Decorating your resort room?

We are staying at the Kidani too. We always bring a very small table tree and decorate it. Never thought of hanging lights up. Great idea.
:santa:

So so SO excited!! I read this thread some months back and have been inspired for our Nov 26 - Dec 2 trip!

Went to Dollar Tree today and bought:
Red Disney Christmas themed wrapping paper to "wrap" our door
Green ribbon and a BIG green bow to tie up the door like a present
Christmas tree/jinglebells doorknob hanger
Four Christmas cups in a pack (we are always trying to make due with the little room supplied cups and these just make so much more sense, plus, festive!).
On a whim I grabbed some 10hr led "candles" (silver stars)
AND they had extension cords as well!

I scored at Arc and found three boxes of combination (large) color lights *and* icicle lights for a steal.

Still need to buy a set of 40 command hooks to hang the lights all over the room, as well as magnetic tape for the door.
Oh, also, found small trees for under $20 that we are deciding between (smaller and fiberoptics? or bigger and colored lights?).
Thinking about making some pomanders and bringing those to make the room smell lovely too!

We are going to bring just the tree, and let the items we inevitably purchase while there be the decoration around/on the tree itself.

Also, I wanted to make our outside decorations interactive ... so I came up with this !

A santa bucket filled with bells hanging outside the door, and a sign that says:

Do you believe in Santa?
In the magic of Christmas time?
As only true believers
can hear these bells chime.

The spirit of Christmas surely will grow.
So spread the sounds of the season
to everyone you know.

Please enjoy a bell.

---

At 16 bells for $1, I can easily bring over 100 bells with me! I love the idea of being part of someone else's magic on their holiday.

Looking forward to hearing more about all of your decoration plans!

We are arriving on the 3rd. If you read this before you come home, could I borrow your idea of the bells?

Planning a trip for the second week in May at POR. Anyone decorated there? Also, do we have window or magnetic door to work with?

I have been to the World several times, but this is the first time staying on site with my children and I want to make every part of it as amazing as possible!

Thanks for this thread. It has given me so many amazing ideas to help keep me from going crazy counting down the days until we leave!

Does any know how big the windows are at All Star Movies? length & width. I want to decorate my window and was wanting the size

You will have both a window and magnetic door to decorate. :)

I am not sure about the ASMovie thread - but you may want to check the info on the first few pages. I know they have the measurements listed for the POP windows on their thread - if all else fails you can get the measurements there - I know they are the same. :goodvibes

Hi all!!
I can't believe I'm finally saying this but this time next week, I'll be on my way out of Fantasmic and on my way to the Tower of Terror or RnR Coaster before finally getting to see what the AoA looks like!!

SO EXCITED.

I've been to Disney four times previous and stayed on property three of those times and I remember when we stayed at All Star Music being so interested in the fact that people took the time to decorate their windows.

After seeing a picture on twitter, I've decided that I'm doing this for me and my friends and we'll color on the plane on the way down :)

I have a few questions after reading this thread:
1) Everyone says no tape, why? I don't really see how it could be a problem. If we print out coloring pages is it that bad to tape them onto the window?
2) Are the doors at AoA Nemo suites magnetic as well?
3) Any ideas (we were thinking of cutting out each of our favorite characters, our names, and then a cute saying)?
4) I thought the idea of leaving messages on the doors being so cute. Any suggestions as to how to do that?

Thanks all!!

1. No tape because it leaves a residue - you cannot use anything that leaves anything behind (no tape - no tacks, pins or nails etc.). You cannot tape anything to the windows, doors or walls.
2. I would assume they are magnetic - all resort doors are. :)
3. The best thing to do - whatever you decide to decorate with - is to use suction cup hangers - you can stick them to the window and hang your decorations.
4. A lot of folks buy a magnetic dry erase board for the door. If you can't find a magnetic one - you can always buy a regular dry erase board then glue magnets to the back of it.

HTH! Have fun! :goodvibes

Could you remove the tape carefully? I get the tacks and pins. I just don't see how we'd be able to decorate any other way?

Baaah I had this 3/4 done and then my browser died!!! Makes me wish for autosave draft...
Okay. Starting over.

So. The Holidays were busy and then I caught the flu, so I am only now getting around to posting room decor photos --- better late than never :thumbsup2

So let's start with the door:
We wrapped it like a present!

Disney wrapping paper, with ribbon and a big bow!

For those of you wondering about the tape thing, it’s true. As we were hanging the wallpaper a cast member passed by and politely informed us that tape was not allowed. We told him it was magnetic tape (magnet on one side, tape on the other, in a regular tape dispenser GENIUS) and he was all … Okay cool!

There was also a sign and a bucket of jingle bells on the door…

I really wanted our display to be interactive, with something for passerbys to keep and remember. So I came up with this setup!
The sign is part borrowed and part original. Bonus points for anyone who gets the reference!!

