Did anyone else used to watch the original series? DSis and I used to watch on the local PBS station. I've known about the new show because Noggin/The N is DSs' favorite channel. I haven't seen any new episode but I've just read on Entertainment Weekly that one of the new character is Emma, Spike's daughter.

I remember Spike as someone who had a really good head on her shoulder even with her odd appearance; she more than anything else taught be not to judge a book by the cover. Anyway the article says Spike and Snake are now married. I can't recall who Snake was--was he the blonde guy with dorky glasses? Also on the show are Joey Jeremiah (I used to have such a crush on him) and Caitlin.

Anyway, I wondered if anyone else remember the show as fondly and want to go down the memory lane together.:D

I used to love that show and I have been watching the new one with DD. Spike and Snake are married. The just had a baby. Snake was the very tall blond guy. Joey and Caitlin are seeing eachother. I think she had to leave the country for a job for a short time. Joey was married to someone else and had a daughter and apparently the wife died. The new season I think is starting this month and we can't wait.

I loved that show!!! Yes, Snake was the tall dorky guy...he was kind of cute, though! I believe that Emma's father was Shane. Are you sure that Spike and Snake are married, and not Spike and Shane?

I liked "Wheels":p He was pretty cute! Are Joey and Caitlin on the new show? My sis and I have been shunning the new show...it just doesn't have the low-budget appeal of the first one, LOL!

Oh, yeah! I remember Wheels. I understand your comment about the low-budget appeal though; it's one of the reason I haven't tried to watch the show.

Thanks for the update Robmom. Maybe I'll give the show a try, just to see how the old crew turned out.

I also liked the twin girls--does anyone remember their names?

the new season of the new one starts tonight!! thank for the reminder.. muuuuuust watch!!!!!!!!!

Shane is in a hospitol now because after Emma was born, he tried to kill himself, but he just hit his head really bad and now he's brain damaged or somethin'.. Spike married Snake and the have a baby.. but in an episode, Emma goes with Craig to find Shane and it's really sad :(

Oh, now that's going to bother me...the twins had curly hair, and one of them got pregnant and had an abortion. What were their names?!!

Does the new show have the same themesong? You know..."Wake up in the morning, feeling shy and lonely, and gee I've got to go to school..."? I loved that song, LOL!

What channel does it come on now? It use to be PBS. Do they have the old ones on DVD yet?

The new ones are on Noggin/TheN channel. I think it's available only on digital cable. I would also like to buy the old show on DVD. Hmm, I should look into it. Maybe DH could buy it for me for Christmas. :p

chrissyk, thanks for reminding me about one of the twins having an abortion. I've read that the new series also had one character have an abortion but that episode wasn't shown in the States. I wonder how they got away with airing the same storyline in the old show.

I loved these shows. Haven't really watched the new one though. The new series web page, www.degrassi.tv has some info on the old series too.

The twins were Heather and Erica. It was Erica that had the abortion, I think. :)

I didn't even know they had new episodes of it. I loved that show when it was on PBS. One of my favorite characters was Caitlin.

I started watching the new ones when I was home for Christmas. They showed a marathon. i got sucked in because so many of the old characters made cameos. Like the reunion show, their wedding and the baby shower episode. I think i have seen just about every one from the original shows except for LT and that girl he went out with (forgot her name).

PBS aired the abortion show with no problem, but The N did not air a couple of episodes where one of the current characters had one. IMO, they showed her with this guy, I think they should show her dealing with the consequences.

If they don't want to show it at the 8pm spot, at least show it later.

I ran into some friends from elementary school last weekend and we started talking about this show! We even started singing "Everybody Wants Something...". I loooooved that show!

Thanks for the link, BeamsofLight. Only info on the old series I found was on the Actor's page. Are there any other info?

Looking back, it's amazing how groundbreaking that show was. For DSis and me, who had lived very sheltered lives, the show was a real eye-opener.

There are episode summaries too. If you're on the main page, on the right of the screen there's a link to Degrassi Fan Pages. If you click on that, you get a bar at the top of the screen that says

Degrassi: The Next Generation &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Degrassi Classic

If you click on Degrassi Classic, it'll take you to the old school page. :)

Or just go to this link http://www.degrassi.tv/fan/classic.jsp. That should work.

Man, the episode guides take me back. When I was in elementary school, they used to ocassionally show us episodes of Kids of Degrassi Street in, like, guidance class and stuff. I must have seen the one where the one kid's dog kills the other kid's rabbit 5 times. ;)

My 13yo son loves the new Degrassi! Thanks for the web site

I used to watch the old series. I went to kindergarten with the twins.

So what is this "N" channel? Is it a different name for Nickelodeon? I can't find the channel, and now I want to watch the new show.

BTW, is Stephanie Kaye on the new show?! Remember her? She was such a big part of the 1st season...she used to come to school dressed normally, but then put on her "ho" clothes and makeup in the bathroom. Then she ran for class president under the slogan "all the way with Stephanie Kaye!" :p I only remember her because she looked exactly like my parents' Godchild. We thought that that was such a hoot!

Also, what about Arthur (Stephanie's brother) and his best friend Yick Yoo? They were a hoot too. Are they back?

N comes on only after 6 PM. During the day, the channel is called Noggin. (It's like how Nickekideon is Nick Jr. in the morning.) I do believe it's only for the digital cable service.

Beamsoflight, thanks for the link again. The synopsis really brought back the memories.

the old one sounds better than the new one!!!!!

And I thought the fact that I watched this at all should be limited to the "midnight confessions" thread. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one watching. I would use my kids as my excuse, but I can't yet. My oldest is only 6.
I agree the shows were and are very well done.
