My old one was a Rebel XT but vanished from my car :confused3. I would say I never never never never forget to lock my car but I guess I can't. My key fob has been acting up so maybe it did not click and when you're making sure your 2 kids aren't running into downtown traffic...well my mind was preoccupied.

I have some money saved up to buy a new lens but that will have to go for a new camera now. I'm not professional by any means but love the creative modes and play around and experiment.

I really want the best low light, high ISO and good auto focus (mine seemed a bit hard at times). I have Canon lenses so I'm staying with that.

Was looking at the T1i or the 50D. Any opinions on these or a different model. I think the 50D is at the top of my price range.

Is there any big difference between the D and lower models?

Thanks!

From what I can find the T1i does not have better low light capability than the Xsi, just a higher ISO setting. The noise level is high, suggesting that the higher ISO is about the same as underexposing a Xsi and boosting the levels in software. 50D reviews appear about the same.

If you do not care about video it may be worth getting a Xsi and saving the $100. Xsi auto focus is reported to be the same as a 40D, so probably not quite as good as 50D. The Rebel and xxD series are built quite differently although it does not affect image quality. The weight is very different, as is the battery and memory card. DPReview has a comparison chart.

The handling is also different, the Rebels are perhaps a bit more clunky, without the wheel in back. Still, starting with the Xsi the handling has been greatly improved over the Xti and older models. Hold the two models at a store to see which feels better, many people say the Rebels feel too small although I am very happy with the Xsi (coming from a 30D).

I say buy the most camera you can afford, especially since you are already well on your way down the long and expensive road of photography.
I would also expect the build quality to be a little better on the fifty.

I have the XSi (450D) and think if it ever got stolen I would just get another used or refurbished XSi.
