Hi! I'm more of a lurker than a writer on the boards, but I've gotten a lot of help from you all in my lurking and thought of you guys when I started looking up info for an upcoming trip. My husband & I are going to Kansas City, MO next month & are looking for a good place to stay. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

You may want to be more specific with your request -- are you wanting near the airport, near worlds of fun, near the Plaza, near Westport, near Crown Center, downtown area, Johnson county (Kansas side), Independence, Lee's Summit area, etc., etc. :)

I agree with Disney Freak... Born and raised in KC (live 30 minutes North now). Kansas City is pretty spread out, do you have a specific location/interest in mind?

We're going to the Midland Theatre. I think it is in the downtown area?? Thanks for any help you have. We don't know the area at all. So, any advice you have would be appreciated!

We like to stay at the Hyatt near Crown Center. The rooms are great and its close to the Plaza, Crown Center, Sprint Center etc. It has a great heated roof top pool. Not sure what your budget is but we have gotten some pretty good deals online through the Hyatt website. :goodvibes

When dh's job flew us out here to consider relocation, we stayed at the Hyatt near Crown Center. It was a nice hotel in a great location. There were plenty of places to eat. You aren't that far from anything in Kansas City at that hotel.:thumbsup2

I am a big Hyatt fan also. When we were there in Jan., we used our AAA cards at check-in and got free breakfast (2 per room). I'm not sure if this promotion is still going on.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into the Hyatt. As for budget...this is kind of an impromptu road trip that we are trying to keep as cheap as possible.

We did a KC girls weekend last spring and I booked our room using priceline. We wanted to stay near Crown Center. I put in only top rated hotels in that area in the bid section. Ended up with a room at the Westin Crown Center (newly remodeled room) for about $60/night. Sorry I don't remember the specific. Also did a priceline for KC the summer before that and stayed near the airport. I chose that area because I could be pretty certain of which hotel we'd get based on the star level I was using to bid. We stayed at the Hilton for under $50. It takes extra work and a bunch of time on priceline to find the area and then what star level to bid on but in the end the price has always been good for me. Of course, you always have a risk of whether the room with will sleep two or four people so that can be a concern and you don't know exactly where you will be staying until after you win the bid.

Have a fun trip!

Embassy Suites near the Plaza is a great place to stay. We were there for a long weekend. It was a really nice hotel!

These are all good suggestions... if you want to stay 'close to' the Midland, you may look into Hotel Phillips. It's pretty inexpensive, it's an older hotel but I had friends stay there recently and they said it was still nice... the rooms are a a little small, and no 'bathtub' only a shower. So if that is an issue, you many look elsewhere. But it is close to the downtown action (Power & Light, Midland, ect) and its clean. The Westin Crown Center or the Hyatt would be the next closest option I can think of, but of course generally more expensive. Good luck!

If you would like something close to the Midland, that would be downtown near the new Power & Light District. Check out the President Hotel (Hilton), the Downtown Marriott, the Aladdin Hotel (Holiday Inn), and Hotel Phillips like someone else mentioned. There is also a Comfort Inn (I think that is what it is) that is a little further from the Midland (its around 7th street or so), but might be less expensive than the others. I have stayed at all of the hotels that I listed except for the Comfort Inn and they are all very nice, especially the Marriott and the President. Hotel Phillips and the President would both definitely be within walking distance, and the Aladdin and Marriott are within a decent walking distance but a little further than the other two. Try googling discount codes for the hotels, I have gotten a discount at Hiltons and Doubletrees by doing that.

Thanks for all the great tips. It's nice to at least have a starting place as we look around....

I think the President & the Marriott are also good choices, and almost mentioned them... but they are typically quite a bit more expensive than some of the others mentioned (or at least they were the couple times I've stayed there). I'm not sure I would rec. staying at a Hotel off 7th Street...I'm not familiar with the Comfort Inn there but being from KC (grew up 10 minutes from this area downtown), I'm not sure how safe most individuals would be esp if they arent familiar with the area.

We have stayed at the Drury Inn several times in KC. They're only around $50 a night and they have a great Free breakfast in the morning. :thumbsup2

I don't know how much time you'll have but Marceline, Missouri isn't too far and that's Walt Disney's home town. There are some things there for a Disney fan. We're going tomorrow for the first time. We're supposed to be at WDW world this week so it's my local WDW vacation!