Alright on to the window…

Combo big/icicle lighta hung with two command hooks (surprisingly simple)
Merry Christmas, snowflakes etc gel clings
Katie’s and my first ever stockings as a couple (suction hooks). We have cuter ones now, but I can’t get rid of these!
Two Christmas themed dry erase boards hung with suction hooks. One Cars, one Princess
On the sill is my very favorite tiny Santa in a sleigh!
On the table is a festive table cloth (that made such a huge difference it was crazy!)
Our teeny tiny perfect for travel $2 Christmas Tree!
Our favorite Disney Friends – Duffy (mine) and Figment (Katie’s)
Some LED candles shaped like stars
And the book is The Autobiography of Santa Claus – I brought this so that I could ask Santa to sign it when I met him at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party!

Here is the whole setup from a bit down the hall..

We never worried about remembering which room was ours :D

Inside the room!
Here there isn’t much at all. I wanted to hang more lights along the head boards and over/around the TV stand … but Katie was making fun of me so I put the massive amount of lights away..haha
I did get a couple things though!

Happy Holidays banner hung with tiny command hooks.

On our first or second day, we bought the Christmas throw (one of those “Spend x amount of money and buy something more for X amount of money!). I love the throw SO much. It also made one of my favorite parts of the room:
72339137736558967_JYFseLro_c.jpg

Blanket + two hotel room chairs = pretend couch! LOVE it!!

That is all of the actual room décor.

Here is one other thing we did that made me smile, and made things SUPER easy.
I wanted everything except spending money to be paid in full before we left. We had the hotel and dining plan – but of course there is tipping to be considered into the equation. So before we left, I wrote a simple thank you note (wish I had gotten a picture of the actual note!) that said “Thanks for making our day a little more magical!” and signed it. Inside the envelope was cash tip. I figured how much we should tip based on anticipated check costs .. and this was a lifesaver. I felt so cool whipping out a cute little note to leave on the table! I hope our servers liked it ☺

And of course ... on for Mousekeeping!
72339137736558802_pwWkzAFV_c.jpg

It was so much fun!!! Katie's parents were there, and we didn't tell them anything about room decor, and they just LOVED it. Katie's Dad actually mentioned that it reminded him of his Mom -- score for me!

Morals of the decor story:
Tape -- Def a No No.
Magnetic tape - completely awesome
Suction hooks - Okay for light hold
Command hooks - amazing for EVERYTHING.

Happy decorating!

Alison, that was brilliant! Loved the use of the table with the festive table cloth and "candles" - so cozy! Even the doormat is a special touch. And I'm loving your tip envelopes. Well done! Thank you so much for sharing. :)

Oh Allison, I just love your window setup and the door with the bells---that is so festive and fun!! Thank you for taking the time to post all of the great pictures, it looks like you and Katie were really in the holiday spirit. I was just at WDW with my husband, daughter and parents Dec. 31-Jan. 6, 2013 and we saw so many cute windows still decorated as well. One window (OK, and the room too, my mom and I peeked in) was decorated with lights, an entire Disney Christmas village set up, both beds made up with holiday flannel sheets and Disney blankets (instead of the yucky, heavy POP bedspreads), tons of Disney holiday decorations like light-up Mickey snowmen . . .we got a ton of ideas for our next trip!

When we decorate our window, we always include a "DIS" reference. This year we're placing this placard in our windows (Our clan will have rooms in several of the resorts). :goodvibes:woohoo:

523333_475527615844299_926599114_n.png

So I always decorate our room at WDW(and this year I am going to make up some Dis decos),i ship down a separate box with our Decos. So If you are staying at a NON Disney Hotel do you still decorate your room,or think its over kill?, i am planning to do just this when we do out summer venture to DL.

This time around, were adding something new to our window display. With the abundance of Smart Phones around with QR code readers. We're adding a QR Code sign to our display. It'll look like the one below. Once scanned, it'll take the user to our Facebook page.

What do you think?

Are the doors at CSR metal? Wanna know if the dry erase board will stick. This will be our first stay at a moderate. Gonna get the Mickey heads from Home depot this time. Count down to July 1st!!!

First time decorator here!
I really want to decorate...sounds so much fun!

I want to decorate my door and windows for my Birthday trip March 6-12.
My birthday is the 11th.

Problem is that I am not Artistic or Crafty :(
I was not born with those genes

I like the dry erase board idea for the door.
I'm travelling solo, by air, checking 2 bags, so I have to limit what I'm going to take with me...can anyone give me any other creative ideas?

suggestions are MUCH appreciated!

Do not have to be creative, just go with your feel its all about you and what makes you happy. Get stuff don to your resort, i ship mine down there to the resort(Ohh POP century, the greatest resort In the world::yes::!!! LOL just saying:rotfl2:, of course just my opinion:cool1:) along with anything else I can not fit in my Bags.

I did not read through all of these posts (no time, we ar leaving in a few hours for POFQ) so I am not sure if this was already discussed. For Christmas my kids received markers that are specifically for windows, do you think they could use them in our room or would that not be a good idea? TIA!

Has long as you clean the windows before you leave, it should be ok.
