DCL emailed us that we could upgrade from cat 8C Deluxe Family Stateroom with big window to cat 5A Deluxe Stateroom with a Veranda for a small fee.

We can't pick the room, so it could be on Deck 10 and I think some have mentioned that since it's under the pools it can be really noisy.

We were able to select out stateroom in cat 8c (room 8518) which is on Deck 8 and were kind of looking forward to it, including the location.

But now we're trying to decide if the veranda is worth doing, if it's going to be really noisy due to all the activities above us.

I know we could get lucky and get a room on Deck 9 that is a 5A.....

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks
Chris

I received that same offer....but was too nervous about the noise complaints. We are staying on deck 6 mid ship and have heard its a good location. So we passed on the "upgrade"
Good luck on your decision!

We stayed in 10590 our last cruise, yes you could hear noise but nothing bothersome. we slept fine at night and we were often asleep by 9 every night. The pirate party was the noisiest but still not bad. We opted to be on deck 9 for our next cruise only because my mother is a light sleeper and I worried she might be bothered. If it was my only option to have a verandah I would stay on deck 10 without hesitation.

I've stayed on deck 10 twice now. The first time on the Fantasy I had 10566 and my Mom and I heard noise like chairs dragging above, however it was not horrible. Most recently last most on the Dream we had 10646 (aft) and it was so quiet and didn't hear any noise. Unfortunately it's a gamble but I wouldn't hesitate to do it again and I'm a very light sleeper. I also love the overhang from deck 10 as it provides more shelter from the sun and possibly rain.

As you mentioned you could get deck 9 however it seems like most gets deck 10 when upgraded to cat 5a.

Let us know how it turns out!

Someone else posted about being able to upgrade for $65. They also pointed out that the VGT rate was already less than what they had originally paid for their cat 8 stateroom. I wouldn't want the smaller room that comes with a cat 5, honestly, or the cut in storage space. We also prefer the round tub.

We were in 10542 last month. I could hear chairs dragging around from time to time, but it wasn't enough noise to be really bothersome. It never woke me up or kept me from falling asleep or anything. Actually, I loved that location and would book it again in a heartbeat. It was so convenient to be one flight of stairs from the drink station, buffet and fast food areas. :goodvibes

It's been a while since I posted this, I actually was able to call Disney and ask for a particular stateroom, which meant I could select Deck 9.

My TA didn't think they would allow it, but they did.... however it had to go through my TA anyway.

DCL was very helpful on the phone to suggest stateroom's available.

Our cruise on 12/8 must not be too crowded.

As long as you didn't book a GTY you can select the stateroom. :) Glad you found one you wanted.

OP probably got an offer to upgrade but more than likely it would be GTY.

That said, I would price out if you are indeed getting anything special. It'll be a little hard to figure out, but it's very possible that what they are offering you is nothing better than suggesting you upgrade and the cost to upgrade would be indeed the same you would have spend in you had actually decided on doing it.

To 'check' what you need to do is try to change your category online (or ask your TA to price out). Don't worry about current cost of a cabin - any changes you make are tied to the original booking date, and this could have been opening day prices. If the price per person or per day is the same you are being offered, it is indeed no offer at all.

You want to make sure it is not a marketing ploy to lure you into upgrading. Disney has been doing this recently sending out email messages making it look like a PIN offer (it includes a special 3 letter code) when in fact it is nothing more than rack rate.

We just stayed on deck 6 midship in September and loved it! It was wonderful to be able to just dart down the stairs to the kids club.
