Spent the day at home catching up on laundry and household chores. However we got the best news ever today. When my dad passed last year my mom lost part of our income which made things manageable but tight. Well a few weeks ago our mortgage guy suggested she apply for the government programs that help reduce the interest rate on your mortgage. Well she was approved yesterday  It cuts our mortgage payment by more than half and will give us more opportunities to save and do more projects to fix up the house.

I've really fallen off this month -- too busy to do much of anything! Since it's not worth the time to go back and figure it all out, I'll just note buy and no buy days from here on out in December.

I'm not counting Christmas gifts in here as it only encourages me to procrastinate on buying them, and that's sure not going to work!

12/1::cool1: Off to a better start this month!
12/2::cool1:
12/3: after school $161 (I thought I had paid for the past two weeks, but I forgot to! Oops! The two half days the boys had this week bumped the total way up too.), $7 books for my students, $6 DS's book order
12/4: Legofest day! I bought tickets last month, so today was $25 on lunch, $12 on dinner (but I'm not counting it as a dinner out as it wasn't the entire family), $35 on gas, $9 on parking, $16 on an extra ticket (long story!).
12/5: $23 on a teacher book, ? on groceries as DH is at the store right now.
12/6: $8 dinner (just two of us), $36 Walmart, and Christmas shopping

12/8::cool1: (Calling it early as I have to finish writing report cards, and that will keep me busy for the rest of the night!)
12/9: $30 dinner, $55 on fish oil for the kids/husband (not as terrible as it sounds, I promise!)
12/10: buy (I fell off track recording when DS got sick)

12/24: buy (Yankee Candle's online clearance -- don't hate me, but I've already started next year's Christmas shopping!)
12/25: buy (Yes, I made Christmas a buy day -- the Lego site had party favors at 50% off and I was afraid not to snatch them up!)

As the year winds down I am really proud of myself for sticking though this thread for a whole year and I know it's cause of all of you, you have become my friends and while I set my goal on doing this for one year, I know I won't be giving it up cause I like all of you too much and would miss yoU in 2011! So thank you to all of you for being very supportive and positive, this thread is such a nice and happy one!

