Deck 2 jitters.....

On this past cruise, I got a category 9 on a guarantee and was assigned stateroom 2046.

"OH NO!! The lowest that I've been on previous cruises was deck 6! I've always had a verandah! That's one of the rooms that listed as being "noisy" on Dave's site!!!!!!!!!"

I was very apprehensive, but heck, I was cruising and that's what mattered most.

To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. Deck 3 was one quick flight of steps up or down, getting us to the action in seconds.

Getting off of the ship at the ports was a breeze. No waiting for elevators for us. When we did use the elevators from our level, they were either empty or close to it. We always got on.

The window provided wonderful views. Being in the "belly" wasn't bad at all.

And as far as noise, other than the occasional ship noises that I've heard on both decks 5 and 6, it was fine. (As for DH's snoring..........that's a noise that's always in my room. ) The room opposite us was for some sort of storage, not mechanics.

And having the laundry room down the hall was very convenient.

For those of you who are nervous about being on this deck, there are lot of pluses. We booked another category 9 cruise while onboard.

I stayed in a cat 9 once and didn't mind it at all! I don't know whe people want to stay away from the "belly of the boat". It isn't like that at all! We sailed through a hurricane on deck 2 once and never even got queasy, there were a ton of "queasy" people on that sailing!

Thanks so much for that info. I am on Deck 2 on Spet. 20, and previously I had deck 6 and deck 7. So I was wondering how it would be on 2, and then another post on this board had some folks REALLY glad they weren't upgraded to deck 2, and I thought it must be pretty bad. Now I will just relax and look forward to the cruise. Thanks!

On our last cruise I was on deck 1 in 1047 and 1049 and had no problems at all. Besides we were pretty much in our rooms to sleep and change clothes and that's it. It was just what we needed. In fact we booked our next cruise on the ship and picked rooms 1051 and 1053 because the are connecting.

Thanks to hear that you liked deck 2. I even wrote about that the other day saying that I was nervous about it and I wonder if I should upgrade. We had a verandah last time and loved it! But this is only the 4 day.
We go this November and just can't wait! Tomorrow I'll be doing my double digit dance!!

My family calls me a Disney freak. Nothing wrong with that.

I stayed on Deck 2 last summer and was pleasantly surprised by the size and comfort of our room. I recommend it!

We loved being on deck 2! As mentioned, it's just a quick run up or down the stairs most of the time (I hate waiting for elevators all the time!). We were in 2012 and had no problems with noise or motion sickness.

I will only stay on deck 2 (aft)! The only foot traffic you get is people going back to their rooms, the aft stairs get you to dinner quick, there's less motion on bad sea days (I almost threw up in the spa while getting a massage the ship was rocking so much), the laundry room is a short walk away and when you need to use the elevator there's just a short wait. The only down side to deck 2 aft is that it takes a little while to get to the kids clubs and to the WD Theater. Otherwise, I love it!!!

Regina - coming from you, that's some great news...I always worry how I'd make it without the verandah since I do spend so much time on it, but you have mentioned a lot of good points about Deck 2 - plus with the lower cost, a person could cruise more!!!

I don't remember where I read it, possibly over on the CCL boards, but someone was speaking on a cruise where the weather was really bad, and people from the higher decks were in the halls on deck 2 trying to calm their stomachs down. So maybe we are in the best spot

Thank you so much for posting! Our family just go upgraded from category 11 to category 9. Our room swill be 2050 and 2048. I was nervous about the location but feel much better now!

I was worried too! We also just got upgraded from cat 11 to cat 9 and was worried because it was listed on Dave's site. I was just happy for the view. I was hoping for all the things you were saying about it being easier to get around, especially when you go ashore. We were on deck 6 on our last cruise and It seemed like it took forever to get off the ship. So I am glad to hear this bit of pleasant news. That is why I love the boards!

I forgot to mention how much we loved being so close to the water, and watching and hearing the wake of the ship from the porthole. Very relaxing.

I've been touting the advantages of deck 2 location on these boards for quite some time....for those who seek a non-verandah category, IMHO you cant do any better than cat 9 on deck 2

I have travelled overseas more time than I can count, cruised/sailed often.

My thoughts here follow the old adage:

Book the cheapest cabin on the best ship.

I don't think there are many on this board who'll debate the "best Boat" is a DCL ship.

The $$$ you save on the cabin can be spent all over the Carribean.


As to noise: I never mind the gentle hum of a ship's engine to lull me to sleep. I usually am so worn out nothing (But my DW) can keep me awake.
