I took a toaster last time we stayed at Movies...never even thought of it being a fire hazard...I guess I thought if you can rent a fridge at the resorts a toaster isnt that much of a concern...:rotfl2:...not starting an srgument or hijacking the thread...just saying...

anyway back to the previously scheduled discussion

We are not a religious family at all, but are looking forward to attending this. As someone said, you can look at it from a cultural and historical standpoint and appreciate it from that angle. For example, my in-laws are Buddist, but celebrate Christmas as part of the American culture. I don't really "get" being offended by different religions, but that's me. I can appreciate all kinds of music and beliefs and that is the approach I choose to take.

Anyway, the narrator for our show is a Christian singer so I absolutely know he will add his own thoughts to the evening. I'm just hoping my DS5, doesn't get bored as that's probably my biggest concern.

For the record...the narrarators do not ad-lib...I am pretty sure each follows the same script.....they do however get a few minutes at the end of the show to speak...its usually a thank you to everyone...I have never seen one give any type of personal views...but I have not been to every single CP offered

Stephen Curtis Chapman did a bit of personal stuff (very very brief) at the end when we were there, but given that he's a Christian singer, that was not at all surprising to me. And it certainly wasn't any kind of conversion thing. :goodvibes

I've seen them ad lib a bit. Not in the telling of the story, but I've narrators mention why a certain part of the show they're approaching/just finished is their favorite, etc.

I seem to recall Andy Garcia talking about his mother or something at one point.

I'm sure some of them do, some of them don't.

Steven Curtis Chapman was the narrator when we attended last year as well. I chose one of his scheduled dates because I knew that he is a Christian. And I am so delighted that when we decided to go a bit later in December this year we found that he will also be doing the CPP later this year and we have CPP booked for one of his nights again.

Kirk Cameron did. He said he was a converted atheist and was glad he had found his way (something to that effect).

I for one am very glad for this thread. I had read some about the CP and thought.. oh yea.. if we have time we'll have to try & fit that in. After reading this thred, I am booking the dinner/seats to make sure I don't miss it. It sounds very awesome and I'm very much looking forward to it.

Hi Sherry!

It is AWESOME! It's very moving and you will be in tears, well at least I was . Anyway you will enjoy it!

hmmmmm....."Peace on Earth and Goodwill towards man...." I guess I can see why you would be offended by that. Gosh, if only the entire world would believe in those 2 principles, can you imagine the HORROR! Give me a break!

:thumbsup2

I'm always stumped when people say something like CP or it story "offends" them. I can understand it not mattering to someone, or just not to someone's tastes. But to say "offend"? People who abuse kids offend me, not someone who has particular religious or non-religious beliefs or preferences.

Please permit me to explain a little further why I posed the following question in my post #20 on page 2 of this thread: "Would you be offended if the narrator for the show you attended added a bit of their personal feelings of what Christmas means to them? If the answer to that question is "yes" then perhaps you should not attend the show."

Last year as we lined up to check in for a lunch ADR at an EPCOT restaurant I heard a woman louding complaining to her friends about the previous night's CP. (Our CPP was also the previous night.) Her words were something to the effect that "he (the narrator) had the nerve to say that without the birth of Jesus Christ we would not have a reason to celebrate Christmas! Doesn't Disney know anything about political correctness? How could they have a show like that!" It made me really sad, she just didn't have any idea what the CP would be before making the decision to attend. And because it was completely foreign to her belief system she was greatly offended. If I had thought that there was any way I could have spoken a few words to her that would not have offended her further I would have, but I really don't think she would have been ready to hear me.

Enjoy the holidays in whatever way/s suit/s you. Our family will be celebrating CHRISTmas.

Wow. You have great restraint, because I would've tried explaining the whole keep Christ in Christmas thing!;)

My answer to the OP is that being at the CP did feel like being in church. My heart felt like bursting while listening to what basically is the Gospel set to music. I wish they would do it at my church!!

I love that Disney actually keeps the true meaning of Christmas in this ONE thing that they do in the parks. Everywhere I go, the true meaning of Kwanzaa and Hanukkah are told, yet only the secular meaning of Christmas is told and it upsets me. I hope that Disney doesn't stop doing this b/c some people may be offended by the story of Christ.

What night are you going? I booked my package for Steven Curtis Chapman also. He narrated when we saw CP in '08 and it was wonderful!

I wasn't going to respond to this one, but after reading all through it I feel the need. Most of my feelings have been made clear by others. We are a very Christian family who attend church and participate in many church activities regularly. I am finding it hard to believe that anyone could expect a CHRISTMAS event to be anything other than the Christmas story. It is why we celebate the holiday. It is clearly stated by Disney in the advertisment for the event. I found it to be very moving and helped me and my husband get in the right frame of mind for the holiday season. It reminded me quite clearly that all the hype of the holiday is not really important. The Story is the important thing. For those of you who are not Christian it will simply be a beautiful and well produced show. Go and enjoy! It is well worth it. If you feel you will be offended - don't go.You can always go to the show at MK during the MVMCP which is totally not religious.