December 1-$0
December 2-$0 Had to go to Michael's and Walmart for Girl Scouts, there was some temptation but I resisited! :yay: I do need to go do some shopping tomorrow though.
December 3-Christmas Shopping $80 for 2 Wiimotes and Epic Mickey and Super Mario Brothers thanks to Slickdeals! Also, DD8 had a GS thing, it was awful (last year was so nice) and miserably cold so DH bribed the kids, well, her, to go out to dinner if we could leave early (bad parents maybe, but he and I are already sick and it was miserable) so she agrees, we get in the car and she picks Outback. So, with tip an insane $60 for dinner out but we rarely do that, so it's OK.
December 4- I decided since we cancelled our Thanksgiving dinner in Disney (due to cost) I wanted to make Thanksgiving dinner. I am having trouble getting into the Christmas spirit and thought that would help. My DH's best friend is getting divorced and didn't have his kids on Thanksgiving, so I made dinner for all of us on Sunday. I spent about $125 on groceries. We had everything though, ham, turkey, salad, rolls, stuffing, brown sugar glazed carrots, green bean casserole, candied yams, baked sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, cream cheese garlic mashed potatoes, cranberries, pie and ice cream. And LOTS of leftovers!!! DD8 had a b-day party for a little boy, we were kind of cheap maybe but gave him 3 Disney Star Wars cars that we got in the girl's Grab Bags in Disney. Was supposed to go to a basketball game with DH but the thought of a 1.5 hour ride each way for that after a long day wasn't fun, so he took a friend. On the way he got a flat. Never made the game and had to get another new tire! UGGG, but that was car repairs we don't reord plus I wasn't with him, don't even know how much it was. He never made the game.
December 5-$0 :yay: Stayed home and cooked and ate! My garbage disposal and dishwaher broke after cooking that BIG meal!!! Thankfully today (2 days later) it is finally fixed (thank goodness DH was able to fix them) and I am finally washing dishes in the kitchen and not the bathroom sink. Eeeewww!!!
December 6- Should have been a $0 day but woke up to a sick kid. Went to the doctor and it was strep. No copay for the appointment or the meds cause of her age. That will end soon. But he did prescribe popcicles, 2 an hour cause she isn't eating or drinking. Went to buy those and decided to get DH boots, we have over a foot and a half of snow in the last 48 hours and he was shoveling in tennis shoes. So that was about $60, pricey popcicles! At the end of last winter I threw out all DH and my boots and coats. They had been though at leat 5 NY winters and we looked pathetic. But now, here we are and no boots or coats. He found a coat at Sam's for $30 and it is super nice, and now I got him the boots, but I wear an 11W shoe (I am 6'1") so far I have not found boots, and coats, forget it...even Walmart ones are $50! So far I haven't bought one though I need to! Took the kittens to the vet. Don't know how much it was, DH said it wasn't worth me stressing over. But they got a clean bill of health and all their baby shots. Christmas shopped for DH at Think Geek, that was about $85! Also ordered 2 gift sets at Walmart, but they were $9 each and have a $10 rebate so spent $18, get back $20, not bad.
December 7- $0 :yay: ETA- A foot and a half of snow, a DH who went into work at 4am, yeah, we stayed in tonight. Made a casserole and called it a $0 day! (From earlier-Well, too early to call. DD8 is still home so that means I am too. I am supposed to be getting lots done this week but with her home I am finding myself to be laying on the couch wathcing a lot of cartoons. (Not complaning.) It is after noon and I am still in my PJs. DH had mentioned going on a date tonight (we have a coupon) but not sure if we will or not, will report later. If we go I will hit Ulta (have some great coupons) to do some Christmas shopping for DD11 and might try to find a coat. BBBbbbrrrrr!!!)
December 8-Target.com 19.43, a new coat for me. Free shipping so I took a gamble, if it doens't fit I will return it, no loss there. Walmart.com 9.22 DS game for the kids for Christmas. Target 101.43 Went for boots, left with some Christmas gofts, but all good finds and deals. Pizza for the kids cause I met DH for dinner. <3 10.26 Our dinner out at Uno 24.61 Didn't need makeup but they were B1G1 plus I had a $5 off coupon so 2 things of mineral makeup at Ulta 9.72 Groceries $38. 3 pairs of boots and a wallet for DH (2 pairs have to go back though) $80.90 Walgreens, a silly splurge but I have wanted that leg lamp from A Christmas Story and decided now was when to buy it cause they were running low $32.39. FINALLY found Advent Calenders for the kids, they were no where to be found this year, 5.13
December 9-Target.com 28.07 for 3 robes (2 for us, one for a gift) Walmart, 2 pairs of boots that actually fit $80.84 Walmart.com $19 for a gift for DH and $6 for 2 pairs of shoes for me YIKES!!!
December 10-$0 So far anyway. Lots of shopping needs to be done so if any deals come up tonight I may change that, but I worked today, substituted for 17 4-year olds and while I wanted to do some tonight I am too tired. Oh, and I made some money today, not much, but about $50.
December 11- Sam's Club, my biggest Budget Buster!!! $303. I bought all my baking supplies and some clothes for the kids and lots of meats to get that freezer refilled. Oh, DD11 went with me cause we went right from her basketball game and she waas starving so she had a hot dog while I shopped. That was about $2 for that with a drink.
December 12- We FINALLY got our Christmas tree. Cause it was late in the season they were on sale. The first one DH cut down was only $32, but it was the weirest thing, it was half a tree. Two trees had grown together and looked like one so we had to find a new one. The next one we found that we liked was $42, but it was cold and we were wet and so we went with it. We then went to Syracuse and spent the day with our friends and their baby. Sooo close to a no spend day, but we desperatly needed to get a tree!!!
