:confused3 I was really excited to get a hotel right accross the street from the disney entrance at Del Sol Inn for $65 per room per night (average). Then I read a bunch of reviews on the hotel and I wonder if its really that bad. Being really close would be fun, and I don't want to go much more than the $65.

There are other hotels the same distance that are similar in price. Most of what I have read about the Del Sol has not been good. Try your dates at the Desert Inn and Suites next door. We really like it there and a regular room usually runs about the same price $59-$69!

I'm not sure where all of these "bad" reviews others keep mentioning are coming from, since I can find a good number of positive ones (from places like traveladvisor.com, yahootravel, expedia, etc.), but from personal experience it wasn't that bad at all and an excellent value. :thumbsup2 We stayed last October for about $63-69 a night and had no major issues.

I suppose it depends on what your expectations and the level of amenities you are looking for. You will not find, nor should you expect, anything fancy from here. This is a bare bones budget hotel that we found clean, roomy, and relatively quiet (if you are on an upper floor, as the lower ones might to be noisy from above). All in all I'd stay there again-provided the price remains in about the same range.

That being said, it seems that recently their prices have gone up to around $90-100 a night :confused3 and in that range there are other comparable places nearby that have more amenities. With the lower priced rooms advantage taken away, I'd have to consider the surrounding hotels nearby as they can offer more for that price.

The bad reviews I am speaking of are from trip reports previously of people right here on the DIS, not from a travel site so I can't comment on those! I am glad you had a good stay, maybe they have improved the conditions within the last year!

:scratchin Out of curiosity, what were some of the concerns from those past reviews? Cleanliness, quality of breakfast, attitude of staff, etc.?

Based on the negative reviews from the previously mentioned travel sites, most of these were based on what seemed to me unrealistic expectations. They seemed to expect 3-4 star accommodations from a 2 star motel and were extremely disappointed.

My opinion of the DelSol is that you get what you pay for. If all you need is a clean, safe, basic place to sleep with no frills, then this place is an excellent value. If you want a little (or a lot) more amenities than just the basics, then yes, you will probably be dissatisfied.

However, all of this no longer applies if they raise their prices to match the hotels nearby ($90-100 a night) :crazy2: - the value is lost and you might as well look elsewhere for a better deal.

In my experience it's fine (once in '07, once in '05). Not great, not bad. It's fine.

Think Motel 6 and you'll be fine. Think Marriott and you'll be writing one of those bad reviews. For a weekend, I'd grab it at that price. For a week---keep looking.

JMO---YMMV!

I read some reviews from the del sol inn and every one of them said the showers went from cold to scalding. They also said the walls were paper thin. So, I looked at the desert inn and it does look better. We have a couple of friends going, so the family suite looks really good. They also have an indoor heated pool! So, how's their breakfast, and is it hard to find parking. Their site says parking is 'limited' whatever that means.

I will be staying there from 6/11-6/16. I booked directly to the hotel on their site in February for an average rate of $76.00. Would have been $71 if I were a few days earlier. Like everyone said, I am not expecting much. For being directly across the street and the large room it sounds like a good value. The fridges are
larger than normal too.

We stayed at the Del Sol last Oct. for 3 nights. It was fine for us. We're not real picky and just basically wanted a place to sleep at night so it worked out great for us. The room was big with plenty of room for our playpen for our little one to sleep, the fridge was a good size, and the continental breakfast was OK (enough to get us through the morning). The rooms were pretty quiet as well. The only cons were that there is no elevator so if you have a lot of luggage and/or strollers to take to your room I would suggest staying on the 1st floor. Also, the water in the showers would occassionally get cool and then warm back up. But for the $$ and the location we thought it was fine. Like others have said, if you have high expectations this probably wouldn't be the place for you but if you know what you're getting, it would be fine. We will probably stay again this Oct. (I saw rates at getawaytoday for $230 for 3 nights and that includes the room tax).
