Dee's Atkins Journel-comments welcome

Ok, I can't get it together. I followed my meal plan yesterday and then last night I ate 3 more morningstart bars. I wasn't hungry, I wanted a treat. I just didn't care about the diet, I wanted these bars.
The positive is at least I'm not eating high carb food. I realize that I need to focus. But I just can't, could this all be from T.O.M? I'm going to allow myself to eat these bars today, and I will regroup to start strict again on Thursday. Maybe if I give myself a day with no pressure, the cravings will go away. Or maybe I'll just get disgusted with myself.
For as many bars as I have been eating, it's a wonder I haven't gotten a belly ache.

Todays menu:
Breakfast: Philly Cheesesteak
Snack Morning start bar
Lunch Chicken & Jello
Dinner: chicken & cheese

Snack Morning start bar

I tried to do sit ups yesterday, it's harder that I thought with this extra weight. I didn't want to hurt my back, so I did 25 touching my toes while standing up.
Today excercise will be 50 touching toes.

I feel a little more in control today then yesterday. So I'm hoping I can stay away from the low carb treats. I've been a little out of control since Mothers day. This is the start of my third week of induction, last week I lost nothing due to all the low carb bars I ate. Here is todays plan.
Breakfast 2 pieces of string cheese
Lunch Lettuce 2 more pieces of string cheese
Dinner Steak
Snack Jello

Excercise: touch toes 50X

Dee, I'm so worried that you aren't eating enough food. Please check how many calories you're eating a day - I fear you are WAY under the 1200 calorie minimum. If you eat too little, your body will go into starvation mode and hang onto that extra weight, instead of letting it go.

If you aren't getting enough calories, I suggest adding in some good fats, like mayonnaise, butter. You can also eat some meat with a little more fat in it - your italian sausage is a good example. I also suggest you find some low-carb veggies that you like - you truly do need them and most veggies taste better with real butter.

And, while I'm in Mom-mode :p , are you taking a multivitamin?? Try to take one, OK?? Use Morton's lite salt for the potassium it contains or start eating pork chops (loaded with potassium).

If your sweet tooth is really getting to you, there are several suggestions. Some people buy those chocolate low-carb shakes and just take a sip or two to help with chocolate / sweet cravings. Some people use Crystal Light or Kool-Aid flavored with Splenda instead of sugar.

You're doing a great job sticking with your plan - I know it's hard!! You've got to hang in there!

:flower1: :flower1: CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING TO ONEDERLAND!!! :flower1: :flower1:

Looks like we'll be at Disney World around the same time! Let me know if you'd like to meet up somewhere!

Hi there. I don't do Atkins but what about some strawberries/whipping cream or sugarfree popsicles/gum for your sweet tooth. Maybe those would be better for the cravings.....?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Darlene, Trust me, I have no problem with Motherly advise. No I haven't been taking a vitamin. I know that is bad. I'm planning to pick some up, but I just keep forgetting.

Vacation is not far off now. I'm excited, so are the kids and Husband. We will be at the Hard Rock 6/18-6/23, then the Poly 6/23-6/28. Are these dates while you are there?

Dee

Dee, we leave for home early on the 25th, so any time on the 23rd or 24th works for me!

Dee, you need more food, baby. Believe me, I've been there, done that and wrecked my metabolism in the meantime. You have to eat to burn fat. On Atkins (or South Beach or other low-carb plans) you should never be hungry. Sometimes you might even have to remind yourself to eat something. But you should never be hungry.

With any eating plan you have to do exactly that - PLAN. I'm lucky my DH (whose unemployed right now) does most of our cooking and shopping. We talk about what we want to eat for the week on the weekend and then we get the food for the week. We do the prep work for green salads a couple times a week and even will cut up fresh veggies to steam and portion them out as well. We weigh and measure all the carb portions - 2 cups of salad greens, 1 cup of other veggies. I weigh out snacks of nuts and package up 1 oz. baggies. My main protein portions are usually about 4-6 oz. I try to stay away from the bars and shakes unless I'm on the run and then they are a last resort. Low-carb bread & wraps, on the other hand, are a great source of fiber and using them sparingly is a nice treat.