December 13-$0 :yay: Calling it early. It is snowin and blowin' outside. I have the tree up with lights and ready to be decorated and a "roast beast" in the oven for dinner, starting to feel the spirit (except for the shopping part) andlooking forward to a nice evening with the family tonight. No one has anywhere they have to be tonight so we can eat, decorate the tree and enjoy the snow fall as we sit by the (fake) fire!
December 14- $40 2 purses off eBay for the kids $80 Walmart for some storm groceries (never shop there but the roads were awful and it is walking distance. I didn't walk, the windchill is below 0, but it's super close so I was barely on the roads.) And some more baking supplies and Hershey's Kisses in a few different flavors for the girls' stockings. All evening activities were cancelled cause of weather so we are in for the night and baking. Just got done making Peppermint Bark, it's cooling now. ETA- Slicke Deals deal, Wii game for $20 and change.
December 15-
Around $60 at Walgreens for Secret Santa gift, gifts for all my scouts and a that "magic ball" for DD11, but it may go back, it looks silly.December 16- $0 :yay: Had my big, annual Girl Scout Christmas party at my house. Spend the day cleaning and preparing.
December 17- Went to help my friend who is the preschool teacher I work with sometimes as it was their Christmas party day. I went very last minute. Then she asked me to go to lunch and since I was going to help her in the afternoon class, I did. $3.50 for more of a snack to hold me over. I wound up working so much they decided to pay me for one session, so that was a nice bonus. Also bought a DSI for DD11 for Christmas, $160. But I got a $30 G/C with it. This weekend is going to be trouble. HAVE to finish the shopping and as yo ucan see by my month, I have done very little of it. :headache:
December 18- Don't even want to look at the receipts. :scared1: Let's say under $400 and leave it at that. I am however, just about done shopping and had not almost at all started as of yesterday. I need to get some stocking stuffers and a small gift for my 2 cousins, haven't seen 1 in 3 years and the other in 6 years and havven't even spoken to them so I have no idea what to get them, I am thinking small G/C. Also DH and I went out to eat but used GC so it was about $10 for that and we got the kids a pizza for $5.40. It was such a fun day, but expensive!!!
December 19-$0 :yay: Kind of disapointed. My DH was able to find 7 games for charity, but we still had 5 coupons so I spent my evening on a mission to find them. Went to 4 stores. I went to Walmart and they were out, so I went to Target and confirmed that yes they would price match. So I went and got the games and decided to get a few groceried to hold us over tomorrow. Get to pay and they said they changed their minds, they have the right to refuse and cause I wanted 5 they wouldn't do it. I was annoyed especailly since I had spent the time on groceries. I left with nothing and went to a different Target and the same thing happened. So I went to Walmart (a different one) and the guy said yes, we have them. I was so excited and we got to where they had been and he said they must have just sold out in the last half hour. :headache: Had I just driven out there in the first place I would have gotten them, but was trying to save gas and stay close to home. The good news is total we have 10 of them, we are giving 5 to Toys for Tots and 5 to our friend's charity. I ahve the coupins still so maybe they will go on sale after Christmas again. There will always be sick kids I'm afriad. Anyway, after baking all day and driving all over town I was too tired to grab a few groceries and figured I'd have more energy tomorrow so in the end, DH spent $2 on tax for 7 games but it was for charity so I am not counting it towards my day.
December 20- $14 Wendy's (DD11 had her chorus concert, last week was band. I was feeling bad cause we always used to take the family out on concert nights for DD16 and didn't on DD11's band concert last week so we decided to take them out yesterday for the chorus concert. Good Girl, she didn't pick anything expensive. She did want Moe's which would have been good, it was Kids Eat Free Night, but we didn't have enough time so we went to Wendy's cause she wanted to try the new sea salt fries. After the concert I got a few staple items and some waterproof gloves for DD8 (they are playing in the snow for gym today and her's were so beat up) at Walmart, $40.
December 21- Went to lunch with a friend. Had not seen her in some time. She is OK, but I remember now why I had distanced myself from her. :rotfl: One side thing about it. She ALWAYS orders like crazy at restaurants and then says should we split the bill. I always ask for seperate checks BUT I FORGOT yesterday. :headache: We went to Olive Garden, I had the soup and salad for $6.95 and a water. She had a meal, a fancy $4 drink and dessert. There was NO WAY I was splitting that bill. Maybe I am petty, but that is so wrong. So I told her I forgot to go to the bank and only had $10 (which was true but I could have used my bankcard, but wasn't offering that.) Again, maybe I am wrong but she does this all the time. She knows I have to be careful cause I am not working, and while eating she was telling me how both she and her DH gotChristmas bonuses and obviously I don't but she asked if DH gets one and I said no, he never has. Like I said, I like her, but there are things that really get under my skin. Anyway... after I did a little shopping. I got a couple stocking stuffers and wrapping supplies for $8. I got a few more stocking stuffers and a new scetch book for DD16's art class for around $20 and I got 2 pairs of PJs and a small token gift for one cousin at Target for around $40. All my receipts are in the van. I will try to update later but wanted to get something down before I forget.
December 22- Spent about $30 on stocking stuffers, still have more to do there. And spent $30 on a DS game for DD16. I had been trying all the time to buy it used butnever found it so I finally gave up and just bought it.

