Decided not to stress about the kids menus.

Considering that huge difference in cost between the adult plan and the kids' plan, I'm surprised that Disney is willing to do it during free dining -- especially if you only have to upgrade the child's ticket for one day, but have free dining for a much longer period of time. But several people have reported they were allowed to do so. I wonder if there is an age limit? Could you upgrade a 4 year old to an adult to make all of their meal credits adult credits? I could see that leading to problems [/QUOTE]

I agree with you - I think that especially during free dining that this is taking advantage. And, yes, there is an age limit - it is over 9. Anyone going during free dining who is under 9 years of age is entitled to the child's dining plan for FREE. Anyone over that is entitled to the adults dining plan for free.

But I do think that we should all do this for free dining this year - even with our 3 and 4 year olds. To prove the point that if everyone took advantage in this way - Disney would be unlikely to offer free dining again.

and we have both Alfredos and Le Chefs booked (not sure which we'll keep but they both have items he'd like).

I would keep Alfredos because they are closing at the end of August and you won't get to eat there next time (assuming there is a next time). We are really sad we won't be able to dine there in Sept.

Hey OP.
Sorry my well-intentioned post has turned this thread into a debate. :confused3 I really only meant to offer a suggestion. Like some of the other posters stated, I think it's great that you're taking a laid back approach...you and your family will surely enjoy your vacation!

P.S. Just to clarify, The $34 I stated is to upgrade a 7 day MYW ticket from child to adult (during free dining)...it's not just one day, but 7 days. I don't think I'm taking advantage...but others are entitled to a different opinion.

I specifically asked the CM if upgrading a child to an adult is allowed. He said sure as long as I pay for it.
The point is that another CM may not allow you to do that. DISboards members have reported being refused many requests that other members have reported being granted. The point of my message was to underscore the need to have written documentation when you're promised an exception, so that when that second CM tells you something different from the first one, you can have a reasonable expectation that your request will be honored regardless.

I, too, have been doing planning to try to plan for the places that my kids will be most interested in the choices. If we end up at a place that they don't like anything...I'm not going to stress either - we'll either use a couple snack credits or share our adult meals (and get an extra snack in the park) or just pay for something OOP - no worries.

My kids are HUGE pasta fans and we were very sad that Coral Reef removed it from the kids menu (they didn't like the mac n cheese there either). ANyway, I booked for August Tony's at MK - it shows speghetti & meatballs on the kids menu. My kids will love it!

Also not too happy that the pasta was removed from Coral Reef.

Does anyone know if you order a complete meal (such as the pizza) can you sub the brown sugar apples for an ice cream sundae which you could order if you did not order the complete meal?

We're not going to stress about it either. I figure that our 4 yr old DD will pick things she likes off our plates, and we'll pick off hers. DS is 11 so he can order whatever he wants off the adult menu.

What I meant to say was, would a CM be more likely to say yes if you explained your child is almost 10, than if you tried to upgrade a 4 year old or a 6 year old? I could see more people with older children feeling that maybe the kids' meals wouldn't be enough food for them. Even though, sometimes people say their 13 year old is a light eater and would prefer the children's menu  But if a family was willing to pay to upgrade a six year old (not talking about free dining, but paying the extra $28 a day for the plan, and the increased price for park tickets), then I don't think there would be as much of an issue, except maybe you might have to explain at TS restaurants why the child is also using adult TS credits. I do know there was an issue last year with people um..."inventing"...other adults on their reservations in order to get additional free dining credits, but I'm not sure how that worked. Seems like it would just be more expensive in the long run because they'd have to pay for the room package and tickets for their imaginary friend anyway, wouldn't they? :rotfl2:

The TS restaurants, in general, are much more accommodating of special requests and reasonable substitutions than CS. Just ask, and they very well may say yes :thumbsup2
