Okay, hubby is freakin' out about the possibility of staying on Deck 2.
We've only cruised once, Nov '03. We had a cat 7 navigator's verandah on deck 6. It was perfect, except for the fact that we paid for a verandah that was used for less than an hour total in 4 days.
The cat 7 was booked because hubby insisted we HAD to have direct access to fresh air without going up on deck.
Needless to say, we could've saved $$ on our stateroom costs.
So, hubby has now agreed (after experiencing a cruise) that we don't HAVE to have a verandah. Heck we don't HAVE to even have a porthole. His only requirement now is that do HAVE to have a split bath (and I agree with him on that one). So the cheapest we can go is a category 10 stateroom (inside with split bath). But guess what? that pretty much guarantees us that we're on deck 1 or 2 (assumption that deck 5 and 7 cat 10 rooms book FAST so probably won't be available for the specific dates we need).
DH's biggest concern is engine noise if we're on deck 1 or 2 ... so my question to you-oh-so-wise-cruisers is: what are the chances of engine noise if we're on deck 1 or 2? And is it worth the price difference to look at a category 8 stateroom instead (since cat 9 is all on decks 1 and 2 also)? Or should we consider the virtues of category 11 (decks 5, 6 or 7)? Cat 11 would be a tough sell without the split bath (we're travelling with a 14 year old girl), but price wise it might be necessary.