Today we are leaving to go to my grandparents for the long weekend. Won't be recording but will assume each day will be a spend day. today will be gas and dinner on the way. Tomorrow I will finish the stocking stuffers. Christmas will be a no spend day and the day after Christmas we are going to Chuck E Cheese and then gas to come home so I will start back on Monday.

December 23-Spend
December 24-Spend
December 25-$0 :woohoo: Merry Christmas! :santa: Surprisngly it wasn't a No Spend, but it still coun ts. DH got sick and I had to go get him some medicine, but that I don't count so yes a no spend day for my records but did spend a little bit at Walgreen's to make him feel better.
December 26-Spend
December 27- We are home and had not a thing in the house. Somehow I spent a crazy $150 on groceries. AND i still have to get our New Years food! But I had not gotten a lot of things since we got back from Disney, and this was a big stock up for that.
December 28- So close...Spent $7.50 (shipped) for a dress and matching doll dress for DD8's b-day in a couple weeks. She loves dresses, and most of her clothes are hand me downs from her sisters who wore skirts, but rarely dresses. So this was a cheapb-day gift she will love. I saw it on Slickdeals and minutes later they were gone (original price $66) so I am glad I didn't delay.
December 29-$2 movie with DH (we had a GC) He had a soda, I can't get myself to pay those prices, but did sip it a bit, $6 :scared1: Saw Little Fockers :woohoo:. Then went to dinner with a B1G1 coupon, with tip it was $18. Then got a $5 pizza for the girls for dinner.

No spend days 9/15 I don't expect to make 15 but I will be happy with as many as I can this month.

December 7 Took the boys up to the mountains to cut down a Christmas tree. The tree was only $10, but we had to put gas in our big truck so $56 for that. December 28 had some medical expenses today $40, DH changed the oil and did a few small maintenance things to all of our cars so that was $70, $7 to get some new CD-Rs from Office Depot (but I used my $30 gift card so it was actually a great deal), $25 on new shoes, $20 gas
December 29 Was able to take an impromptu shopping trip with my sister this morning. With 4 kids 5 and under that is not something that happens often, so I snapped up the chance. Overall I spent $88 on shopping and lunch.

I have been making a concentrated effort to use up stuff in my pantry and freezer and it shows in my smaller than usual grocery spending. The downside is that I am coming to the end of my stuff so next month I will be back to buying more. Or else I could diet and eat substantially less!:rotfl2:

Dec. 1- face cleanser & lotion

Dec. 2 - tea w/ a friend, groceries, mailed a package

Dec. 3 - 3 things @ grocery store, having mom over for taco soup, watching the Huskers play football, and making our 2 month countdown to DW chain!

Dec. 4 - Groceries, Boy Scout popcorn

Dec. 5 - gifts, coffee, lunch @ sandwich shop while Christmas shopping, & the Eclipse movie for me - from the entertainment fund.

Dec. 6 - ordering my LAST 2 gifts online today, and then I'm officially DONE! So hoping to start (finally!) wracking up some no-buy days! Good luck to everyone, and cut yourselves a little slack, it is the most difficult time of the year, budget-wise.

