I know it is early, but I thought I would ask some of you pros, what is the weather usually like in December and what kind of clothes should we take? We have never been there at this time of year. We will be at POR from 12/17 to 12/23! We are so fired up we can't wait, I guess that is why I am doing some planning already. Thanks!

As you can see we are from Maine and last year on December 15, 2004 we bought winter hats while at Epcot! When we were there 15 years before we purchased sweat shirts!

Hope you do not have the "luck" we had.

I have been in July, our next trip is planned for June!

Hi Carrie,

Two-part answer for you:

1) Mid-December average highs are in the low 70s and morning lows are in the low 50s.

2) BUT......December in Orlando is quite unpredictable. You could have a day in the 70s and a couple of days later you wake up and it's near freezing. Then a few days after that it's near 80 in the afternoon.

So you'll need to pack lots of things! Long sleeves, short sleeves, long pants, sweatshirts...you really won't be able to get a handle of the actual forecast for the first part of your trip until a few days before you leave, and even if it's warm at the start, it might turn cold at the end, or vice versa!

Have fun,

Bob

We were inOrlando in December of 2002. We had two beautiful days, shorts and short sleeves, nights jeans and sweat shirts. The other days were rainy, cold, and windy. Due to their humidity, it was very cold, and we're from Wyoming, and used to snow. I happened to buy a lined raincoat from Landsend before we left. I lived in that during the cold rainy days. It kept me dry, warm, and kept the wind from chilling me to the bone. So as the above posters stated, you'll need a variety of clothes for a wide variety of weather conditions.

You'll have to pack a variety of clothes. Winter and summer clothes. You might want to dress in layers.

I've gone the first week of December 3 times now and it was really warm some days and freezing others. Sometimes we never used our winter coats (worn from leaving Boston) and other times we did.

When my girls were smaller and always in strollers, I'd even pack a small blanket for their legs in the stroller.

My best advice is to keep checking the weather right before you leave to see just how many pairs of pants to pack and how many sweatshirts.

:cold: OK so I'm maybe not so used to cold weather ...but come on now! We were there from mid Dec to just after Xmas. I thought my dh was nuts when he bought our DD undersirts from a mail order, but we did indeed layer her , as much as 5 layers for the evening CP. I think it only got above 50 one day , the only time we saw people at Stormalong Bay , who knows maybe they were visiting from Canada! Another couple from Hawaii had to finally run off to KMart to outfit family. It would have cost a fortune in the parks, souveniers are one thing....we wore our Xmas ears every day to keep warm. I shop year round now for Disney Xmas close outs, a little bit at a time. You can always take off layers, but if mom aint happy ,aint no one happy ....and if kids are cold you gotta do what ya gotta do! They said last year was unusual all year, but it was cold in 03 too. :cold:

2003 We go the first week every year. It was 32 degrees in 2003. You have to watch the FL. weather for cold fronts. Last year it wasn't as cold that week. But, we get COLD weather from fronts. So, I say watch the weather for here.

WE go in Jan/Feb so the weather is unpedictable as well. We have a wide variety of clothes with us and we find layering good. Two things that I have found good are the little "stretchy" mitts and "zip off " pants. The mitts take up very little room and are warm. DSs 8 & 10 have pants that zip off into shorts. These are alot better than having to change clothes.
