Our son and daughter in law have decided to join us for our Jan vacation. We switched our studio at AKV ( we will check that out on another trip) to a 2 bdrm at OKW. My reservation on the DVC website says a dedicated 2 bdrm but I thought they were all a 1 bdrm plus a studio? What is the difference for all of you OKW veterans. This will only be our second time staying at OKW and the first time was in a studio. We are looking forward to the extra room. TIA

There are no dedicated 1BR or Studios at OKW. All rooms (except the GV's) are either dedicated 2BR, or 1BR+Studio=2BR Lockoff. As such, they try to give anyone wanting a 2BR a dedicated room, leaving the others for folks wanting 1BR or studios.

Dedicated 2 bedrooms will have one outside door to the unit. The second bedroom will have another closest instead of the kitchenette in a studio.

The second closet is huge (nearly big enough for a little kid's room) and you will also have a second bathroom sink area outside the bathroom where the kitchen sink would be. No patio/porch on the second bedroom either for dedicated 2 bedrooms. If you request a two bedroom at OKW, you usually get a dedicated two bedroom instead of a one bedroom plus studio unless you specifically request that.

Or unless all the dedicateds are gone when you reserve.

Well, first of all, be prepared to kiss your studio days goodbye. Once you've tried a one or two bedroom, there's no going back!!

Unless you need a second outside entrance for privacy or a separate kitchenette, I'd recommend a dedicated two bedroom unit. The extra entry and the hallway needed for it along with the separate kitchenette really chew up a lot of space.

Also be aware that midway through building Old Key West they made a design change so that if anyone is using the sofa in the living room as a bed, they can get to the master bathroom through the utility room. Others can tell you which buildings have which configuration. This has never made a difference to us but it might for others.

Ok, having a blonde moment, but is there a door or something to block the privacy of the 2nd bedroom.

We are thinking of going the 2bedroom route and bringing my dad and stepmom. Hubby and I will take the master bedroom, our boys will get the sleeper sofa and dad/stepmom will get the 2nd bedroom. They might like some privacy :teeth: is that possible?

There are doors on both bedrooms!

Not sure if all dedicated 2 bdrms are the same, but ours was a huge central area with living room area/kitchen area/dining area. The main bedroom was off one side and the the 2nd bedroom was off the other side. Totally separate and private, and huge!

Buildings 1-29 will have the access to the bathroom ONLY through the master bedroom. Buildings 30 and above have an additional access to the sink, toilet and shower through the laundry area. The bedroom can be locked off from the bathroom.

If you have people sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room area and do not wish for them to go through your bedroom to use the bathroom, this could be an issue. If you do not have anyone on the sofa bed, it is not a problem.