Dec. 7 - wow - no, no-buy days yet. Had to stop at Dollar General for pop I'm supposed to bring to a Parent-Child center volunteer dinner, & I let dd4 choose a $5 gift for her brother & sister. She has been making tons of gifts (pictures, paper tree ornaments) & using up all of my saved gift bags to wrap them-lol. She was so excited to wrap up gifts she'd picked out for them. Tomorrow- planning on a no-buy, going to my mom's to wrap everything while dd4 is 2 preschool.

Dec. 8 - $0, finally! Got the gifts wrapped, that's a job! Especially the jumping through hoops to hide them in the garage attic w/ pull-down stairs! I would REALLY love to rest this evening, as we finally have no where to go, but I MUST get some laundry done. Something had to slide this week to get the gifts bought & wrapped! "The Middle" is on tonight, though, and it WILL be watched, clean socks or not!

Dec 9 - groc's, and ordered the photo Christmas cards from Shutterfly.

Dec 10 - tickets to the Christmas play that dd11 is in (3 performances and a cast party-busy weekend). DH and ds8 are at a hockey game w/ boy scouts, so I'm sure they are buying something to snack on there.

Dec 11 - lunch from Subway (dh brought it home for the kids, I ate leftovers, it is their special thing to do after basketball practice, so I guess I won't complain), face wipes for dd11 - to remove the stage makeup, our regular cleanser was'nt cutting it.

Dec 12 - $0, knew it would be a long day so put a roast chicken in the crockpot, drive thru would have been tempting after the play cast party and cubscout party!

Dec 13 - just picked up a few groceries. DD11 had ballet this evening, so I went with my "I'm tired & really don't feel like cooking meal" of frozen cheese tortellini (only takes 4 minutes to boil!, w/ a jar of spaghetti sauce, and steamed broccoli). Interestingly, my kids like this meal much better than a lot of the ones that take much longer (like yesterday's roast chicken).

Dec 14 - Walmart run for groceries & baking supplies, drove thru Wendy's for lunch for dd4 & I so we could make a mad dash back for dance & cubscouts. I need to make ahead more freezer meals in Nov. so we have quick options available in the evenings in December. Tomato soup & grilled cheese tonight, yet another slap-dash dinner!

Dec 15 - $0

Dec 16 - Pizza Hut w/ the family & my mom, then drove thru for hot cocoa & drove around looking at the Christmas lights.

Dec 17 - $0, not going anywhere today, hooray!
_________________
Dec 18 - groceries-bought food to make dip for neighborhood party

Dec 19 - lunch at Runza, after the Sunday school Christmas program, bought an ornament for a gift exchange in dd11's class.

Dec 20 - groceries, car wash

Dec 21 - dd4 and I went to Wal Mart with a friend and her dd, and out to lunch, to get party favors, etc for their joint b-day party at our house in Jan. Their b-days are only a day apart, and they would be inviting the same preschoolers, so we decided to have one party. Having a child w/ a b-day right after Christmas is not an ideal thing. DH's 40th b-day is also in Jan.

Dec 22 - $0 -yay, finished helping with the last school party today! Just have a bit of baking to do tomorrow, and lots of laundry and packing, as we are leaving Fri to spend Christmas eve & day w/ family 4 hours away. Dh ate dinner w/ a group of guy friends, so the kids & I had hard boiled eggs, bagels, apples & clementines for dinner, we'll call it a "snacky supper", but I was tempted to drive thru the golden arches, so at least we did'nt do that.

Dec 23 - $0

Dec 24 - lunch @ Wendy's on way to family Christmas (4 hour drive)

Dec 25 - $0

Dec 26 - groceries, went out for pizza to get the restless kids (& mom) out of the house.

Dec 27 - $0

Dec 28 - paper products @ dollar store, milk

Dec 29 - clearance pj's for dd4, swimsuit for me:scared1:

Dec 30 - Groceries, house warming gift for friend

Anyone know why my little dancing guys:cool1: keep vanishing every time I copy & paste my post? Maybe I should ask ds8:rotfl2:, he is more computer literate than I am.

