Questions for past CP-ers: What are the rules about decorations in the apartments? Are we allowed to have them? I read something on here about only being allowed to have a bulletin board. Do they give us one or do we have to buy one/bring one with us? Are we allowed to hang the bulletin board up with a nail or do we need to use something that doesn't "damage" the wall in any way? TIA!!! :goodvibes

You are told when you get there that you must keep all of your stuff to one bulletin board per room. They do not supply you the bulletin board.

I don't think it matters how you mount it, as long as it isn't going to leave a huge mark on the wall. It might be better to use a nail or tack than mounting tape which may not come off or leave residue. A trick I learned in college when you are leaving for the year is to take white toothpaste and cover the holes. They aren't as noticeable. :)

You can probably get away with other things, I think a couple of my roommates had posters on the wall, but would take them down for inspections. I've heard extreme stories where someone had one calendar on the wall and was made to take it down. I would start out on the safe side following the rules and maybe you can see what you can get away with as far as decorating!

I wish they would change the apartments they show on the E-presentation. You can't mount clocks and paintings on your walls!

Well if they only allow one board, then they definitely should remove all the videos and pictures from the e-presentations so no one gets confused. There are some great pictures of the apartments on the Disney CS website that shows rooms with wall boards, pictures etc. The CP video presentation shows a room with really nice decorations. I was under the impression that as long as they weren't using nails, tacks or tape it would be acceptable. Sort of like college dorms where you could use the 3-M hangers that do not damage the wall. This makes me sad to know they won't be allowed to have much on the walls, those walls look so empty and bare and not very inviting.

What about Wall-Pops? Are they allowed at all?

I've heard a lot of people do this so I'll be risking it :thumbsup2

Just use some kind of sticky putty that will pop straight on and off the wall and there you go!

I KNOW!!! I say those and was like wow this is going to be soo much fun decorating the rooms I cant wait to go shopping for stuff :yay:. Why would they have that up on the internet when thats not at all what it really is?!?! That makes me kinda mad. I dont like ugly walls!!! :furious: haha

I actually have no idea what Wall-Pops are...are they the "window clings" for walls? I am using some now. I'm sure there WOULD be a problem if you had a strict inspector.

I understand where you are coming from, but unfortunately you just have to accept the blank walls. The rooms are tiny, so it made it a little less bad.

Wall pops are actually designed so they do not do any sort of damage to walls, especially ideal for college dorms:

are you kidding me? When did they make it a rule you can't have anything on the walls? I was there 2 1/2 years ago and we had stuff all over our walls. Park maps, posters, even strung up about 800 Christmas lights in the living room. Nobody said anything and security was at our apartment every night!

I think it was a recent rule. I heard that somebody effed up and ruined everything for everyone else.

does this apply to both DLR and WDW? I'll be going to DLR and was hoping to decorate for christmas and stuff :( plus I wanna hang up a few pictures

Thanks for the info guys! :thumbsup2 I too think it's odd that they show rooms with tons of decorations in the walls in the e-presentation...definitely false advertising if that's not allowed for more recent CP's! Then again, I think the e-presentation is more than a few years old, and they probably just haven't gotten the chance to redo it.

Anyway, I'm just going to bring a few things with me including a bulletin board, and not buy anything new til I get down there and see what the deal is. Worse case scenario I just put things up and take them down for inspections! ;)

I had stuff all over the apartment, as well. The only time we were told to take something down was some Christmas window decals that we had on our 3rd floor balcony doors. No one could even see then! Never understood that rule myself. :confused3

The only thing we were ever told to take down was towels we hung over the railing near our door in Vista. We'd go to the pool and come back and hang them there to dry. Security would cruise by in their little golf cart and tell us to take them down! never really understood that. They can be strict with certain rules that seem silly. I think the only thing we couldn't do were things like that and decorations in the window, but pics/posters hanging on the wall was fine. just one more rediculous rule i guess.

I'd like to know the story of what happened as to why it's banned now..? fire hazard maybe? I remember a friends apartment had beer boxes covering the entire living room lol

I head some things about Disney being really strict about keeping the apartments clean... do they mean just not having tons of stuff and enormous messes... or does that mean you have to make your bed perfectly every morning?

Probably has to be really clean. But only when they inspect it. It doesn't have to be clean every single morning.

They just want it organized, yet VERY clean.

We missed getting the "white glove" because apparently we hadn't vacuumed enough (which, I have NO idea what they saw on the ground, I saw nothing) and we forgot to clean around the stovetop and inside the microwave.

Oh, and inside the oven. The kitchen was definitely our weakest area!

Oh wow! But this is really only before the inspections, right? And are you told ahead of time when the inspections are?

Or do you need to keep it completely spotless every day just in case? *__*

We never had random inspections. If they do a random inspection, I'm guessing they assume that it may not be as clean as it would for a planned one. They give you a week or more notice and it's posted on a sign as you enter the complex (it was at Chatham at least).
