As of now, the Castaway Club credit is still offered IF YOU BOOK YOUR NEXT CRUISE WHILE ONBOARD...but that's it.

.and do agree it's not fair at all....to DVC'ers (which we are) and returning cruisers(which we are).

CC should have sent out a letter informing all CC members that this was going to take place on a certain date..and you had until that date to book your cruise to get the onboard credit.
Not like the original deal they had...120 days and 18 mons.

Maybe they don't realize that this was an incentive to get people to repeat....now with this
notice...as die hard Disney and Disney Cruise Fans as we are...we may explore another
cruise line. And then we may not.

But CC certainly should have let everyone know about this before taking it away.

Just my two cents worth.............

that is pretty poor customer service. I can't believe they would do something like that without making it public knowledge.

I guess i don't understand what the CC member benefits are, besides free drinks at a one hour party. When i priced a cruise i did it both with and without the castaway club member number and got the exact same price. Most all other cruise lines at least offer a small discout to return cruisers...

Most cruise lines have more than two ships to keep full. That is the real problem - they keep sailing full because people love sailing on DCL. Hey, those great rates at the WDW resorts will stop once crowds return too. If they had 30 ships, guess what, they would have greater discounts for return cruisers. Like any offer, it is subject to change. We sure don't like it! A third and fourth ship will help cause it will give them more capacity and it will be a bit harder to fill them in the offseason. Sailing at 100% all of the time isn't great because they lose all the extra money when it is the peak. Sailing at 100% in the peak and maybe 80% in the offpeak is more idea cause then they are really getting the most out of the ship and not turning around crowds. So we need several ships at 100%/80% instead of two at 100%/100% and all those people turned away.

Then we can have our discounts back and they will be even more profitable with the extra ships ... the Disney Dream, the Disney Goldmind or whatever they name the new ships.

I understand the theory of supply and demand - DCL is definitely not hurting in the demand area. However, they have done quite a bit lately, including increasing the points needed for their cruises. It took 851 points for our cruise this year - it'll take 954 points for the same exact cat./cruise next year - an increase of 12%! Is the cash value for the cruise increasing 12%? It sounds like DVCLady is saying the credit will not apply for cruising on points *even* if booking while onboard. Am I misunderstanding this WebmasterMichelle?

Trishy, I'm not sure on the points question in regards to booking onboard, to tell you the truth. I'm fairly certain that the onboard booking offer is for cash cruisers only and you could not book with DVC points while on the cruise anyway, so I think it may be a moot point.

Okay, I am confused.

I booked a cruise on points shortly after my last cruise in 2001.

The cruise is 6/14/02

I was told that DVC members did get the CC credit - now they are taking it away?

PLease clarify before I call DCL.

I did not use DVC points, but I booked a cruise today and received a Castaway Club onboard credit. We cruised on March 10th previously, and just booked a quick 3 day for Oct. 31-the Halloween Cruise!!! We booked through Dreams Unlimited, and they informed us that we would receive a $50.00 onboard credit for our 3 day cruise. I hope this helps..... :sunny:

I spoke to Donna - the ressie mgr. onboard at the CC party last week. She said they recently started offering the credit to those booking onboard in cash. She said her job is a fairly new position created by DCL. Obviously, they have been successful. The party was very crowded. She was busier than a one armed paper hanger on our cruise! People were lined up to speak with her on Deck 4, across from the DVC desk & Studio Sea. Most people are booking the western route. The CC credit is off the web page as a benefit for the Castaway Members.

FYI- They are NOT giving pins to CC members when you check in at the CC desk, as was posted on these boards. I was on the cruise last week & asked about it. The CM said I wasn't the first person that day to inquire about them. Many had... and she was quite puzzled. She said there were no pins, but a gift would be in our stateroom- black DCL sports bag w/ water bottle- very nice. It will be interesting to see if/and when the pin thing surfaces at check in.

It appears they are really re-vamping the Castaway Club.

Ok I am so confused. We booked a few weeks ago, paid one person cash and two with points. As we were in our 120 day period the DVC woman came back on the line and said we are getting our 200 credit. Does this mean they are taking it away? Do I need to call someone? I don't want to count on that and then find out it's gone. Help! Ann:eek:

We went on our last DCL Cruise in spring 2000. After retuning home we recieved a letter from Castaway club saying that being it was our 2nd cruise, the next time we cruisd on DCL we would get $200 credit. There were no dates of expiration or dates that we had to book a cruise. From what I am reading here, does anyone know if we lost that offer? :( :Pinkbounc

Cruisedad, read your offer if you still have it. I am pretty sure it is only if you book within a 120 day window. We have cruised in '99, '00,'01 and '02. We had the credit each time on the returning cruises (the last three). Now we booked '02 and next years '03 at the same time. I don't know if we will get the credit or not. We were suppose to at the time of booking but if the offer is changed I guess we will find out next spring break.

What we have always received for a return cruising gift was the black sports bag with water bottle. We have 6 of them now since we had to get 2 staterooms in the past. I believe during the first 7 day cruise, our first repeat cruise in '00, everyone onboard the ship had one in their stateroom with the date sewn on it to commemorate the 1st 7 day cruise.

Most cruise lines do give a little incentive to get returning cruisers to book again. The Disney ships are not always full and so you would think the program would keep up until the ships are always full.

I don't know much about DVC but the few members I have met on the cruises had said the cruise really isn't a good deal when using their DVC points. So I assumed they charged members alot more point value which has a dollar value than if they just used cash and saved their DVC points for a land Disney vacation. Kathy
