My dh & I are in the process of re-doing our deck. We have pressure washed, sanded, and re-sealed it. We were looking for something to put on the hand rails to prevent splinters & thought of Disney's handrails. Theres look like real wood with some sort of coating. Does anyone know what they put on their handrails to make them so smooth? Where we can buy it?

thanks!!

Welcome to the Flower & Garden board, Glenda! :)

I don't know what Disney uses on their handrails to keep them so smooth. Perhaps it's just the oils from thousands of hands, or, some of the railings could be make of composite lumber (recyled plastic & wood.)

According to my DH, wood splinters from drying out. Applying Tung oil to the railings would help to keep the wood moist, thereby less likely to splinter. If you wanted to try it, you would first have to sand off the sealer you applied. I should mention that if you use the Tung oil, it will slightly darken the wood.

I'm sorry I don't have the answer for you, but perhaps one of our other Buds will. :)

Kim :)
