What kind of cups are available on Deck 9? I am wondering if I need to bring a sippy cup for my 2 yr.old. Do they have cups with lids and straws??

I don't believe they had lids or straws... I don't remember any at least. I would assume they don't because of safety for the sealife/birds etc...

Anyone else remember if they have them or not?

I am sure they had lids because I would go up and get coffee every morning and take it back to the room. The tops would fit over the cups so it would work with the milk and oj too. Not sure about the straws, although they had coffee stirrers. Sometimes they have the hole through the middle and can be used by the little ones as straws.

When we went they had used the same cups as they did in DisneyWorld. The full cup with lid and straw. Was able to get straws to use in the mugs.

Ahhh. You've come to the expert on this one, LOL!! We disembarked last Saturday with two toddlers. On deck nine they have lemonade, water, milk and iced tea. The cups are like coffee cups, with the lids you use for coffee on the run. We found they worked great, even without straws, for our girls. However, if you want straws you could just grab them at the bar for no charge.

It is important to note, though, that there are no sippy cups and no cups with lids in the dining rooms. You may want to bring something along to help with that. However, our servers used juice cups and just didn't fill them all the way. One of the sweetest things our asst. server did was when my 2 year old and 4 year old started fighting over the cherries in my older daughter's Shirley Temple, he brought out a heaping bowl of cherries for the 2 year old. It was adorable!!! They go to great lengths in the dining room to make the meals enjoyable and easy for the kids.

We are in a Category 9 room so a low deck, would there be milk available for my 17 month and if so 24 hours.

How will I keep milk for him around the clock with out carting on a gallon?

CAT 9 does not lock you below deck, you get everything the same on the ship when you walk out your door. You can get milk in the restaurants, on deck 9 and from room service. I don't think I would trust leaving milk in the cool box, better off to order early from room service or pack in ice.

Milk is available 24 hours a day on Deck Nine from a dispenser. However, we also found it was handy to order some milk from room service. It came in the small school lunch sized cartons. We ordered up a number of those and buried them in fresh ice in the ice bucket.

For the evening bottle, DD really enjoyed the walk upstairs with her dad to fill her bottle. It was a nice shipboard ritual.

Hope that helps!

Perfect you all just answered something I had worried about but had not had a chance to inquire about.

Any other advice about traveling with little ones?

Yes! Best piece of advice. . . bring a blow up beach ball. Our kids had a great time not just on Castaway Cay with it, but it was a fun diversion in our stateroom as well. Also, take advantage of room service--- it is super helpful, especially if you will be taking advantage of Flounders during the meals. This way you don't have to balance your toddler and her tray going through Topsiders. They can deliver chicken fingers, PB&J, hamburgers, salads, cheeses, etc.

Also, for breakfast, I always woke up early and enjoyed taking a book up to Topsiders on my own. Then I would bring down a breakfast tray for our kids--- cereals (they aren't normally allowed to eat Fruit Loops, but hey its vacation), pastries, bananas, bagels, yogurt, etc. Then DH could go up and have a quiet breakfast too while the kids ate and I got them dressed for the day. The kids liked the one day we did a sit down lunch at Lumiere's on a sea day because we got a table right next to a porthole--- they loved looking out the window!!!

Also, embarkation day with little ones is tough. This is especially because you have the crowds at the buffet so you are doing that tray/toddler balance in an unfamiliar place. The worst part is the safety drill when everyone-- including infants and toddlers--- must wear the life jackets. Trust me-- it is hard to carry a toddler in a life jacket when you are also wearing one!!! Just tell yourself all of these things are over by 4:30pm, and then you will be set to enjoy the cruise. Our first cruise we were really worried about things during these challenges but once it is all done you are all set.

Flounders is FANTASTIC!!!!!

Jellymoon, I had to laugh when I read about your bowl of cherries...

12 yr old ds loved ordering Shirley Temples in the dining room, and after the first night our assistant server always had one on the table waiting for him. One night, though, he overachieved. The drink was full of cherries and my son ate every one -- about 2 dozen. About midnight that night, I heard my son go into the bathroom, and guess what happened to all those cherries?! Yep, all night, about every hour. The odor of cherries was overpowering. He was one sick kid.

The next night, he turned ghostly white at the sight of his Shirley Temple, and it was about 4 months before he ordered another!

I too have a toddler who likes bottles of milk at before nap & bed time. On our last trip, I could not find milk on Castaway Cay. Anyone know if they have it? I have good insulated bags (to bring it from the ship) but the "ice" packs need to be frozen in advance & there is no freezer that I am aware of. So no fresh milk that day. I think I will either bring along some cartons of UHT milk (the box milk with long shelf life) or powder packets of formula to mix on the spot.

I would either use your insulated ice pack and fill some ziplock bags with ice to pack around the cartons of milk, or carry the ice bucket off the ship with you. Also, if worse comes to worse, someone could always run back to the ship to get milk at naptime. It isn't too far from the family beach. Not to mention, Flounders is open from 1-4pm, so you could go back and actually drop the wee one off for bottle and nap, and spend some adult time with your own nap in a hammock over in Serenity Bay. :)
