Decks 1 or 2 -- Stayed There?

Hello All:

I have another question for the experienced cruisers on the board.

DW is prone to motion sickness. I know from my dad's Navy experience that the center of the ship receives the least amount of motion.

Based on those questions, I was looking at Cat 9 outside staterooms, and decks 1 and 2 would be decks that would provide centerline rooms in this category.

Now for the question, have any of you stayed on decks 1 or 2, or if not, can you give me a little bit of information on any perceived pros or cons related to these decks.

Once again, thanks in advance for all your help.

TiggerKing,
I can't help you today; however, my parents and kids are going on the cruise this Saturday. They are in a Category 9, Stateroom 1060. They are also concerned about seasickness. When they return on the 31st (or if they call sooner) I will make sure that I get the details on this and let you know.

Hello there!

I actually stayed on Deck 2 during my first Disney Cruise. I was pretty much in the center of the ship and I honestly did not feel anymore rockiness there than I did anywhere else on the cruise. However, I am not one to get seasick easily, so you might still want to bring your seasickness medicine, just so you are prepared for the worst. All in all though, on a Disney Cruise the boat does not rock tooo much, except of course if there is like a storm right near ya, then you are set for a ride!

Christine:

I would appreciate hearing what your parents think of deck 2 as far as noise, location etc. I can wait until next week to book our cruise, that shouldn't be a problem.

I look forward to anyone else's responses. Since we are going on either 11/28 or 12/2, I know the weather can sometimes be a little choppy. Don't want the DW to be sick on our anniversary!

TiggerKing,
They will actually be on Deck 1 not Deck 2.

We just returned from the Wonder, deck 2, aft. We have been on deck 6 & deck 8 previously. We did not notice any difference in the motion of the ship, but we are not typically prone to seasickness on the larger ships. However, we did notice the noise of the engines or the thrusters early in the morning when the ship was making its approach to the dock. It woke us up every morning like a plane was landing in our room.

Don't book a category 9 on deck 1! The deck 1, cat. 9 cabins have two very small portholes (1ft. diameter) as apposed to the deck 2, cat. 9 cabins that have one HUGE porthole (3ft. diameter).

We really liked deck 2 on our last cruise and booked another cat. 9, deck 2 for our next cruise. I didn't notice any loud noises at night. In the morning you might hear something on port days, but it amused me rather than bothered.

We are ready 8/14 to take our 5th cruise, we have been on deck 2 cabin 2108 and 2114 for all our cruises. As you can see we love the location because we keep picking the same room. It's right at the steps, elevator if you need, good location for restaurants and getting off the ship. The engine noise is soothing at night and a good reminder when docking, get up and get going. Any other questions just ask.

We stayed on deck 2 (cat 9, I think) on a 4 night cruise and loved it. It was a little noisy when we docked or left dock, but other than that, it was fine.

As for seasickness, I sleep like a drugged baby on cruises, so I'm not one to comment on rocking.

As an aside, can you request a specific deck or room within a category when you book directly through DCL??

On our first cruise, we were on deck 7 category 10.

On our last cruise, we were on deck 2 category 10 room 2105 and we loved it.

We didn't hear any engine noise.

We also stayed on deck 2 cat. #9 cabin #2586. That is mid ship and has been listed as a "noisy room". But we had no problem with noise at all. The only time it was a wee bit loud was the last night when they were moving the luggage in the hallways. And I am certain that type of noise was heard on all of the deck's hallways. We never heard engine noise or thrusters. We felt no movement, but I did pack motion sickness medication just in case. (Never opened the wrapper on it!!) We loved the huge porthole. We had our 3 yr old DGD along and didn't want to take any chances with a verandah. We loved the cat. #9 and decided to book it again, since we spent so little time in the cabin, we couldn't justify the extra cost for a verandah when we sail just the 2 of us adults. Hope this info helps!! We can't wait to cruise again!!!:wave2:

Hi there,

We stayed in a Cat. 9 outside stateroom on Deck 2

We heard the engine on occasion, but it was one of those sounds that just becomes background noise and you get used to it. Also, about the rocking, we hardly ever felt rocking, except on one day with 13-20 foot waves. The whole boat was rocking, but we found that it was better just to go up to the top decks (9&10)

Hope that helps!

Had deck 1 forward cabin for our first week of our back to back last year: was quiet, close to gangway, and VERY calm. Our second week was on deck 7 aft, and the seas were much more noticable. Nat:Pinkbounc

On our first cruise we were in a Cat 10 cabin on Deck 2 aft. I loved the sound of the engines at night, they kept me from having to use a white noise machine. The constant sound is very soothing and I'm a VERY light sleeper.

I stayed on deck 2, 2518, a cat 9 forward room. It's listed as noisy but no noise at all from above. It was very comfortable. When I was hanging around the rear part of deck 2, I did notice more noise and vibration from the engines but nothing that bothered me much.

Thanks for the information. The cheapness in me wants to book a Cat 9 instead of Cat 8, but since this is our first ever cruise, I didn't want to spoil it either.

Any other input is greatly appreciated.

we were center ship on deck 2 for our first disney cruise and of our 3 cruises this was definitely the one with the least motion! No problem at all with Deck 2 here!

I wouldn't pay the extra for the cat 8. The cat 9s are the same room and much more convenient to the restaurants and for returning to the ship after excursions. We were on deck 6 last time but we had a cat 6...that made up for the fact that almost everything was three decks away, either up or down. We have connecting 9s this time, will need to use the elevators to get to deck 9, that is it. We only do the pool/hot tubs in the early morning so the elevator is a rational choice.

I have been on many cruises. We always pick down and in the middle of the ship; have had very few problems with the feeling of movement.

Category 8 cabins are WAY forward. If you were going to feel motion that would be where you would feel it the most. Get a cat. 9, midship and you won't be disappointed.

Check out the Deck Plans.
