DH just mentioned that he wants to go to Disney in 2010. Our DS will start Kindergarden in 9/10 so DH does not want to go when DS is in school. We were thinking of going 12/26/10-1/2/11. Is this a good time to go or will it be too crowded? I really wanted to go after the WWoHP at universal but it doesn't open until the Summer and I do not want to go in the summer. What do you recommend?

You will be visiting during a very beautiful and festive time, but it will also be a VERY crowded time.

I wouldn't put too much worry into taking a child out of school, especially in Kindergarten. If you prefer to go at a different time of the year, now is the age to do it. You will get responses from people who do not agree with me, and would never pull their children out of school. I teach at an elementary school and for a child to miss some time at school is not usually a problem. Work around any testing and you should be fine.

The week between Christmas and New Year's is the busiest week of the year for all local parks. There will be LONG lines for everything so just be prepared.

We changed our minds. NJ schools are closed a few days the 1st week in November for a teacher's conference. So we will be going October 30-November 7 2010. My DS will only miss 2 days of school.

The week you are going is called "Jersey Week" because lots of folks from Jersey do attend WDW at conference time. It has become a tradition and Disney does a lot of marketing aimed at the Jersey crowd. Although not as busy as holiday weeks, it is usually somewhat busy. Just be sure you do research on what to expect. We were there "accidentally" during Jersey week a few years ago - and the parks were more crowded than we anticipated. . .but we were still able to manage most activities.

my DS is in Jk and my DD is in grade 2. We look at the school calendar and find a week when they will miss the least amount of school as well, I think its a great idea when there at that age.

We were there during Jersey week last year (accidentally) and it was a fine time to go. There were LOTS of jersey accents on the buses, but overall the crowds were very manageable and I kept thinking I heard my cousins! We tried to get to the parks early and got the most popular rides out of the way and we rarely had a wait.Have fun!
