Declining Magic Bands

So I just got off the phone with WDW since they no longer give you the option to decline Magic Bands via My Disney Experience. The agent was able to decline them on her end which I certainly appreciated. I have enough of the basic color bands and since they can't seem to get their IT house in order as far as allowing you to upgrade your bands (always seems like this is down) I would rather decline them.

I dialed (407) 939-4357 and kept telling the prompts about Magic Bands and they got me to the correct customer service group.

'RANT AHEAD' This all stemmed from a recent visit to WDW although this issue has happened many times previously. The bands rarely seem to open the resort room doors as it should. Then I must trek back to the front desk to try and get this issue resolved. I rather dislike being told by the front desk that I have "too many Magic Bands". So they want me to stop staying on property? Or perhaps stop purchasing Limited Edition Bands at a premium price? Yeah I didn't think so. Perhaps instead they should fix their IT issues so that the bands unlock your resort room door as it should.

sigh..... it is not an "IT" issue. It is a front of the house issue.

You can't have "too many magic bands". that is not how a database works. It would take thousands of bands or records before one could even begin to reach the limits of the system.

the problem is user error at the front of the house. When a magic band is sent to your home, it is just like every other band you may have. they have no entitlements to a room. only any valid theme park admission entitlements. And again...nothing is ever stored locally on the band. that band is just assigned to you.

When the front desk or back office assigns your room to you, part of the process is to assign you as a "person" to have the right to open the door at the resort. Every single magic band you have in your account then gets those rights. They don't have to go into each band one at a time. that's not how it works. All active bands on your account, will work the same.

So simply, who ever assigned the room to you, did not properly give you, access. Doesn't matter if it is 1 band, or 100. unless that person follows all the steps and completes their task, it wont work.

You can decline the bands, but they moved it to online check in...which part of me gets "muahahahahha we'll trick you into getting something you don't want or upgrading to something you might want" but online check in seems like such a random place to put the option to decline...

@DSLRuser that's interesting, thanks for the explanation :)

Oh I know that it isn't you have too many. I just hate being told that. It's clear that training/knowledge around this issue at the front desk is lacking.
