Okay, hubby is freakin' out about the possibility of staying on Deck 2.

We've only cruised once, Nov '03. We had a cat 7 navigator's verandah on deck 6. It was perfect, except for the fact that we paid for a verandah that was used for less than an hour total in 4 days. The cat 7 was booked because hubby insisted we HAD to have direct access to fresh air without going up on deck. Needless to say, we could've saved $$ on our stateroom costs.

So, hubby has now agreed (after experiencing a cruise) that we don't HAVE to have a verandah. Heck we don't HAVE to even have a porthole. His only requirement now is that do HAVE to have a split bath (and I agree with him on that one). So the cheapest we can go is a category 10 stateroom (inside with split bath). But guess what? that pretty much guarantees us that we're on deck 1 or 2 (assumption that deck 5 and 7 cat 10 rooms book FAST so probably won't be available for the specific dates we need).

DH's biggest concern is engine noise if we're on deck 1 or 2 ... so my question to you-oh-so-wise-cruisers is: what are the chances of engine noise if we're on deck 1 or 2? And is it worth the price difference to look at a category 8 stateroom instead (since cat 9 is all on decks 1 and 2 also)? Or should we consider the virtues of category 11 (decks 5, 6 or 7)? Cat 11 would be a tough sell without the split bath (we're travelling with a 14 year old girl), but price wise it might be necessary.

We had a Deck 2 room - between the forward and midship elevators and didn't hear any noise from either the engine or dining room above us. Dave from Marietta's website lists some noisy rooms to avoid - link is below. I would also try and decide what is above you when selecting a room although I do not really remember reading anything about nightclub (base noise maybe) or dining noise.

Dining noise shouldn't be an issue - I don't think we'll ever be in bed during main or late dining (too much other stuff to be doing on the ship then). I think the only real noise concern would be nightclub noise (cuz THAT can go late!!) and of course the engine noise. ;)

We stayed on deck 2 (category 9) room 2618 and is was excellent. We were very close to one of the elevators and there was no noise. The room was very quiet. We would definitely stay on deck 2 again. I have nothing bad to say about deck 2. Go for it!

We had our rooms on deck 2 outside. I think they were 2560 or something like that. In the middle of the ship. We didn't have any problem with noise. I don't know that I would like to have an inside cabin because I enjoy the natural light coming through the porthole. An outside cabin would be a nice compromise --you know halfway between a veranda and none at all.

29 more days!!! :bounce:

I booked a Cat 11 on deck but I was upgraded to 2004 and was fine with it. The "noise" on deck 2 was the same as some people would call "white noise."

We always stay on Deck 2 Cat 9. It is listed as a noisy room from Dave's site. We hear a little noise from Parrot Cay above, but not loud or anything annoying... When we are docking or leaving we hear the engine noise. Near aft elevators, easy access to everything.

Stayed in a Cat 10 on deck 2. It was even on Dave's "noisy" list. I didn't notice any unusual/excessive noise.

Love the location

I loved deck 2. We were close enough to the restaurants not to have to use the elevators, and could quickly go down to the room or up to eat. We were close to the exit when we were in dock so when we got on board and EVERYONE else was waiting for elevators, we just walked right up to our room. We were under Lumiere's (an inside cabin) and didn't hear a thing except the night of the desert buffet. We were midship, so close to elevators AND the laundry room. Would choose this room over another any time!!

Deck 1, Room 1048 was good. No hallway noise. Some noise while we were in port. Sounded like they were banging something against the side of the ship (maybe cleaning, painting). No engine noise. I really liked Deck 1 - especially when returning from port, we could go right to our room.

I did notice that the hallway near the laundry room on Deck 2 was HOT! I wouldn't want to be there.

We are cruising on deck 2 now. Been in a 10 and 9. We like the natural light that the porthole gives. Deck 2 is a good deck. Close to the adult clubs and restaurants and when in port close to where we disembark the ship at. Also, there's 7 flights of stairs to get us up to deck 9. Stairs are good - get to eat more desserts:hyper: :hyper:

We had no problem sleeping in the cat 10 (or 11 for that matter) because when the lights our out, it is dark!. On deck 2 we have not been bothered by any noise from the ship or hallway (that could be because we play hard and are exhausted when we go to the room to sleep)

We were in 2006 in Sept. on the Magic, no unusual noise at all. I've been on decks 5 and 6 and 2 was about the same, maybe a little quieter 'cause we were forward. Would definitely take deck 2 again.

We stayed in a cat.9 on deck 2 in 2003 and have no complaints. It was our first cruise and the room was as far as I am concerned perfect. It was #2570 and midship with a porthole. It was only 5 rooms away from the midship elevators and stairs. Close to restaurants and clubs and only one flight down to disembark for port days. We are going again in March 2005 and we have booked the same room again. So I agree with everyone, deck two was great for us.

Add me to the list of people who like Decks 1 & 2!! After 10 DCL cruises we have stayed on just about all the decks and absolutely love Deck 2. We had stayed there mid ship 3 times and never had a problem with noise.

We had much more noise this past Feb in our Deck 5 Aft cabin than we did on Deck 2 mid-ship.

All of you just made me happy. Hubby, myself and our 4 year old daughter are cruising to the western on May 22nd... our 10 month old is staying home with my mom... :(
I will miss him but she thought I needed some time for myself.
Anyway - we will be on deck 2, category 9. I think our room is 2576....
