I had friends have a bench for everyone to sign at their wedding last year. I'm not sure if they later had the signatures burned into it. We just used permanent markers to sign it.

I didn't really like that idea, but I guess I'm not that sentimental about the guest book. I'm partial to the scrapbook style. Have a page for every family to complete and then add a picture of them at the wedding added later.

that's what i'm doing, i got mine at guestbookstore.com it's being ups'd to me right now, i'll post pics when i get it...

how about this idea, it ties into your end table idea...

you could buy tiles (or something similar) and have your guests write on them, then you could use the tiles to cover a table, end table, etc...

I found these on Martha's website. I could set out cards and envelopes in different shades of blue, maybe even have a fish bowl for the guests to put them into. Afterwards I can put the cards into a scrapbook, or use them to decorate a table like sunsh1ne suggested. What does everyone think?

This one has stickers and colored pencils in addition to the colored cards, and theres a cute little sign that says "Please craft a special note for the bride and groom".

I LOVE IT! martha's great because most of her stuff will last, it's all acid free and good quality (that you pay for, but it's martha, who cares...)

She had a black mat? What did the guests sign with, a white paint pen? I'll have to check out her PJ. That sounds really interesting!

I believe you can use a gel pen. I know that was popular with kids a while ago. Definitely check out her TR!

I've been following along and really enjoying your PJ...

My DD is using a "tree" of twisted bare branches and the cards (like the small ones in the pics above from Martha) are going to have ribbon attached so that as each guest signs them, they can be hung from the tree (btw - she is getting marred at the WP on 1/4/08).... Her "tree" will be in a glass vase with snow in the bottom (winter wonderland theme)....maybe you could do branches of coral or something like that....

And as for you FMIL - you may never figure her out, but as long as your DF is behind you and understands what maniuplation is going on then you guys will be fine:cool1:

Hi Kristen
What if you gave everyone a shell or sand dollar and had them sign it, then you could do whatever you want with the shells (put them in a frame, whatever). The only treasure chests I could find yesterday were a cheap looking plastic and pretty small. They are the "fill the treasure chest" things. BUT the stuff that you put in the cheap plastic chests are a much better size and they looked nice. I just don't think you can buy them, which might present a problem.... maybe we can "borrow" one...:rolleyes1

Hope I can add this link to this.

Here is a link to a company that makes Signature Platters. You can get different shapes and sizes and then they will add artwork and personalize it. You have your guests sign the platter with a special pen that comes with it and then if you bake it you can make it permanent and dishwasher safe. This would be great to display or even use. There are other companies that do this also if you do a google search you can find more.

I was thinking of doing this for our Welcome/Rehersal Party.

Hi, I've been reading your PJ all day at work (lots of interruptions) and saw you were considering the mat idea. Then I joined just so I could comment :)

I used to work at Michaels and the most common mistake is that people leave the mat out to have people sign, but they don't account for the 1/4"-1/2" all the way around that the frame will cover when it's complete! So, you either have to put the frame out with the mat, which kinda sucks cause the frame can be easily damaged, or have a note saying please don't sign on the edges.

And for those using a black mat, silver sharpies work wonders!!

I agree with the mat comment. I did this for a former boss that was leaving the company and I had everyone sign the mat. I took out the glass and put the mat and picture back in the frame and the sent that around to get signed. I guess if you do not want to send the frame around you could drawn a pencil line where the frame would be and have people stay out of that area.

Or put removeable white artist's tape around the edges of the mat - I think they'd know to avoid signing on that....

Yay for another dyed crinoline! It looks beautiful! I love that color, mine is a darker blue than that. I still have to dye my niece's... what Rit color did you use?

Love what you said about your guests signing your mat. I think you better send it around with the frame.

Also, I just love the way your dye job came out. Can't wait to see you wedding photos with the blue peeking out.
