Decorating Doors

OK I have to ask, WHY do you decorate your door?
Because we can... ;)

I'm not spending my vacation time putting stuff on and off the door. How silly.
Good for you... :thumbsup2

The time I spent creating them helped me harness the excitement of anticipation that drove me crazy during the weeks leading up to the cruise, and the 10 minutes or so that it took to actually put them up was well repaid by the pleasure my son took in seeing them and recognizing our door every time we came down the hall. Not to mention the comments of appreciation and admiration from our fellow cruisers. :goodvibes

I'm soo glad we decided to decorate our door on our cruise! It was soo much fun and didn't take much time at all to do! Here's our door on the first day. By the end of the cruise we had a lot more decorations thanks to some of the wonderful gifts in our fish extender!!! (P.S. we don't even have children and had a great time decorating the door and the FE exchange).

The blue magnet in the middle is our cruise itenerary. I also had a magnet of the cruise ship and each day I would move the ship one more port over!

Ooh! I love the blue magnet idea! Do you happen to have a template of what you used so i can copy your idea (I have no original ideas...) :lmao:

How do you find other people to do this with? Or is it just a Random act of Kindness? This is awesome- we have never cruised or even been to Disney- I think I am more excited than my 6 yr old son. I want it to be great for him. So do I decorate the door and cross my fingers that others put stuff on there and make a few extra for other doors? Is this what the FE thing is????

Go and visit the "Disney Cruise Meets" board and find the cruise you will be going on. They may have an organized Tag (where you use the Fish Exchange) game going on. I'm not an expert as we are going on our first cruise in October - but I'm learning SO much from these message boards!

My cruise doesn't have a link yet, so I may be the lone soldier with the door...Hopefully someone will want to play too. THANKS! Have fun on your cruise!

Any good deals on the internet for magnetic paper?

I bought mine online at:www.decalpaper.com

They worked great and I received them very quickly. I getting ready to order again. I remember the first time I got them from Office Depot and paid an arm and a leg, and the glossy didn't work well since I have an inkjet. On this website the more you order the cheaper it is. They also have tattoo paper.

I did the same thing for both our DCL cruises!!!! I copied the itinerary map from the DCL site and then moved the ship each day!!!

I also change many, but not all, magnets each day. It only takes a few minutes each morning.

On one of your 10/15/08 pics you have what appears to be a deep crimson or burgundy mouse head with a Mickey pirate.... Do you have that pattern, or do you remember who made it? I would love to see it closer or have one made with that likeness, if you don't mind sharing. I also need to find Parrothead magnet patterns or ideas as I am one and will now begin advertising as such since that is the week I always cruise, but never knew of the group!! UNTIL NOW!!

Thanks Bunches!

Just a suggested alternative to the magnetic paper, we did several different designs both off the web and made by my cricut machine. The cricut ones we laminated which made them heavier but we used magnet circles or strips of magnets from Walmart and had no problems with them hanging correctly just position a few pieces in different corners no problem. Also we did not have any problems with ours being stolen we were midship and lots of hallway activity my theory was if someone wants them that bad let them take them, I would not let that stop me and I certainly would not have that cause we to remove them at night. Most of mine were not personalized in any way but a couple were. It is a lot of fun to plan these before your trip and certainly makes it easier to spot your room in a sea of door that all look the same.

Start the thread yourself! Just put the date of the cruise in the subject line and type a message. If you aren't sure what to say look at some others to see what their 1st posts look like.

Here are a couple different variations of this DISign. This is Donatalie's design. Here is her thread...the images were in 4 shared acct.

As far as the Parrothead Disigns..There was one design some had come up with for the group and everyone printed it and put them on shirts for the group photo. It was a fun group. That was my first experience with a big DIS group. I believe they come up with a different logo each year. I just made magnet I liked and put the Parrothead name to it. Several others did that. Have you been on that thread? We really wanted to do the cruise with them again this year, but I couldn't pass up the Double Dip in November.

I would ask Natalie to change the year. I have Photoshop and could erase the year, but it would look good b/c of the textured background. I'm not that talented, I know some of the basics but still learning the more advanced stuff.

This on is a newer one Natalie did...wish I had this before I cut all the mickey heads out. I had used this design to iron on the mini canvas bags I used for the FE gifts. Never thought about adding a border around it. I cut around 25 of older design out for the bags.

This is the one I used for the mini canvas bags.

Have fun

I love the mickey ears for the doors Porthole room number. Does anyone know the dimensions so I can make them for our Sept. 09 cruise???

Also where do you get the DCL insignia to put on them???:wizard:

The Cabin Number “porthole” is about 7.5 inches in diameter. Just cut out a circle of paper or cardboard that size and you can test out your Ears to see if they will work. :thumbsup2

As you wish -- it's not a requirement.

But, it makes it easier to find your door in a sea of white doors. I think it took me all of 5 minutes to put the stuff on the door.

Thanks for all the great door decorating ideas! I guess that now I have something else to be done before the cruise.

There are some great ideas here! I'm planning on doing something low key for my door, too, because I'm bound to forget my number at least once!!!
