I was using the points calculator on the DVC member site.
When it comes time to select the room type at BLT I get the STD, Lake, and MK view rooms but there is also a STD-Dedicated, Lake - Dedicated, MK - Dedicated. What does the dedicated mean?

example - a two bedroom is really a one bedroom plus a studio (in a lockoff). The studio and one bedroom can be utilized by two different families and each has its own entrance from the hallway with a connecting door inside that can also be locked off. A dedicated two bedroom only has a single entrance and cannot be split into a one bedroom and studio.

Dedicated is referring to room type. A dedicated 2-bedroom villas has a real second bedroom. A non-dedicated (aka lockoff) is a 1-bedroom villa and a studio with a connecting door. The studio is counted as the second bedroom.

A dedicated 2 bedroom has 2 Q beds in the second bedroom, that's a plus in my book!

Basically in a dedicated 2BR you are getting 2 queen beds in the 2nd bedroom and no kitchenet.

Now I'm wondering if the next DVC change is a point difference between dedicated and lock-offs.

Why would DVC bother to list them separately in the calculator when the points are the same? :scared1:

What are the inherent floorplan differences between a dedicated and a lock-off? Is there an advantage of one over the other? Does one have more space or a better layout than the other?

I think because it's a type of villa and not a request. I usually book a dedicated 2 bedroom.

We bought in '03, at BWV and although they had diagrams, of the types of villas in the major books then, I completely missed the idea that there were no dedicated 2 bedroom villas at BWV. I am not sure it would have made a difference, because I did like the standard view point. However, if the types of 2 bedrooms had been listed, I would have understood more clearly what we were buying.

I know that at BCV and VWL there can be no "inherent" floorplans because there are variants. At BCV some dedicated 2 bedrooms don't have the room for the 2nd queen in the second bedroom, and at VWL, the 2 bedrooms in the atruim corners are different than the ones in the halls.

We liked the 2 bedroom dedicated in the hall area of VWL because in the second bedroom the dressing area, by the sink, (where there would be the entrance) is huge. We were able to set up the pack and play for the youngest DGC there and it was almost like a little bedroom for her. This was good for 2-3 visits, eventually she outgrew the pack and play and shares one of the q beds now.

In OKW, all of the 2 bedrooms have 2 queens in the second bedroom, so if that's what you want, with the entrance for the people in the studio, then that layout would be best.