My DH is also eating low-carb (but he actually needs more carbs/day than I do and can lose weight steadily on about 3x the carbs that I lose weight on.) Consider feeding your family exactly the way you feed yourself - just up the portion sizes for your DH - use fresh fruit for deserts. Its way too hard, IMHO, to fix two sets of meals on a daily basis and then always being tempted to cheat on the stuff everyone else is eating. This is not just a "diet" - it is a way of eating for good health for life.

I try to eat something every 2-3 hours. I find that spreading my meals out all day long not only keeps me from wanting something not good for but really keeps my energy level steady.

I'm very glad that you've started excercising...this was a hard habit for me to get into. I now walk 40 minutes/day, 5-7 times a week. If I don't get my walk in, I now find that I miss it terribly and don't feel very well the rest of the day.

Dee, you can do this. We're all here to help.

Hi Laurie,
I had been using the wraps before I started induction. But I gave them up because I was afraid of stalling while on induction. Do you think they are ok? The ones that I have are 3 grams of carbs.

Hi Darlene,
We will be at Disney those dates. As we get closer maybe we can figure out a place to meet. We are also going to be there for Halloween. My second goal is to lose about 30LBS by then.

Any sugestions on vitamins? Have you tried the Carbsmart by one-a-day?

Dee

I did good last night. I did change my dinner a bit. I had a roast beef and cheese sub, without the roll. So that's roast beef, cheese, onion, lettuce & tomato. I'm not sure of the carb count, but I'm sure it was around 20 grams.

Today's menu:

Breakfast: 4 slices of bacon
Snack salami & cheese
Lunch: More salami & cheese
Dinner: turkey & cheese
snack Jello

I forgot to excercise last night!
I'll try situps again tonight, along with 50 touching toes.

Dee

Here are my weekend plans.
Make Parm fried chicken, so have extra for snacks

Make wings, I follow the recipe on "Franks red hot sauce" This hot sauce is 0 carb and the wings come out very good. I do cook the wings a long time in the oven so that they are crispy, and they are a great snack or meal.

I'll be busy with my 8 year olds baseball games this weekend, so I may not be able to check in again until Monday. I will weigh in Monday just to see if the weight dropped at all.
AT last check in Thursday was still 197. Here is hoping I get to 195 by Thursday:hyper:

Dee

Dee:

Don't forget your veggies and salad greens! You are doing much better on food quantity but your tummy is going to be really upset if you don't get some green vegetables and some salad in you.

Remember each oz. of cheese is at least 1 carb (or more depending on the type). And an oz. isn't very much cheese - so watch how much you grab for snacks or that will put you over your induction limit too.

The key to sticking with a low-carb plan is variety...do some experimenting...try some new things like spaghetti squash as the "pasta" in your favorite italian dish or make up some chicken cordon bleu using parmasan cheese as your breading instead of breadcrumbs.

Foodtv.com has just listed some really great low-carb recipes (new show called Low-carb and Lovin' It - I watched it today and it had some great ideas).

Keep up your hard work.

I ate allot of food this weekend.I did get in green beans, salad with tomatoes, lettuce and onion. I went way over on my cheese allowance too.

I weighed in fully expecting not to lose anything because of eating so much. I lost 1LB. so I'm down to 196. That makes my total loss at 20Lbs. Even though I fell a little short of my mini goal of 195 by today, I am very happy to have lost. I'm moving that 195 goal up to this Thursday. Thursday marks 1 week with no low carb treats.

Dee

Here is todays plan:

Breakfast: 4 slices of bacon
snack: 1 hot sausage
Lunch: 2 little pork chops
Dinner: Chicken with cheese & geen beens with butter
snack: cheese

First the possitive...my Mother in law, who never has a nice thing to say to anyone, asked me if I was losing weight! She is the first person to say anything. I've lost 20lbs and no one has really noticed.
Well I have to go shopping because I'm running low on food that I can eat. So todays meals are a little boring:

Breakfast: 3 chicken tenders with parm cheese coating
Snack: jello
Lunch: 4 chicken tenders with parm coating
Dinner: Fried green peppers and eggs

I had one small slip up last night. While I was eating my chicken, my sons ice Tea was next to my plate. I thought it was my diet soda and I took a big sip. Since I'm 3 weeks into induction, it shouldn't matter.
I'm starting to crave different things in my diet, like BBQ. I'm going to pick up that "carb wise" BBQ sauce. I really don't care for the Atkins brand BBQ.

