Is anyone else here NEVER thirsty?? I could go a whole day without a single sip of anything. I know its not good for my health or my kidney's and I am kidney stone prone, but I just can't stomach drinking water or anything else. It bloats me and makes me feel ill. Is there something wrong with me that I never require fluids???

I'm the same way. I can probably get away with drinking about 8oz of fluids a day and be just fine with it. Iced tea is my weakness, I can drink about 32oz of that in a day no problem, but I should cut back on the caffeine and sugar in it.

I can't imagine not drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. However, when I was younger and still in school, I'd go an entire day without so much as stopping at a water fountain. To look back now, I wonder how I did that. It just seems so improbable.

I started drinking water when I started to exercise in a serious way. It was a gradual thing for me. Over time, I built up to where I now *need* bare minimum 8 glasses or I don't feel right.

I'd recommend that you start small, and work your way up. It really is NOT good to drink so little liquid. How about herbal tea? I like that a lot in the winter when it's colder.

You don't need as much water as I drink to be healthy, but seriously you need quite a bit more than nothing. 3-4 glasses is not an unreasonable goal.

I'm horrible about drinking water. I hate the taste of it in my mouth and I'm with you, it makes me feel ill. I just hate it. And people telling me it has no taste doesn't help at all. I've been trying to be better about drinking a little more and then a little more but it never seems to work even though I know it's not good for my body.

So how bad is your lack of thirst? For example if you are outside working, exercising, or doing something that is physically demanding how is your thirst level?

You may have a sensory processing disorder with regards to your thirst if you are NEVER thirsty.

More than likely that trying to drink makes you sick because you are so dehydrated. Start out small.

Remember you can get fluids from food like fruits and veggies and anything you drink counts toward your fluid intake, no matter if it is beer, milk, water, etc.

I used to be that way. I would go all day on half a soda, literally. Could eat and didn't require a drink.

In 1999, I had horrible back pain for 6 months. Painkillers, muscle relaxers, etc. Went for a urine test and passed two kidney stones IN THE CUP. (She shoots, she scores!) A scan showed I had 3 stones embedded in each kidney. Had to have surgery and the doctor said I HAD to drink more. (My dad has had 11 stones removed. I should have known... )

Now, I drink 10 glasses of water every day before I'll let myself have anything else ... no soda, juice, tea, or coffee. I haven't had a kidney stone since.

Just be careful!

I can't even imagine not feeling thirsty. There's not a moment of the day -- ever -- that I don't have water within reach (even when I'm sleeping). Right now, I have a bottle of water *and* a glass of Vitamin Water on the table beside me :thumbsup2

At work, I probably drain a 5 gallon bottle on the water coolers a day.

Florida in August doesn't have anything on my work environment in the summers up here in PA. It's been 10 degrees outside forever now and probably doesn't fall below 85 inside. Typical in the summer is 115 with 98% humidity and doesn't fall below 90 until it is finally below freezing outside.

I barely drink as well and water tends to make me feel icky and bloated. I'm very rarely thirsty, so I often do not even think about drinking unless I am eating. Since I was a kid though, I have tried to up my fluid intake, especially water. I got very ill with a stomach virus when I was 11 and, because I never drank enough, I got severely dehydrated very quickly and was hospitalized. I've always been prone to stomach illnesses, so not drinking at all is simply not an option for me.

DH easily drinks over 160 ounces of water per day, then add tea and soda. It makes me nauseous just thinking about drinking that much!

Interesting!

I drink water all day long! I always have bottled water in my purse when I leave the house and at least 2 bottles in the car. And I drink water all night long while watching tv! Just before I go to bed I make a tall glass of ice water and If I get thirsty at all during the night I will come down to the kitchen and drink from that glass I made before I went to bed! :thumbsup2

My youngest DS gets headaches if he does not drink tons of water throughout the day! He has a full Nalgene with him at all times!

OP, I have read that drinking water is also very good for your skin!

I'm constantly drinking something. . .water. . .tea. . even Diet Coke. But I'm never not within arms reach of something to drink. Not taking in enough fluids will definitely make you prone to kidney stones. How old are you? There can definitely be medical issues causing a lack of thirst. Have you really tried to get more fluids? If I were you, I would talk to my MD to rule out any underlying issues. You need to get some type of fluid in you. . .even jello and popsicles count.

OP, you are probably feeling bloated because you are drinking incorrectly. According to world-class, record breaking, mararthon runner, Stu Middleman, who is really into sports physiology & science, says it is best to drink small, slow sips of water all day long. Not gulp it or drink large glasses all at once. We're not camels. Drink throughout the day.

As momrek06 does, just carry a water bottle with you wherever you go and drink here and there. Have one at your desk, bring it to the car, have one when you shop, watch TV, etc. Drink all day, slow sips.

Also, do not gulp air in while you drink. That creates bloating.

As for the taste of water, it really does taste different, depending on the source, as different places have varying amounts of minerals.

People rave about the water here. I can't stand it. I'd rather go without water, than to drink it. And, unfortunately, many times I have. I have to drink bottled water or filtered water. I only like certain brands of bottled water. I like Poland Spring, Aquafina, Dasani and Fiji Water. Arrowmont, on the west coast is good, too.

I don't like Great Bear. I can't stand Crystal Geyser. I loathe Evian - too metallic.

As for filtered water, I really like PUR water filters. I have their pitcher and this is how I have my water at home att the time now. I can't stand Brita Filters, as it leaves a carbon taste in the water, and often times carbon residue. Yuk! :p

Certain parts of the country, they have these big filtering machines, where you can bring a huge, 5 gallon, refillable plastic jug and for 50 cents, get the tap water triple filtered. Those machines are great.

Also, try drinking water at different temperatures. I can only have the tap water here, that I can't stand, if it is ice cold. It cuts down the taste. Otherwise, I drink ALL my bottled or purified water at room temperature. No chilling. It's actually better for the body to drink it at that temp.
