I had my heart set on baking a spectacular turkey this year, but we're running out of oven space because of all the other things I need to bake. My dh went out and got a turkey fryer and wants to fry my beloved bird! Has anyone had their turkey this way? Is it any good? It's just not a Thanksgiving dinner to me without a turkey I've slaved over for hours, but my dh is all excited about frying the turkey. :confused3

Everyone that I know that has had turkey prepared this way says that it is the best!!!!! But be careful, turkey fryers can be dangerous!!!!!

We often have fried turkeys for holidays and honestly prefer them! They are so juice and the crispy outside is just wonderful. Make sure you check the fry time on the directions that should come with the fryer to make sure you cook it correctly. ENJOY!

After our first fried turkey we never went back to the oven. It's the best! :wave2: :p

IT IS FABULOUS!!

In fact, I don't really care much for roasted turkey, but I chow down on deep fried turkey! The white meat is so juicy, and the skin is crispy.

I don't know much about the logistics of turkey frying, but it results in the BEST turkey I have ever had. In fact, my DH (who is very picky) LOVES it.

I have been making them that way for years. We love them. It is pretty easy to do. Use peanut oil , 3 1/2 min per pound with the oil at 375. One real important thing. Before you fry the bird (and it is still in the wrapping that it came from the store in) put it in the empty pot and start to fill the pot with water. Fill until the water covers the bird(you may have to hold it under). take the turkey out and mark the level of the water. That mark will show you how much oil to use and will keep you from over filling the pot and having an overflow. I would marinate the turkey for several hours with the injectable type of marinade. Be sure your turkey is dry before you dunk it in the oil to keep it from popping real bad. Hope you enjoy it. :teeth:

Ok, I feel better about it now. I really have a wonderful roasting recipe I wanted to use, but now my dh is all cheesy excited about frying it. I guess we'll try it and see how it comes out!

WOW - glad I read this!
my in-laws are frying the turkey tomorrow -
and I was thankful that they were doing a spiral hom too -
but I quess it will all be good ;)

Don't burn down the house or the garage. And don't spill hot peanut oil on yourself. Make sure the turkey will fit in the hot oil pan and that it's not too big. Good luck. The results should be worth it.

We have ordered a fried turkey from a restaurant around here. I always have to prepare two turkeys and run out of space. I am really excited to try it!

We love this! We actually deep fry a turkey in the summer as we use the fryer outside. It tastes really good this way.

This is making me hungry! My friend is having that, never tried it.

These sound so yummy, but I've never had one. Enjoy!

Ummm... does it surprise you that we have a turkey fryer and do this all the time, Suzanne?

My DH will take it sometimes on Scout camporees - the boys love it!
