December Weather (YHZ)

We leave one week today, December 3rd, from Halifax! The weather is not looking good for next weekend and we have a short connection time in Toronto. Can someone reassure me that torrential downpour won't affect planes?! I'm hoping it stays warm and doesn't change to cooler weather!

If you are delayed leaving YHZ and miss your connection, they will likely rebook you on the next flight out from YYZ and give a food voucher. Air Canada has always done this for us when traveling to MIA. What time is your flight out?

I don't think there are any other westjet flights out to Orlando from Toronto that day (Dec 3) :/ our flight is 6:30am, it's saying less rain now but is looking colder. I think I need to stop checking!

Yes, stop checking!!

It would be pretty rare for rain to cause an issue. In YYZ, they do have a flight delay if there are thunderstorms, but that is not likely in Dec. You may have a delay due to de-icing the plane if the temperature drops rapidly. The other potential impact you may have is that the incoming plane to YHZ may not be able to land if the fog is too thick and will divert to another airport (meaning there's no plane to transport you to YYZ).

For now, just breathe, and try not to worry too much about it. Lots of planes fly on time in the rain and snow!

Dec 3rd is looking like just cloudy now; you should be good! Fog is more likely to ground planes then rain. I've flown out of Halifax before in miserable weather with no problems!

No reason to believe you'll have a problem, but if it makes you feel even a little bit better, there are Delta flights from Toronto later that day. WestJet codeshares with Delta, so if you did miss your connection due to a delay they could probably get you on one of those. They all have connections, so you'd end up travelling all day, which I'm sure is not what you had in mind. But as a Plan B, it should at least get you into Orlando that day.

Dec 3 is a long way away for weather here in the GTA. Look the day before and not sooner. Just enjoy the planning it will all happen.
