Define "Anniversary"..

Well, after reading all of this I'm not sure I will wear a button in September Celebrating my 15th anniverasy and 43rd Birthday which both happen to be on the same day. September 5th. We aren't able to go until the 19th because of DH work schedual and meetings. The reason we are going to Disney is to Celebrate. I was unable to Celebrate my 40th birthday in a big way because of a car wreck. Over 2 years of doctors and therapy and pain, we felt it was time to celebrate both. I felt it would be special. Now, I don't feel like it is even worth mentioning to Disney. Kinda sad now. I will still go and enjoy Disney. Don't get me wrong , but the pin (which I was so excited to get on my 1st trip ever) will most likely be the last one i wear at Disney:sad1:
OK ... now you're just being melodramatic. And ... well ... silly.

A few people on a computer bulletin board ... people you have never met, and are not likely to ever meet ... have stated that it is their opinon that someone shouldn't wear a celebration button for whatever reason. And so now you're sad and less excited and resigned to not wearing a button during your upcoming trip. Please. Why do the opinions of these people -- who, again, you do not know and have never met -- matter? This is a discussion of opinions. Nothing more.

If you want to wear a button -- any button -- for any reason, then go ahead and wear one. And Celebrate anything and everything you want to celebrate.

Disney doesn't care when or how or how long or even where on your person you wear a birthday or anniversary button. They WANT you to wear buttons because the WANT you to celebrate! And y'know ... it's their house ... their rules. And if DISNEY doesn't care how or when or where you wear a birthday or anniversary button, then why does it matter what anyone else says? (Particularly a bunch of strangers.) It's YOUR celebration. Get your buttons, wear them proudly, and enjoy!

:earsboy:

I"m sure cast members hate it. Can you imagine being at work and every time someone walks past you, you have to stop what you doing and say congratulations this, or happy that..
Everybody can make up some excuse to say your celebrating something to put on a button.
As my first post on this said, our friend wore a birthday button 8 days in a row. It clearly wasn't her birthday, everyday.
To me... I don't get what so special about making up excuses to put on a button?
If I did because everybody else was doing it, I would feel like something that was truely special to me became cheapened
I'm a cast member, and I don't hate it. I love telling someone "Happy Birthday" -- especially the ones who have totally forgotten they have on this big button that says "BIRTHDAY", because they look at me and say, "How did you know it was my birthday?" with big wide eyes. Cracks me up every time.

I like it that people put out there -- for the whole world to see -- what makes that day or week or vacation special. And I don't understand how me celebrating my birthday for five days in any way cheapens your celebration.

I figure if Disney can celebrate a "year" of a million dreams for 25 months, who am I do say that a birthday can only last a day?

Wear those buttons proudly, I say! And if I have to say "Happy Birthday" 600 times tomorrow, I promise to try and say it each time with equal enthusiasm! :thumbsup2

Your post makes me all sorts of happy... who cares about a couple selfish people who want to keep the happiness all to themselves? I wish there were more people in the world who just want to spread the magic like you! :goodvibes

Be careful, someone might "cheapen" your happiness by being happy too! THE HORROR! :lmao:

I think it stinks that you've never gotten a towel animal during ANY of those trips! Wow! I would have gladly given you some of ours.....our cleaning person at WL was a towel animal machine! lol

As far as the rest of your comment, I look at what you did as a one on one type of thing in terms of giving to one person and expecting/hoping for special treatment where wearing the buttons is asking for it from everyone. The tip you left to me also is like paying for your special treatment and its sad you didn't get it. I hope your room was at least extra extra clean!:confused3

That must be it, we haven't stayed at the WL yet! LOL Guess we have to plan another trip!

Careful what you wish for. You could end up with towel animals floor to ceiling, wall to wall if the right CM sees your note ...

The standard definition of an anniversary is meant to indicate a wedding.

Actually, Anniversary: the annual recurrence of a date marking a notable event

I know unmarried couples that have been together for years. Some as long as my parents, which is 38 years. Should they not be able to wear an anniversary button?

Agree totally, cricketgirl post was embarasing to read. :charac2:

...and while we are getting rid of the buttons, toss out the towel animal obsession also.:rolleyes1

Love it!
IMHO Anniversary button is meant to be for Wedding Anniversaries. Having said that, we celebrated our 15th Wedding Anniversary at Disney in 2007, we did not feel compelled to wear a button announcing it and did not tell a single CM. I get that you are caught up in the zeal of trying to make this a special trip for them and that is very sweet of you. It will be a great trip with or without the button.

Ohmygosh I so totally agree. If you think OUR lowly opinions matter that much in the course of our discussion, than you really shouldn't be on the boards. The one thing you need to realize right off the blocks in posting on a board of this size is that you really really REALLY need to have thick skin. There isn't much Pixie Dust in talking about ANY controversial subject.

Well if you do, ask for the wing where "Eloisa" is the mousekeeper. She was fantastic! When they unexpectedly moved us up to concierge level we asked if she could still do our room. She was amazing and the room was cleaner than any hotel room I've stayed in and for business I travel a ton! What a peach she was!!!!!

Wow this threat has become really silly.

As for WDSearcher ,if you really are a CM I would be very careful.
Giving answers as a CM on a public message board is a reason for Disney to fire you without notice.

I've seen this happen in real life so think about it.

I remember not too many months ago there was a poster on the Universal board. Claimed to be an employee of one of the onsite hotels. Don't know if it was an actual employee or a new poster trying to be funny, but this poster definitely had all sorts of advice on how to get special treatment such as passing a $20 at the check-in counter in the hopes of getting a free upgrade. Was not long before the advice stopped and the poster disappeared.

Love it!

That's my point too!
Seem like i'm being condemned by a few others for not agreeing.
Funny since, one or two are agruing that everyone should be included in everything. But i guess I'm not. :confused3

Might I also suggest this thread has reached it's end and should be closed?
I have no hard feeling to anyone's thought or comments but fear some comments are becoming a little too angry and a bit political. IMHO.

To the OP, I think WDW could care less whether its a "traditional" anniversary or not. They will give you a button without explanations.

That said, I do think it diminishes the "value" (for lack of a better term) of those couples who have been legally married for "x" number of years.

I do think its different, and more special, for a married couple celebrating their 20th, 25th, etc., than two young people celebrating months or even years of "commitment".

Amen!
I can't imagine dating for years and years and not getting married anyway:confused3

Wear the button! My actual wedding anniversary is a few weeks after our trip. I explained that when booking my trip when they asked if we were celebrating anything special. I said, "We are going to WDW to celebrate 15 years of marriage. However our actual date does not fall within our week there." Know what she said, "Wow! 15 years is great. You should celebrate that every day this year!" It made me feel very special, and she doesn't even know me.

Personally, I don't care if you wear 42 buttons. I don't care if you walk around with those birthday cake hats on your head and your actually birthday was three months ago. You are in Walt Disney World! Not everyone is lucky enough to visit on the actual date of their event.

I don't care if everyone in the restaurant is getting a free dessert and I don't get anything. I will wear my button with the pride of knowing that I got married at a young age, and despite the odds, am still married 15 years later!

If you are celebrating the anniversary your first tooth fell out, your first date, your dating anniversary, the first time you ate a pear, it will not bother me. I tend to just focus on my family when I am at the World.

:goodvibes
