Dan's family seemed very nice, I heard them talking about growing up and other things. It was good to see he will be remembered warmly by many.

It is hard to know what to say sometimes and some just don't think of people other than themselves. Too bad they couldn't have been there for you when you needed them.

Robin, I am so sorry for what you are going through. I usually try not to say too many things to people in these situations because I tend to mess up and inadvertantly say the wrong thing myself. But I have to say that the things you listed don't sound like innocent mistakes but rather mean spirited things, and I don't do that.

I'm so sorry about your loss. After my son died (at age18) I felt like I could write a book on the stupid/insensitive things people said. Even now someone will ask how long has it been and I'll reply 6 years and they reply..."oh so your over it now then good" HELLO I will NEVER be over it!!!
On another note though Robin I loved your penny story so much that when my FIL died on Sunday and I had to tell his precious granddaughter (my 7 year old) that her papa had died I told her your penny story. I hope that was okay, she really liked it, I put a penny in her lunchbox yesturday and she came home all excited about her "penny from grandpa in heaven"! So thank you for that small bit of comfort to her.
I hope in time that your heart will heal around the hole in it.

I learned how stupid people can be when my parents died suddenly. I guess people don't know what to say, and instead of saying nothing, they feel the need to open their mouths and let it spill anyway. Sorry you had to deal with such insensitivity during this hard time.
