well, here's the thing, guys. i'll admit that I read through the threads today re: fastpass limitations for pop century guests.
I really considered whether I should call my travel agent and switch resorts. but...I am not going to do that. i'll tell you why, just in case it helps ease anyone else's minds out there...not that I will ease anyone's mind...I've never even BEEN to disneyworld, haha. but here it goes.
I have been watching MDE app off and on over the past few months. it seems like most of the basic MK rides (dumbo, carousel, Aladdin, etc) have short wait times. it is mostly the major headliners that have lengthy waits/require fastpass.
I was pretty bummed to hear i'd only have 3 per day, especially after paying for a park hopper and choosing to stay in a resort specifically for its perks. but then I thought, you know, I have younger children (ages 9 and 8). are they REALLY going to give two hoots if we stand in line for half an hour to get on a ride? no. weather dependent, knowing my kids, they will sit their butts on the ground happily sticking stickers in an autograph book and doodling in diaries, simply pleased as punch to be IN Disneyworld to begin with. what are they going to do? stand in long lines to ride those with awesome reputations? or will they repeat the carousel over and over again and stand by watching dumbo in awe for hours simply because they are little girls with a love for the simple, most innnocent things in life? probably the latter.
it seems as though adults can get hung up on the technicalities of getting on rides without waits, doing things as efficiently as possible, strict itineraries, because we pay BIG BIG BIG bucks to go to Disney world. I know that feeling all too well - booking a trip that in all reality we probably can't really afford right now but saved my hard earned dollars for a Christmas present to my children, one they will never, ever forget. i want to maximize my dollars to the full extent and be sure it's money well spent. but...when they are adults and look back on their childhoods, are they going to think, gee, I can't believe we stood in lines so long, what a waste! no. I can imagine they will remember hugs from princesses, the excitement over autographs, riding in tea cups, dumbo, magic carpets, and more. riding on a safari with the giddy hopes of catching a glimpse of an animal.
oh great, now i'm actually sitting here like a total geek getting choked up and teary eyed! the looks on children's faces must be pure JOY in every sense of the word. lol. but you know what I mean? I was really wondering how this trip would pan out with all the changes...top it off with the fact that I've never been there and don't really know what to think of Disney world..i can't even imagine what it looks like in real life..
and I remind myself that regardless of pop century's potential disadvantage, my children are THRILLED over the thought of the flower shaped pool and tie dyed cheesecake. that will be a real highlight, no doubt. why would I change resorts after knowing how much they are going to love it? know what I mean?
this really puts things into perspective for me...perhaps i'm naïve...
