Deer Hunting...What do you think?

I shot my first deer last week - 190 pound 10 point buck on a managed ranch. I'm doing a mount and ended up with 75 pounds of processed meat I'll be eating over the next year or so! Good thing I love red meat! Would it make a difference to you if you took the game yourself? As a kid I had problems with chickens and pigs I helped "harvest" but now it seems to taste a little sweeter.

Personally, I can't stand it. However, DH does hunt deer (gun and bow) and although I don't like it, I know he loves it and I don't give him a hard time. The population around here has gotten ridiculously out of control and he always gives away the meat so there is no "waste". Between you and me ( ;) )... it kills me thinking about it :guilty:

No thanks. I can deal with fish I've caught, but I would not want to kill my own mammal. I'm just too squeamish. :teeth:

All of my cousins hunt but it isnt for me.

I dont have a problem with others doing it but I dont want to.

To each their own.

:rotfl2: 20bucks ( no pun intended, ok maybe I did intend :rotfl2: :rotfl2: )anyway, 20 does, this thread gets nasty by the time I go to bed :rotfl2: By the way, my DH is a hunter.

:confused3 What was your question? :confused3

I don't think I'll ever get the "thrill" of taking a life but to each their own.

I understand your question. I think. I dont hunt, but I have a veggie garden, and yes, I think it tastes better just because I harvested it.

My husband is across the street right now cutting up his friends deer. I personally don't like the taste of deer meet, and have never hunted, but my dh loves it. So much in fact that he bought 500 acres upstate ny with his 3 brothers. He can keep the hunting, i'll take the beach in the summer!

As long as you use all of it, I have no problem with hunting. I could never do it myself, I can't even bring myself to fish.

My hubby is a big hunter but will only harvest a deer if it is a wall hanger; then we will have the meat processed and eat it during the year.

I used to hunt myself, but have decided it isn't for me. The reason it is NOT for me, is because I have NO desire to get out of my warm, snuggly bed at 4:00 am in the morning and lug a huge climbing stand to my tree of choice in 30 degree temps! I'll just live vicariously through his deer..... :teeth:

This is me exactly! I can't stand it, but DH loves it. I am sure there could be worse hobbies he could be doing, so mostly I let it go. I am concerned about when he wants to start taking our DS's (5 & 2) now. The 5y/o has no desire yet, but his 7 year old friend just got an 8 pt. deer last weekend, so I'm assuming the time is coming in a few years.

I am a complete hypocrite. I could never shoot a deer, or any other living thing, nor butcher a pig or cow or chicken. But i can sure eat 'em if you do.

I don't like it, but if you're going to eat the meat or whatever it's ok. At least you're using it. But all the idiots up here that are like, "Dur dur dur, lets go shoot me some deer and then throw it on that there road" make me sick.

I grew up with a dad who hunts (still does) and fishes (still does too)..
I think - if you USE the meat for food.. Then, i can tolarate it, but, i DON'T understand those who do it just for "fun"........ All of our ancestors did it - to feed themselves, so i say for food is ok, but not for thrills.
Personally, i LOVE those cute lil' guys, and i would NEVER be able to do it myself.. ugh.. the thought!!!

For some reason this is one of the things i really want to do someday, go hunting. I have no idea why cuz this was never a family thing and i think id be pretty freaked out at night if i had a deer staring at me, but i want one..lol I guess i should see if i like deer meat first, i would hate for it to go to waste.

My friends neighbor just bought 450 acres in Alabama. He loves it and loves the 450 but his wife...ugh she hated it, they went for the first time i think(i know its recent taht they got it) during t-giving and she wasnt to thrilled..lol
