Decline a New Magic Band?

I've declined through on-line check-in twice, and each time I still get the "your magic bands are waiting for you at the check-in desk" message close to my trip. I have no idea if they really are or not, as I don't go pick them up.

I have now declined magic bands three times only to have 2 of them arrive at my house (one after I'd left town) and the third is waiting for me at the resort. This is getting frustrating.

My bigger question is whether I can still skip the front desk and go straight to my room without picking them up, or if I'll even get my room number in my room ready text. I had that happen one time with bands waiting at the desk. I received my room ready text but without the room number until I went to the front desk to get the bands.

Yes, you can go straight to your room without picking up the gray bands. We did that last month at POR. We never picked them up and shortly after we returned from our trip the gray bands were removed from our MDE account.

I called Disney about this and they said that at this time the option to decline MagicBands has been removed. They hope to one day get the option to decline bands active again. The CM said that if you don't want the bands then don't go into the customize band option at all. If they do mail gray ones to your home then you can bring them with you to the front desk when you arrive at the resort and they will remove them and recycle them. :)

Thank you for responding with a recent experience. This is good to know. I didn't think I had gone into the customize band section for this trip, but I must have. I just hope I get my room number on my room ready text this time!

I thought I had finally successfully declined the MBs. I did all I could: I never went into the Magic Band ordering link and looked at any options, I completed my online check-in early and declined MBs there. I got to a week from my stay, and no notifications of MBs having shipped showed up. I thought I had done it, the ultimate feat..."decline the MB." And then, LESS than 1 week until check-in, there it was in MDE. The dreaded notification...your magic bands have shipped and will be waiting for you at the resort!" Regular, gray MBs.

Some would say, why do you care? Well, I already had to spend time on the phone with IT deleting old MBs, when we all started having issues doing basic MB functions, such as opening doors. What hapens when you have too many, is that some get linked for specific purposes (like opening door) and some get linked to other purposes (like accessing your ticket). Having too many MBs can lead to issues during your vacation. No bueno. I had paired it down to 4 MBs per person and after I did that, no issues with MBs. Success!

Then I got another one at check-in, and had them trash it (it did drop off our accounts, so that was done properly). I have extra MB covers, so I may keep this one, and call IT and have them remove the one from September 2017 that I still have in my account (which still works perfectly fine and I really liked those covers, which is why I kept it!).

@vinotinto
I can say ditto for everything you said. I have also done what you did to avoid the dreaded, unwanted MB, but they still keep getting assigned to us. I have called IT to delete old bands because of problems with both resort room locks and at the gate. And I have several vinyl covers that I love. We each have two premium bands now, and those are the only ones that my husband wants to use. :) I think I am down to 5 bands and he has three, until the dreaded gray bands show up for our March trip. ;)

At least now I know that they will take them off the MDE at the front desk. I don't have to call IT anymore.

Hello, i wasnt sure where to post this. But i already received my mbs from my room only reservation. However, because we wanted to add dining plan, the room only booking had to be canceled so that rebook room and dining as a package. It is now showing that i need to choose mbs for the package. Am i going to be charged for the original mbs? Or can i use those instead of choosing again? Or do i have to choose new ones? This is our very first trip so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You will not be charged for the original bands. You can use them instead of choosing new ones. But you might as well choose new ones because right now Disney will send gray ones if you don't customize them. Pick a different color. You can use both sets of bands. :)

So both sets will be active at same time? I dont have to choose which to activate? Thanks for the advice!

Yes. They will all work for the person they are assigned to. I had the same experience- got a customized one for a trip in December. Declined them in January (but got gray ones offered at the resort), declined again in January (but got a gray one sent to me), and then once more! I have about three that I actually will keep and maybe use, but I still use my customized one the most.

I was worried about the mobile checkin was well. We declined for next week's trip but still got the "your bands will be waiting for you at the front desk" email.

Remember that your MB have a life of about three years. As a result Disney will keep giving you new ones. I have tried unsuccessfully to stop them from sending new ones. All you can do is delete the ones you don't want from MDE.
