I am beginning the process of redecorating. I ordered living room furniture today; neutral beige and white. Plan to add color with area rugs, pillows, pictures, etc. My dining room is adjacent to the living room and is separated by double french doors. While it isn't the "same" room, I would like it to at least "not clash". I have decided to go with oriental rugs...I think. I don't want to spend a lot in case I want to redecorate before another 20 years rolls around.;) Anyway, how do you coordinate oriental rugs. I saw a pretty one on overstock.com that I liked. [
If I put that in the living room for example, what would one put in the dining room? :confused3

sorry, can't get it to link

You can mix and match oriental rugs-that's what I love about them. Pastels, deep colors, different patterns -if you're not comfortable doing it that way, then try to match background colors

thanks,

Since the rugs are in different rooms they don't really need to 'match' but I am probably like you and want them to coordinate. We had a living room open to our dining room in our old house and what our decorator said to do was to use rugs with the same or similar colors. The rug we had in the livingroom had a black background with tan, brick red and a green that went with our furniture. She suggested getting a rug with a tan/off-white background with some black/red in it. If you get the same rug for both rooms it will look too busy I think.

At Lowes I found several rugs that were made by the same manufacturer that had the same colors but different designs with maybe a slightly different color thrown in. I love the way they coordinate with each other and the rugs are holding up really well. You might try that.. I think they have a lot to see on the Lowes website.

I have two very different rugs in dining room and living room. One is formal, one casual. I think they work because they share colors - the formal one is mainly red with some beige and green and the casual one is beige with red and green accents.

Good luck and have fun! :)

My in-laws bought several silk Oriental Rugs on ebay a few years ago. They got some great deals on high quality rugs. They went by size, as opposed to colors and they blend splendidly.