I can't believe it's almost 2011! Kudos to you all who have been keeping track of the budget, some of you have been doing this all year- awesome:thumbsup2! I am excited that I finally made it through a whole month consistently:rotfl:! I'm hoping to go through my budget notebook today to review, and start next year's.

Anyone doing something fabulous for New Years? Usually my brother & his family stay with us the week following Christmas (they both teach), but my SIL had surgery, so I have no idea yet what we're doing, the weather is supposed to turn nasty here tonight, so it may just be my little family eating junk food, playing board games & watching a movie- that sounds pretty good, actually!:)

We are hosting a little get together for DH's family tonight, so we had a few things to buy today. We are also hosting dinner for my family Saturday, but since stores will be closed we might have to go out again tomorrow to get more stuff (depending how much DH's brothers and cousins eat tonight...).

Plus, we got two new game consoles this past week (one we bought ourselves, not knowing my mom would give us a different one for Christmas), so we are like kids in a candy store and want to buy all the new games/accessories. Oops. :rotfl:

December 6 Was in town today, so I ran a few errands. $20 medical, $16 lunch, $30 misc. Target, $27 Joann's.
December 7 Took the boys up to the mountains to cut down a Christmas tree. The tree was only $10, but we had to put gas in our big truck so $56 for that. And we had to get lights because in the past we've set up artifical pre-lit trees, so $10 there. Finally, I ordered my Christmas cards, $5 for 50 photo cards.
December 8$10 extension cord, $23 Christmas gifts for our dogs, $23 ornament painting, $59 groceries for a cookie exchange and holiday party we're throwing, $30 gas, $30 dinner and a movie for DH and I.

December 18 :cool1: $0!
December 19$25 gas, $39 build a bear--DS got a gift card for his bday and I couldn't make his brother watch and not get one.
December 20 :cool1: $0!
December 21$35 gas, $45 lunch with my MIL- we had been planning on cheap taco bell lunch after snow shoeing, but the roads into the snow shoe area got closed so we went to a nicer lunch instead.
December 22$100 Target gifts for friends, $30 Dinner with good friends and looking at house lights
December 23$138 groceries, $11 Home Depot
December 24$12 last minute groceries
December 25 :cool1: $0!
December 26 :cool1: $0!
December 27$50 gas. We were going to go to lunch with my brother and his wife who are in from out of town, but we decided to get together and eat up the leftovers instead-so even though it was a spend day, I feel good about saving some money!
December 30 :cool1: $0!
December 31 :cool1: $0!

I made it!!! I think it was my first ever made it all year New Years resolution! I recorded every penny I spent for the whole year and participated in no buy all year! Didn't make my goal every month, but overall am really proud of it. Tomorrow DH and I are going to look over all what I spent, that should be eye opening!
Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe New years and may 2011 bring you much joy and happiness.
Tonight we are sticking with tradition. We will have cheese fondue for dinner, play all the new games the kids got for Christmas and just hang out. Later we will have chocolate fondue for dessert and virgin strawberry daquiris and at midnight sparkling grape juice. Tomorrow DH works (one of his busiest days) so the girls and I might go out, we will see, then when he gets home we will have our last big dessert splurge of the holidays by sampling all the treats we collected at WS in EPCOT. We picked out one thing from each country. Have a great evening whatever your plans are!

December 30- $2 Redbox Sam's $201 (our groceries have really gone up at all the stores, a lot in the last couple weeks. It's scary!) $40ish in gas. $40Target (some Christmas items, 2 stockings for the new kitties, 2 mugs and a canister with Mickey and Minnie on it) and $70 at Wegman's for pretty much just fruit and sparkling grape juice for our New Years. I almost said forget it when I saw how prices had gone up for produce, but every year for new eyars we do fondue for dinner and chocolate fondue for dessert and it's tradition so I bought the very expensive and out of season fruits to dip and didn't give it another thought.
December 31-$0 :woohoo:DH is at work, DD16 has a friend over and DD8 and DD11 are watching a movie. I jsut got done making a veggie tray for snacking and sut up all the fruit for tonight. Now I am just relazing a bit. Not going anywhere. Made 10 for the month, not too bad.

No spend days 10/15 Didn't expect to make 15 but I will am happy with 10.
