I am getting ready to book my familys first "welcome home" at BLT for next Nov. I am trying to decide whether to book a dedicated 2 bedroom or a lock-off. A concern in the back of my mind is that my sister, who is going with us will back out leaving us with a portion of our room we wont use. If this happened and we had a lock off would DVC let us just cancel the 2 bedroom and just get the one bedroom leaving a studio available?

Besides the extra kitchenette and the bed setups is there a benefit to booking either one?

Thanks

Nope, you can't cancel part of a villa. When you book a two bedroom it is a two bedroom whether it is dedicated or a lockoff. You can't just drop the studio. You'd have to cancel and rebook - if anything was still available.

You'd have to book a studio and one bedroom separately and hope they could connect to drop the studio portion of your reservation. And you will use more points doing this instead of booking a two bedroom.

Friends and family that you invite have to be told that the reservation can't be changed and you will lose money if they decide at the last minute not to go.

The lock off has it's own AC/heat control, Internet connection, and front door.

Make them pay their way now and state "no refunds". If they decline the invitation, they were just using you and they were going to probably cancel latter anyway.

If I thought someone was going to cancel, I would only book what I know my family will use and inform the someone that when they are sure, that's when I book for them. This means that they may not get the villa.

We too may be booking next Nov in a 2BR with family and are wondering the differences in lockoff vs dedicated. So the 2nd BR in ded has 2 queen beds while in lockoff it has 1 queen and sleeper sofa?

When I booked our 2004 BCV visit during F&W I reserved a 2bdrm and requested a lockoff for my sister and her husband. I wanted them to have the kitchenette for their privacy in the mornings. However, when we checked in, we were given a dedicated (no kitchenette..double sink in the bath area). I called to question, but they said nothing else was available. I was annoyed because I had made the plans and had promised them this exclusive space... but it all worked out and they still had their privacy... he would just come into the kitchen and make their breakfast and take it back into their area so they could get ready while they ate. The plus of the dedicated is a very nice sized extra closet where the connecting door of the lockoff would be.
