Decorating my magic band?

My apologies is this is the wrong board, but I've seen many posts about MB on this board, so I took a wild guess. I've seen online where many people have decorated Their magic bands (using many different things) and since I've never used a MB before I don't know if this is typical, or even technically "allowed". Do CMs frown at the idea of decorating magic bands? Does it affect their functionality at all? Is it considered tacky??

Thanks!

not sure why CM's would frown upon it.
also not sure why it would be seen as "not allowed".
its your magic band do what you want with it.
personally i don't decorate mine because i'm not creatively crafty if that makes sense.
i wear it just how it comes.
if i want a design on it i buy one that comes tha way like the epcot figment one i bought last year.

I don't know why they would frown at it either, I just thought maybe it was like a "Either buy a decorated one from Disney or settle for the blank one" kind of deal.

My mom and I both decorated our magic bands with glittery nail polish and sharpie markers! 3 years later the decorations are still on and the magic bands work beautifully! Many people sell vinyls online (to stick on) or will even paint magic bands for you (if you have the time allotted for shipping). Hope you have a blast! :jester:

There is a whole long thread on this - search "decorated magic bands" and you should find it. I've had multiple CMs compliment our decorated bands so you will be fine. Follow the tips on the thread I mentioned searching for - people have tried a lot of different things and have great advice! If you don't want to search, I talk about the thread and have a link to it in my pre-trip report (click the link in my signature)

I always use nail polish. We have a lot of fun decorating our bands and always get compliments from the Cast Members!

This thread has a ton of tips and ideas
I decorated one of mine with a combination of nail polish and acrylic paint, and it's still good 9 months later

Most people won't even notice, and those who do generally express excitement

As far as functionality, the Mickey head in the center of the band is the only thing you need to worry about as it need to be able to touch the reader, and metal interferes with its ability to scan (so no foil backed gems on that part)

Thanks for the link! And I knew there was something about the Mickey head, wasn't sure if painting over it or whatever would affect it, but just to be safe I'll probably go around it!

Always better to be safe than sorry if you are concerned, but paint should be just fine!

We painted over ours with multiple layers of nail polish and added glitter and had no trouble at all.