Dee

Ok, I've been weighing myself everyday. I hate to do that, but I seem obsessed with losing.
I'm down to 195!!! That's 21 total. Still it seems that no one is noticing. Today is Wednesday, My next goal is 193 by Monday.
This is my menu today

Breakfast: 4 slices bacon
2 eggs with fried green pepper
Lunch 2 small pork chops

Snack: 1 small pork chop

Dinner: 10 wings with Blue cheese for dipping

Snack 6 wings with Blue cheese

I lost it a little last night. I bought Tyson's frozen wings that were listed as 1 gram of carb per six. The wing's were not good. They were very fatty. Normaly I make my own wings, but I really didn't feel like it last night. I ended up trashing the wings. I had very little for dinner. So then I went out with my 8 year old to a carnival down the street. I avoided the funnel cake and all the goodies. When I came home I ate 1/2 a container of cool whip. I checked the keto stick this morning and it is still purple, so hopefully that slip doesn't hurt.
Here is todays meal Plan:

Breakfast: 2 hot italian sausage
Lunch: wings(not Tyson, these are store bought from a deli and
pretty good. not sure of the carb content, I'll
estimate it at 8 grams)
Snack: 1 piece hot italian sausage
Dinner: Peppers & eggs

Dee

Dee - you are doing great!

Don't feel bad about no one noticing...they will. The main thing is do you see a difference when you look in the mirror, the way your clothes are fitting and how you feel?

Your hard work and dedication are really paying off. Keep your chin up!

-Laurie:sunny:

I slipped a little last night. I was so stressed out with my Husband, I finished a container of cool whip, about half full. Then about 2 hours later I opened another container and ate about a third. I threw myself out of ketosis.
**when I came home from work, I asked my 8 year old where my 18 month old was. He said he didn't know. I didn't see my husband anywhere, but I figured he was cutting the grass because I could hear the lawn mower. So I went outside and found my husband cutting grass on the nieghbors lawn as a favor. He left the baby in our yard asleep in a swing (one that ties to a tree) the baby wasn't belted in and was completely out of his sight for lord knows how long. This swing is maybe 4 feet off of the ground, so falling would have been bad. We have a big yard, so it wasn't like he was even near by. Well, I was upset! The baby could have fallen out and no one was around to help him.
Well the fight between me and dear husband continued. I'm still mad, mostley because of Husbands bad attitude.

Today meals plan:
Breakfast: 4 slices of bacon
Lunch: peppers & eggs
Dinner Italian sausage

Snack 2 beers at carnival tonight
& wings
I know I'm cheating. But I'm meating my family tonight, and I'm going to treat myself to 2 beers and wings.
Later I'll post my weekend plans.

Dee

Weekends have been a little tough. I tried to prepare as much food as possible on the weekends. This weekend I'm planning to take it easy with cooking, mostly because I have allot of running around to do.

Saturday's plan:
Breakfast: bacon
Lunch: cheese and a few wings with blue cheese
Dinner: inside of italian hoagie

Sunday
Breakfast: Bacon
Lunch: Cucumber salad
Dinner: inside of italian hoagie.

I plan to make parm chicken for the week, to have to snack on.
Monday will be weigh in. My goal is 193, but since I threw myself out of ketosis with eating too much whip cream, I have a feeling I won't lose, but I can be hopeful.

Dee

I'm sorry you threw yourself out of ketosis. Men can be so stupid sometimes. At least you just ate cool whip. I would have made myself a sundae! ;)

Hey Dee,

Just started reading your thread. Losing weight is hard work! I know where you are coming from about noone noticing you weight loss. Alot of times people who you see all the time don't notice because it is so gradual.

I had a great experience last night at Relay for Life. There were alot of people there that I hadn't seen since last years RFR. I've lost 69 lbs since then. I received compliment after compliment. What a great feeling!

My point is stick to your guns and people will notice! It may simply take more pounds and time!

Nice to meet you!

The incredible shrinking one!
